Chapter 10 The Hidden Truth

last update 최신 업데이트: 2025-06-16 12:55:13

The new morning began with a heavy heart. I had decided that I would try to make Phupha understand the lingering past. Learning about Nong Pete and the tragedy of the Worathana family changed my perception of Phupha. He wasn't just a ruthless CEO seeking revenge; he was also someone who carried immense pain and loss.

Today, Phupha didn't leave for work early as usual. He was sitting in the living room, reading a newspaper, his gaze distant as he stared out the window.

"Mr. Phupha?" I approached him slowly, my voice so soft it was barely audible.

He turned to look at me, his impassive face making it impossible to read his thoughts. "What is it?"

"I... can I talk to you?" I mustered the courage to speak.

He nodded slightly, remaining still, not inviting me to sit. I stood there, feeling nervous.

"I... I've read about your family... and about Nong Pete," I began slowly. "I'm sorry for what happened."

Phupha's eyes changed subtly. The coldness vanished for a moment, replaced by an unexplainable emotion, akin to deeply hidden pain.

"It's good that you know," he said calmly, yet with a certain firmness. "So, what now?"

"I want to explain about that day," I tried to keep my voice from trembling. "I didn't intend to hurt Nong Pete or scare him. I truly tried to help him, but I was young then, and so shocked I didn't know what to do."

Phupha was silent for a moment. He stood up and walked to the window, turning his back to me.

"You don't need to explain anything," he said flatly. "What's done is done."

"But I truly didn't mean to," I tried to explain again. "I understand you must be very angry and hate me, but please believe me."

Phupha turned back to face me, his face devoid of a smile. His sharp eyes stared at me coldly. "Do you think your explanation will make everything better, Linin?"

His words felt like a knife cutting through my heart. I knew it was hard to make him believe, and hard to erase the deep-rooted misunderstanding he had held for so long.

"I just... don't want you to misunderstand me," I replied faintly.

"That's not your only mistake, Linin," Phupha said, his voice sending a chill down my spine. "Do you remember what else you did to me?"

I instantly lowered my gaze. Images from four years ago flooded back. I remembered leaving him without a word, vanishing from his life with a great secret... the secret of Nong Time.

Silence enveloped the room again. Guilt and shame overwhelmed me until I could barely stand.

"I... I'm sorry," I managed to say with difficulty. "I accept all responsibility."

Phupha sighed softly before walking back to sit on the sofa. He didn't say anything further, but his silence made me feel even more uncomfortable than any words could have.

I knew that our current relationship was far more complicated than I had imagined. It wasn't just a contract marriage to repay a debt, but also pain and vengeance from the past that still haunted us both.

I slowly walked out of the living room and headed to my own room. I looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were filled with worry and sorrow.

'What should I do next?' I asked myself. I didn't know if I could fix the mistakes of the past, and I didn't know if I could make Phupha understand and forgive me.

That night, I couldn't sleep again. Thoughts of Phupha, the past I tried to forget, and the hidden truth swirled in my head all night long.

That night, I couldn't sleep at all. Phupha's words, "I want to know everything about that woman... and what happened four years ago," still echoed in my ears. I knew he couldn't be talking about any other woman but me.Suspicion and fear overwhelmed me, making it hard to breathe. I knew I couldn't keep Nong Time's secret forever, but I wasn't ready to face a truth that could destroy everything I had tried to protect for four years. The next morning, I woke up feeling exhausted from lack of sleep. I tried to act as normal as possible, even though my heart burned with worry.I came down to the dining room. Phupha was already sitting there, as usual, his expression so unreadable that I couldn't guess what he was thinking."I have meetings all day today," he said without looking up. "You can go wherever you want, but you need to be back home before 6 PM, as before."I nodded, not saying anything further. After breakfast, I immediately rushed to visit my father at my rental room. The safe

After the encounter with Phupha at the hospital, my heart wouldn't stop pounding. I knew that my lie about visiting a friend probably didn't make him any more suspicious, but I still worried he might have noticed something or found a flaw in my story.I walked into Nong Time's recovery room. He was fast asleep on the small bed, his face a little pale, but his high fever was gone. I gently held my son's small hand, a wave of love and concern washing over me."Nong Time's not too bad, don't worry," Kaew said softly. She must have seen my worried expression."I feel so conflicted, Kaew," I replied faintly. "I don't want Nong Time to go through something like this. If Phupha knew the truth...""Don't worry too much," Kaew squeezed my hand tightly. "I'll help you protect Nong Time. We absolutely won't let anyone find out about this."Kaew's words brought me some comfort. At least I still had a friend by my side, always ready to help.I stayed and took care of Nong Time until his condition

Weeks passed. Life in Phupha's mansion remained constant. Surprisingly, I had adjusted to the loneliness and being by myself. Visiting my father at the hospital and talking to Nong Time on the phone were daily routines that kept my heart strong. My father's condition improved so much that the doctor allowed him to recover at home. I decided to bring him back to our old rental room to avoid burdening anyone and for his own comfort."Linin... you don't have to tire yourself out so much," my father told me gently as I arranged his medication. "I don't want to be a burden to you.""What are you saying, Father!" I feigned a stern voice. "I can take care of you perfectly well. You're the one who needs to rest more."Despite the exhaustion from balancing caring for my father and maintaining my role as a nominal wife at Phupha's mansion, I felt happy every time I was near my father. At least I was still fulfilling my duty as a good daughter. One day, I received a call from Kaew, my best frien

After that day when I tried to explain the past to Phupha, but to no avail, the guilt and frustration only gnawed at me more. I knew that making him understand and forgive me would be incredibly difficult.Life in Phupha's mansion continued in silence. Our relationship remained strictly according to the heartless contract. He was like the owner of the house, and I was merely a resident sheltering under his roof. No words were exchanged beyond necessity, not even glances that lasted too long.I spent most of my time in the library, seeking refuge from the loneliness and discomfort that permeated the house. Books became my best friends at this time. They transported me to another world for a while, a world where I didn't have to think about my son's secret, my father's recovery, or Phupha.I still visited my father at the hospital every day. His condition was steadily improving, so much so that the doctor said he might be able to return home soon. That was one of the few pieces of good

After that night, when I saw the photo album and vaguely pieced together the past, I felt like a heavy stone was weighing on my heart constantly. The newly discovered truth kept me awake for several nights. I tried to recall every detail of the event that day, but I was still unsure if I understood everything correctly.Doubt gnawed at my mind, making me want to know more about Phupha and Nong Pete's story. I wanted to know what exactly made Phupha so angry with me, beyond just our personal history. The next day, I remained in the quiet mansion. I decided to try and find information about Phupha and his family. I walked to the library again and searched for books about the business of the 'Worathana' family, which was Phupha's surname.I spent almost the entire day in the library, scanning through various books and documents related to the Worathana family, hoping to find some clue that would unlock the mystery in my mind. Finally, my eyes caught an old newspaper article collected in
