Chapter 5

Penulis: A Peach
The moment I spoke, Victor and Ursula's disappointment only deepened.

Henry and Clara both lifted their chins, smug smiles playing on their lips.

"Penelope, I understand why you're so stubborn about this. The Wright family's fortune is unmatched, after all.

"But have you forgotten that Mr. Wright has been a powerhouse in the business world for years? Do you really think he wouldn't have considered a DNA test?

"It's exactly because they've already done one that Mr. Wright was able to confirm Clara is their daughter."

I saw the mockery shining in Henry's eyes. Just as I was about to retort, the memory of that lake trip three years ago crashed into my mind.

When my phone slipped beneath the water, Henry had immediately jumped in to grab it. Panicking, I dove in after him.

We were later taken to the hospital for examinations. In a haze, I sensed them yanking handfuls of my hair and collecting more than a dozen blood samples.

[Damn, those bastards covered all their tracks perfectly!

  • The Running Commentary That Fueled My Comeback   Chapter 9

"This kick is for all the times you tried to trick me into going to a hotel!"Over the five years we'd been together, Henry had tried more than once to get me to go with him to a hotel. But with my demanding work schedule, I had always refused.Reflecting on it, I realized he wasn't merely interested in my birthmark—he was already preparing for Plan B.If Clara ever managed to break free from his grasp, he could easily manipulate me into claiming my identity as the Wright family's daughter. It was clear he wouldn't rest until he got exactly what he wanted. After the banquet ended, I filled Victor and Ursula in on everything that had happened in the lounge. As Victor had someone track Henry's whereabouts, Ursula gripped my hand tightly."Don't be scared, darling. We won't believe those rumors. We trust only in what you tell us!"Suddenly, the car screeched to a halt. The driver panicked, hurriedly unbuckling his seatbelt."Mr. Wright… I think we've hit a man… and there's also

After hanging a family portrait on the wall, I nodded with satisfaction. There was no longer any sign of Clara anywhere. On the day of the banquet, I spotted Henry in the lounge. In just a month, the once clean-cut college student had become a disheveled mess. His eyes were dull and lifeless. He looked noticeably thinner. His cheekbones protruded sharply, and his hair was messy and unkempt. But when he saw me, a flicker of hope sparked in his eyes."Penelope, I've missed you so much."I stepped back cautiously, realizing he was still wearing the same clothes from a month ago."So, you just got out of detention, huh?"He nodded enthusiastically and took a step forward, as if waiting for me to say something encouraging."Yes! From the moment I got out, all I could think about was seeing you."I missed you every single second while I was there. All I wanted was to be close to you and hold you…"[What a hypocrite. How dare he even say he misses her!][He almost ruined her appe

The whole day had passed, yet that bucket of soup remained steaming hot.I couldn't bear to imagine the pain if it had all been poured over me.Ursula gripped my hand tightly, as if afraid I might disappear again.Victor sat in the front passenger seat. He let out a heavy sigh before beginning to explain what happened after I was kidnapped. It turned out the person who took me was no stranger—it was my nanny. At first, she intended to hold me for ransom. But when she ran into a police patrol on the road, she panicked and sold me instead.Victor and Ursula searched tirelessly across the country to track down the nanny. But by the time they finally found her, dementia had claimed her mind. She couldn't remember who she'd sold me to.All they could do was keep looking. For more than ten years, they never gave up hope of finding me.They scoured countless orphanages, but there were just too many spread out across the country. With my last name and birthday changed, I had become

Victor's face tightened with fury. He gestured for the bodyguards to restrain Henry and Clara. In a rush of panic, Clara kicked Henry sharply in the leg."You're completely useless! Didn't you claim to know everything about her body?" she snapped.Flustered, Henry stammered, "Penelope is always caught up in her work! She won't even let me be intimate with her!"I clutched Ursula's hand, my heart racing with fear. This reunion felt like it could slip away at any second."Mom, I thought I'd never have the chance to see you and Dad again."I raised my head."We're doing a DNA test on the spot!"Victor paid a hefty sum for an expedited test. Clara was forced to provide a blood sample for analysis.None of us left the conference room while we waited for the results.Ursula gripped my hand, casting a scornful look at Clara. It felt like she already knew I was her real daughter. The door opened shortly after, and a staff member handed Victor the results. He glanced at them briefl

"Penelope, how could you do this to me?"Hearing Clara's sobs, Ursula turned around. "Clara, do you know her?""Mom, she's a friend from the orphanage. Henry, her, and I grew up together."She was only repeating what I told her. I'm the one who shared those stories."Penelope, I trusted you like a sister when I shared those memories. How could you turn around and use them to lie to my parents?"Henry stepped forward, his expression darkening like a brewing storm."Penelope, Clara has tolerated you over and over. Why can't you just leave her alone?"Victor was taken aback. "Wait, did she bully Clara?""Yes, Mr. Wright. Clara never said anything because she has a kind heart. She didn't want to cause you any trouble."But personally, I've had it with Penelope's toxic and jealous behavior!"She has been envious of Clara since we were kids. At the orphanage, she would steal Clara's toys. Once we started school, she even tore up her homework."With time, her jealousy worsened, fue
