“So, he's coming today? Wow, that's nice. At least I will be delighted to see him,” I replied, excited about the news. "I just hope you don't get tempted by his looks," Jessica teased, which made me scoff. "I'm married, Jessica. Why should I do that?" I replied, narrowing my eyes with a huff. I shifted my gaze to the paperwork I was working on while Jessica kept speaking. I suddenly noticed that one of the documents was missing on my office desk and I can't finish the paperwork I was working on without it. While thinking on where I had left it, I suddenly remembered that I last saw it inside my car. I let out a groan of frustration, touching my face as I pushed into my chair with a deep sigh. Thinking about the stress in which I will use to go get the document from my car got my body numb and it feels so exhausting. "You ain't even listening to what I'm saying," Jessica cut in, seeing how I was losing focus, muttering words of complaint. "Don't you have anything to do? I think the talk for today is over," I said, sighing as I stood up from my chair. Reaching for the door, I turned and looked at Jessica. "I want to get something from my car real quick," I added, walking out the door. I got on the elevator, then descended the building. I walked to where I had parked my car and looking for where I had last seen the document–my eyes caught up to it, and luckily, it was standing just in front of me at the side of my car seat. I picked it up, then went back into the building where I worked at a fast pace, my heels clicking against the ground as I hastily walked forward. While walking forward, trying to reach the elevator, my head eventually went down, gripping the document on my hands as I stared at it. Without looking forward to where I was going, I ran into a man, his puffed chest pushing me against the ground, and the document's sheets I was holding scattered across the flat tiles. I raised my head to apologize because it was totally my fault, but when my eyes met the person I had run into, my body froze. "Good... good... good day, sir," I stuttered, then quickly looked away. I crouched on the ground, gently picking up the files that had scattered. When I was done, I stood up, looking at him head-on. His physique was hellishly stunning. His broad chest was humongous. His blunt brown hair was so striking and captivating. I stared at him for a few seconds while he stared back at me without saying a word. His blue ocean eyes were like different stars combined at once. I was lost in my thoughts. I couldn't move or look away. "Sorry, sir, for the inconvenience," a voice sounded, snapping me out of my thoughts. I shuddered slightly, shoving my hair to the side with my hand as I gently looked away. "Laura, did you apologize?" the voice sounded again. Looking back to see who had spoken, it was my boss, Rowan—the person higher than me, the one I submit to when signing out from work. He came closer, looking at me, then shifted his gaze to the person I had been staring at. With a soft, calm voice, he said to the young, handsome man, "Please come with me, sir. I have already prepared the documents for you to sign." "Is this lady part of the workers here?" the young man asked, shooting his gaze at me, his eyes scanning me like a prey. "Yes, sir, she is," Rowan replied, grinning nervously as if he was becoming frightened. "She doesn't have manners, and next time she repeats the same thing she did today, I promise to dismiss her—and dismiss you too. I don't accommodate mannerless people in my company," the man, whom I had found handsome, spoke in an angry tone that made me flinch in disbelief. After saying this, he walked away with Rowan. I was stunned because I wasn't expecting that from the young, handsome man. He was so rude, and besides the way he stared at me the previous time, it's obvious that he got lost in thought as well. While staring confusedly at him while he walked away, Jessica's hand slid over my shoulders, making me snap as I quickly turned. "Ooh, God! Why would you scare me that way?" I retorted holding my chest. "He's the one—the CEO of this company I've been telling you about," Jessica muttard, which made me jab a bit, "Are you for real?," I replied, surprisingly with a pale look. It was at this point that I realized he was actually the one—the one people had been talking about. Thinking deeply, his appearance was exactly like the image Jessica had shown me—his blunt brown hair and everything else was just coming into sense to me now. Or rather, let me say, he was more perfect than I had anticipated because damn, he got me lost at some point. And the way he spoke to me—it was obvious that what people were saying about his character was true. "Why didn't you apologize when you ran into him? What were you so focused and stuck about, that you didn't notice someone standing in front of you?" Jessica said, raising her voice at me as she narrowed her eyes with a sigh. "How did you expect me to notice someone was in front of me when my head is down? I'm very sure he must have seen me coming. But couldn't speak out on time, or he must have done it intentionally,” I replied, gasping. "Ooh, you speak so confidently. It looks like you don't like your job anymore. I'm surprised he didn't fire you right away. He must have been in a good mood," Jessica responded, which made me raise a brow.Laura's POV "Ain't you the one who was complaining of pain in your ankle and waist, claiming you couldn't walk by yourself?" I asked. Jessica went to her mirror, then sat, looking for some cosmetics to dress her face."Yes, of course, I was the one complaining of all those things," she replied, then scoffed, shifting her gaze to me as she added, "Don't you believe in miracles?""I believe in miracles, but not in your case, you actually blindfolded me," I replied, my voice slightly raised, then sighed."Well, I want to be blunt to you now. I wasn't having any pain in my leg that could make walking difficult for me," Jessica finally confessed."Hold a minute, so all this while you could walk properly but decided to stress me?" I replied with disbelief.Jessica began laughing, and I was already getting infuriated. She had played me, played me in a way I didn't see coming. She just wanted me to spend time with her. She could have just said it bluntly to me before now, though I wouldn't
