Settling Nothing

Ty found Rose in the kitchen unpacking a box frantically. “Hey, you’re here with me. Talk to me.” He came to stand directly behind her and took a bag of utensils from her and dropped them on the counter. Then wrapped her in his arms.

“I know he hates me. I always thought he hated me because I was what made my mother leave. Now, you tell me he had her killed because I was born a girl? Am I understanding this right or am I wrong?”

“I don’t know Rose. Not for sure, but if he’s trying to profit your indenture or kill you off, then I’ll gladly take you off his hands. Gods, I don’t know a worse monster. I can’t even think of how a monster like him comes into being. Your mother, from what I remember, was sweet and kind. I remember her sugar cookies were the best.”
