"Why are we here?" Tiffany asks me. "I told you, it's my mom's death anniversary," I reply as we walk towards her stone tablet. "I mean, why did you bring ME here," she emphasized. "I didn't want to come alone, I haven't visited in a long time," I lied, I visited her a few months ago. That should count as a long time, right? Tiffany didn't day anything, we stop in front of my mom's stone tablet. "BRENDA HARRIS, A LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER" Being a loving wife costs her her life. "If I had known we were coming here, I would have brought flowers, and you didn't even bother to bring one either," Tiffany tells me. "My mom hates flowers," I say, and she fell silent again. "How did she die?" She asks after a while. "Cancer, blood cancer," I reply, my voice a little hoarse. She already suffered enough, and God just had to shorten her life with cancer, but I honestly don't know if staying alive would be worse than dying when it comes to her. "Sorry," Tiffany sympathizes. "It's alright, let's go," I say and turn away. "Don't you want some alone time with her? We were barely here," Tiffany asked me as she followed behind me. "Nahh, I'm good," I say, and she sighs. "Did you talk to Mrs Willow?" I ask, changing the topic, and I could feel her stiffened behind me. "Yeah... im definitely not making the front page this week," Tiffany answered, The strain in her voice was evident. "You should have," I say, because I know how much effort she put into writing that article. She even fake dated me for it. Her name should be on the front page. It must really hurt. "It's not the first time I'm losing to Larry, Not really bothered," she shrugged. I pause and turn towards her. "If you weren't bothered, you wouldn't have run away and isolated yourself. All that effort you put only to amount to nothing must really hurt. It should hurt. It's okay to feel sad, Tiffany," I tell her. "I'm not sad," Tiffany stubbornly replied. "Yes, you are, and once you accept that, you'll feel much better," I say, and she chuckled dryly. "I did everything, I wrote exactly what people wanted, just like Mrs Willow said, so why? I just don't understand," Tiffany pressed her lips together, clearly suppressing her tears. I move towards her and engulf her into a hug. She stiffens in my arms, but at least she doesn't pull away. "It's okay," I tap her back slightly. Tiffany buried her face on my shoulder. _ I came back to the house after I dropped Tiffany at the apartment she shared with Ava. This was the first and only time I've seen her cry even though I didn't see her tears falling. Her eyes were pretty red by the time she pulled out of the hug. I wasn't just comforting her with that hug, I was also comforting myself. I really needed someone today, and maybe I was a little selfish for bringing her to see my mom with me when I know she already has her shit to deal with but I just didn't want to visit her today alone like always. "I'm ordering Chinese food for dinner. Do you want some?" Aaron asked me after entering my room uninvited. "Not interested," I say to him. "Oh, C'mon, you don't have to starve yourself just because coach is kicking you off the team," He said, and I glared at him. "What? Everyone in the team knows you're getting removed after this season," "Get out of my room." I snapped at him, and he raised his hands in surrender. "I would send your Chinese food to you when it's delivered," Aaron informs and walks out. Just when I thought he was gone, he put his head through the door. "If you play well enough this season, then couch won't kick you out," I picked up a pillow from the bed and threw it in his direction, but unfortunately, he was faster, and it hit the closed door. "Dickhead," I mutter under my breath. Aaron just don't know when to stop and that's one of his biggest problems. His idea reminded me of Tiffany's idea, she said the exact same thing too. I pick up my phone and message Tiffany but it seems she's already asleep. I wonder why she didn't make the front page, Though I didn't read her article, I know she did a wonderful job. I slump on the bed with a sigh, closing my eyes briefly. Tiffany's image forms in my head, and I quickly open my eyes. Hell no. My phone vibrated beside me, and I rushed to it. A little part of me hoped Tiffany had replied to my message. My face fell when I saw it wasn't Tiffany but my dad. Bryce: Today is your mother's anniversary. Did you go see her? Why did he care all of a sudden? He never asked me this before because he had never once visited her since she passed. He barely spent 30 minutes with me or her during her funeral. My eyes slowly turned red at the thought, and I squeezed my phone in frustration. He ruined her life till she passed, and now he wants to do the same to me, I won’t let him. Never. I blocked him immediately. Something should have done a long time ago Better late than never. I stood up from the bed