Laura's POV “No, it's nothing, can you give me some minutes? I want to reply to a text message.” I replied to Jessica, pushing a smile off my lips. I wasn't intend to let her know that it was Caspian who had sent me the message I was about to reply. I'm trying to keep the conversation secret. “What’s wrong with Caspian? He didn’t even bother asking me the reasons why I hadn't come home early today, nor showing any care to asked if something had happened, all he could do was tell me some bullshit talk of him having good news for me. I just hope this news is worth calming me down for the anger boiling inside of me,” I pondered in thought, I felt like exploding. As thoughts of Caspian nonchalant attitude surged more into me, I couldn't control my Dismay and before I knew it, my face began fuming, it was starting to become obvious that I was angry and as soon as I remember I wasn't alone, and my fuming face could attract questions from Jessica which I was trying my possible best to avo
Laura's POV Jessica’s hands pushed forward toward my cheek, then she raised my head upwards over her sharp stare, “Everything will be fine, everyone makes mistakes, and I promise you that this isn’t a problem to get yourself disturbed about. You are still married to Caspian; nothing had changed that, so let life keep pushing.”“Yeah, I know, and thanks for the advice,” I replied to Jessica, my head down.“I’m happy you have forgiven me, Laura. At least we could bring back old memories together,” Jessica said, smiling.“Yeah, sure, the old time memories will always ignite, and our friendship will never fail,” I replied to Jessica, and then we hugged each other.Within some hours, it was already night, and Jessica was still feeling some pain in her leg. Me leaving her now would be inhumane, though she had insisted for me to return home, but I insisted not to.“laura, you have to go back home. Won’t your husband be disturbed?” Jessica said, her hands gripping mine.“I don’t think he wo
Laura's POV I picked up the knife, then began sliding on the vegetables, completely puzzled on what to do next.“I think the best way of doing this is to try and follow the steps by step process of making the food online,” I thought to myself, sighing in frustration, then went back into the living room and picked up my phone. Jessica was just seated, staring at the television, while she ate some snacks"Do you want to make some calls?" Jessica asked after seeing me picking my phone from my bag."No, I just want to play some music while cooking, it's fun to listen to music while cooking rubbish," I replied, sneering. Jessica scoffed at my replies then continued what she was watching.I went back to the kitchen, and went through the internet, and just immediately, I saw the video I was looking for. I reacted excitedly."Yes, that's it, let's see how I would make the impossible possible."I picked up my knife, following all the process on the video, and within some minutes, I was done w
Laura's POV We both walked out of the hospital, and so I waved a taxi, the taxi stopped and then we got inside. The taxi man drove off and after ten to six minutes we reached Jessica's house. I assisted Jessica down from the car because she complained of her having pain in her knees, probably due to the way she fell to the ground when the car brushed her to the side."Sorry, Jessica, we are already home, just a few steps and we would be inside," I encouraged with a grin, making her endure the pain. my hands gripping Jessica's waist as I gently walked her into her house.I sat Jessica on the chair, a soft sofa having a stylish weaving at the side of it's handle."Would you like to drink any water?" I asked, trying to know if Jessica needed anything. I was ready to be of help to her to the fullest. "No, I don't. I don't feel like taking any water for now," Jessica replied, pushing a smile off her lips."What I need now is food," she added."Food... Okay, I will go get you some food i
Laura's POV "Ooh sorry for squeezing you hard, i was lost in surprise that's why,” I apologized immediately as my hands let go of Michaela arms.“Please can you explain what happened,” I demanded, my fingers intertwined with my other fingers as I became more curious, my face fearful. “Wow, your strength is astonishing, you wanted squeezing me like a meatball,” Michaela said with a nervous laugh, and just as she was about to continue her words without telling me what I had demanded, trying to waste my time, because of this I snapped. “Can you please get to the point and talk already?”I could see how Michaela flinched by the impact of my voice, it was as if she wanted to levitate in fear.“Yes, yes,” Michaela quickly replied then continued after a deep breath. “It all happened in a flash, I was there when the accident happened, it was immediately you left that a bus ran into her.”My eyes widen in disbelief, I could remember when I ghosted Jessica when she tried apologizing to me.
