Liora's POV

"Mum?” Ronan said looking between me and Finn.

“Wha… What do you mean, mum?" Ronan asked again. His deep voice was heard, and the sound sent a cold shiver straight down my back.

Finn finally noticed the big man standing by the bench. He stopped panting, and blinked hard against the bright sun, and looked straight up. Their eyes met and he broke eye contact.

Liora's POV "Mum?” Ronan said looking between me and Finn.“Wha… What do you mean, mum?" Ronan asked again. His deep voice was heard, and the sound sent a cold shiver straight down my back.Finn finally noticed the big man standing by the bench. He stopped panting, and blinked hard against the bright sun, and looked straight up. Their eyes met and he broke eye contact.I watched Ronan's face, and I saw the shock still on his face. All his proud Alpha energy vanished in a second. He stared at Finn’s face, unable to blink, he looked at like he was studying him, staring intently just to make sure he wasn't seeing things. I knew what was going through his face by the look on his face. I had that look the moment I first held Finn too, Finn was the exact replica of Ronan in every way. Those were the exact same green eyes Ronan grew up seeing in the mirror. The jaw, the shape of the nose, it looked exactly like his own face from his childhood pictures. His mother back in Voss had always ta

Liora's POV Ronan didn't even look at Renn. He just kept his eyes on my face, his chest rising and falling quickly under his dusty jacket"Yes, Renn. The same Ronan," I said flatly, keeping my eyes locked on the man in front of me.Renn's jaw dropped slightly, then tightened slowly in anger, his teeth tightening against each other. He looked back at Ronan, then at me. His mouth opened, but he couldn't find any words. Renn knew Ronan, though this was the first time he saw him face to face. In fact, everyone in our house knew that name. They knew he was the reason I packed up my life and left everything behind.Renn knew first hand how broken I was when he found me and he knew Ronan was responsible for it. I knew he was as surprised as I was, and he was getting angry too. "Why are you here, Ronan?" I asked again.I forced my face to stay completely blank, feigning being unfazed by his sudden presence. I didn't want him to see how much my hands were shaking. Inside my chest, a sudden

Liora's POV "The food here never fails," Celestine said, wiping his mouth with a paper towel. He dropped the paper onto his empty plate and leaned back against the booth with a satisfied sigh. "It has that same perfect effect every single time." "It's all thanks to Lena," I said, stirring my coffee with a small spoon. "She is the real engine in the kitchen. She always makes sure the breakfast orders come out right." Renn joined us at the table, sliding into the bench next to Celestine. He smelled faintly of soap and clean cloth. The morning rush hour was finally over, leaving the dining room of Fantasy Foods quiet and calm. Just a few customers were around at this time. The rich smell of grilled onions and warm maple syrup was thick in the air, making the space feel incredibly comfortable. "The delivery guy dropped off the extra crates of flour early today," Renn said, looking over at me. "I already stacked them in the back storeroom so Lena wouldn't have to carry them." "Th

"Run!" Serena screamed, reaching out to grab her arm.But the strange wolf was already onto them. He lunged forward, his heavy paws hitting the floor with a loud thud.Isolde gasped and stepped back into some dry twigs, but she was too slow. The wolf bared his long teeth and swung a heavy paw, his claws tearing into her thick cloak. The impact sent Isolde flying sideways. She took a hard hit to her shoulder and fell straight to the dirt floor, sliding across the ground."Get away from her!" Serena shouted. Baring her teeth, with a slight transformation to her wolf self.Serena immediately charged at the wolf, throwing her whole weight into his side to force him away from the fallen Luna. The grey wolf snorted, his hot breath visible in the chilly morning air as he turned on her. He was large, strong, and clearly knew how to fight. He didn't lose his balance at all. Instead, he twisted and snapped his jaws inches away from Serena’s face.On the ground, Isolde let out a low groan, curli

"I didn't know Liora was Ronan's mate," Serena whispered. "Oh my god. So that was why she left after he chose Isolde."Jax did not say a word, he just stood near his desk with his arms crossed, watching her from the shadows. The room was quiet except for the sound of the burning wood.Serena felt a crushing feeling of guilt. No wonder Liora had been so broken. No wonder she had packed her small bag and walked out of the pack without back. Serena bit her lip until she tasted blood. She remembered sitting on the kitchen island back then, smirking while saying mean things to Liora. The memories felt like a slap in the face. She had been a terrible sister all along. She looked up at Jax, her eyes filling with hot tears. "You know... I thought... I thought she was just being dramatic. Or trying to get attention because she was adopted and always felt like an outsider.""You have always been the dramatic one, Serena," Jax cut her off, his voice flat. "Liora wasn't."Serena gave him a ‘reall

"Is this the paperwork for the southern trade routes, or are we still looking at old map data?" Ronan asked. He rested his large hands flat against the polished wood of the conference table. They were having a one to one meeting, concerning the alliance Ronan asked for. They were checking out the Lockwood's Pack trade routes and how Voss would come in if they eventually go ahead with the alliance."It's the new data," Damien replied. Before Ronan could answer, a soft knock came from the heavy double doors. The handle turned, and a senior pack warrior stepped inside. The man walked quietly across the stone floor, the scent of fresh pine and outdoor sweat coming off his jacket. He held out a thick white folder."The background check you asked for, Alpha," the warrior whispered, bowing his head."Leave it," Damien said, waving his hand. The warrior set the folder on the table beside Damien and walked out, the door shutting behind him with a clean click.Damien pulled the file closer, fli

The howls finally faded as the rain continued, leaving a silence that felt even more dangerous. It was as if the forest was holding its breath, waiting for the next move. I sat by the dying fire, staring into the dark. Even though the others were asleep, the image of those black wolves on the ridge wouldn't leave me. The morning after Kira called me out, the air felt different, I felt lighter. The secret of my pregnancy had been a heavy wall between us, but now that it was down, I felt like I could finally breathe. I woke up to the smell of woodsmoke and the bitter, comforting scent of yesterday’s tea. Usually

I didn't stop walking until the sun started to peak over the trees. My legs were heavy and my feet were sore, but I kept moving. I kept looking back, half-expecting to see a patrol or hear the sound of a familiar howl, but there was nothing. Just the wind. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Ronan’s