and walked to the bathroom to have a cold shower, I heard the door to my room open. Probably Aaron came to drop off the Chinese food, I'm just glad I just don't have to see his stupid face.Justin."Why are we here?" TiffanyI could feel my chest rise and fall as I stared into his emerald eyes. My brain was a tangled mess.I should definitely get off him right now, but I absolutely couldn't bring myself to stand up.My body isn't listening to me anymore, and God, I need it to listen to me right now!His eyes, the way he looks at me... Justin's face draw is nearer, and my heart threatens to jump out of my rib cage.NO! I scream in my head and quickly stand up from Justin's legs, making sure to put a significant distance between us.My cheeks heat up significantly as I try to calm my racing heart.Justin's mouth moved like he was about to say something. "Don't say anything that would make this already awkward situation more awkward," I cut him off before he could speak. I pick up my bag and notes and quickly move to the far end of the hall.I needed to make sure I was far away from Justin.Thankful
Tiffany.Ava has been looking at me and Justin from across the table for over 20 minutes since we walked into the restaurant."Can you please stop staring?" I snap at her already fed up with her eyes."The way Ava looks at us tells me you barely dated anyone," Justin turns to me sipping from his pineapple juice."She never dated anyone since I've known her. period!" Ava replies, and I stretch my hands towards her in an effort to strangle her till she stops breathing I'm gonna kill her!"Really? Oh, please don't tell me I'm your first boyfriend," Justin is literally enjoying this. The smirk on his face was damn evident "You're not even my boyfriend right now," I reply, eating from the fries in front of me."Eyyyyyy, careful, the walls have ears," Justin reprimanded, but I ignored him."I can definitely see the lovely chemistry between you two," Ava smiles at us."Chemistry or hate? G
Justin Tiffany always finds a way to strike where it hurts. “What? I didn’t say anything wrong,” she defends herself. “Being under my father and doing everything he says is never better than ice hockey. You may hate ice hockey, but it’s my life,” I snap at her. She presses her lips together and walks away from me. I don’t go after her. I need to wait for Coach. I want to know what my dad said to him. Grant tells me he saw Bryce talking to Coach, and I need to know what he says to him. I bring out my phone from my pocket to call Coach, but then I see him coming. Yeah... I lied about my phone dying. I just didn't want to talk to anyone, and if I told Tiffany that, she’s definitely not going to like it. “Harris, why are you in front of me?” Coach asks me as he walks towards me before walking 6 me and into the building, I follow behind him. “I heard you spoke to my father,” I start, getting straight to the point. “Oh, yes. He wants you out of the team,” Coach says,
Tiffany. My eyes fling open sharply, my chest rises, and falls rapidly as I blink. My hand goes to my chest, trying to steady my drumming heart.Sweat coats my face and other parts of my body.A nightmare.No... memories.I sit up slowly, my hand still on my chest as I reach for my phone under the pillow.I turn it on to see if it's already 9am."Shit!" I exclaim and hurry out of the bed, bolting to the bathroom.I don't spend up to 20 minutes in the bathroom when I come out to get dressed really fast.I stare at a sleeping Ava, and I smile, I wish I get to sleep in like this.Wearing something comfortable, I put all the necessities in my bag and hurry out of the apartment.I check the time and it is almost 10 am.Mr. Herald is going to kill me._I feel the eyes on me as I walk into the classroom and make my way to my seat.Mr Herald stops talking when I walk in, and I know I am in for a lot today. He will lecture me like his life depends on it.He continues after I've taken my seat,
TiffanyThe man... who I suppose to be Mr. Harris walks up to us and stands in front of Justin, who glares at his father.Well... Mr. Harris doesn't seem particularly pleased to see him either. Now I am curious... what exactly is going on between Justin and his father."Oh, I see you got yourself a girlfriend," Mr. Harris says."Let's go, Tiffany," Justin ignores him and holds my hand, pulling me away."Aren't you going to visit your mother today?" Mr. Harris calls behind us, and Justin halts."None of your business... you never cared anyway," Justin fires and continues walking."Didn't he come to campus just to see you? Leaving him there would be considered rude," I tell him."He didn't come here to see me... he is probably here for coach," Justin replies."Why would he want to meet your coach?" I ask, stopping him and pulling my hand from his grip.Justin runs his hand through his hair and sighs at me while I stare at him, waiting for an answer. "He doesn't want me playing hockey,"
