The Saintess Chooses a Different Alpha

Chapter 1

Penulis: Crystal K
My prophecies made my mate, Alpha Kane, a king. And on the day of his coronation, he murdered me. All because his first love, Scarlett, was exiled and died after trying to poison me.

The world shattered as the silver blade slid into my heart.

The last thing I saw was Kane’s triumphant, hateful stare.

I gasped, my eyes flying open. I was breathing hard.

No fatal wound in my chest. No stench of blood in my nose, only the pine scent of the sacred fire on the Moonlight Altar.

This wasn't the silence of the grave. It was the low, ritualistic chant of the packs.

"Saintess Mira, please choose your mate."

The Elder's aged voice echoed the one from that fateful night, eight years ago.

My hands trembled as I looked down at them. They were flawless.

Eighteen years old. The Choosing Ceremony.

I… was reborn.

Memories flooded back, a torrent of pain and hatred that swallowed me whole.

The Great War between the North and South had broken out. My gift of prophecy had pushed me into the role of Saintess, the key to the North’s future.

The Elders demanded I choose a mate from the best Alphas of the great packs.

He would be my partner, and with my prophecies, he would lead the North to victory.

And I, of all people, had chosen Kane.

All because he appeared like a god, saving me from a rogue beast when I was just a girl.

I was so naive. I thought the strange pull between us was fate.

I gave him everything: my loyalty, my body, and my prophetic power, which drained my own wolf spirit with every use.

But I was blind to the desire and love in his eyes when he looked at Scarlett, his childhood Beta.

After Kane and I bonded, Scarlett's jealousy grew like a venomous snake.

She humiliated me, shamed me, and ultimately, tried to poison me.

When the Elders exiled her for her crimes and she was torn apart by the Bloodmoon Pack, Kane just held me and whispered, "She brought it on herself. It has nothing to do with you."

I believed him.

I kept giving him prophecies, burning my spirit to help him win battle after battle.

Until he finally stood at the peak of power, crowned King of the North.

Then, in my happiest moment, he shoved that silver blade into my heart.

"If it weren't for you, Scarlett never would have gone mad with jealousy! She never would have died!" His voice was colder than the blade. "You have the gift of prophecy, so why didn't you save her? You're useless to me now. Go die."

The searing pain of a torn heart, the shiver of a soul betrayed—it was all still so fresh.

"Saintess, please place a drop of your blood on the token of your chosen."

The Elder held out a silver needle.

I pulled myself from the memories, my gaze sweeping over the daggers on the altar. Each one represented the strongest Alphas of the North.

Kane's dagger, inlaid with gold and gems, glittered in the firelight. As fake and flashy as he was.

My eyes skipped right over it, landing on an overlooked spot in the far corner.

It was a dagger carved from obsidian.

Its hilt was rough, unadorned, radiating a raw, primal wildness.

It belonged to Oliver, the Alpha of the Shadowwood.

A cursed Alpha.

Legend said his bloodline was tainted by dark magic.

Any mate who bonded with him would have their gifts and wolf spirit unconsciously drained, until nothing was left but an empty shell.

To choose him was to choose a slower, more painful death.

In my last life, I wouldn't have gone near that ominous dagger.

But now, a cold smile touched my lips.

With my back to the Elders, I pricked my finger without a second thought.

A single, crimson drop of blood fell, landing squarely on the night-black obsidian hilt.

A ghostly purple light pulsed from the dagger, instantly absorbing my blood.

The choice was made.

By tradition, the final result would be revealed by the power of the Moon Goddess herself at the bonding ceremony, in three days, on the full moon.

The ceremony ended. As I turned to leave, Kane blocked my path on the trail to the dens.

"Mira. We need to talk." His voice dripped with a smug confidence, certain I would fall at his feet.

"We have nothing to talk about," I said flatly, trying to walk around him.

He grabbed my arm, his grip so tight I thought he'd break the bone.

He slammed me against a tree, his hot breath on my face. "Listen, I know you chose me. Who else in the entire North could you possibly choose? But you better remember this..."

I stared at him, my expression cold. He looked like a pathetic clown.

"Even after we bond, my heart will always belong to Scarlett." Kane's eyes were ice, full of warning. "So get rid of any stupid ideas. Don't even think about taking what's hers. And don't you dare pull your 'Saintess' rank on my mate. Got it?"

That was strange.

I didn't remember him saying any of this before my choice in my past life.

But I pushed the confusion aside.

"I understand," I nodded obediently. "What you're worried about will never happen."

My calm composure made him frown. A flicker of confusion crossed his face. "You're... different tonight."

"Am I?" I gave a slight smile. "Maybe I've just grown up. Seen things more clearly."

He studied me for a moment, then finally let go. "Just remember your place, Mira. Don't cause trouble for me."

"Of course."

I turned and walked away, leaving him and his ridiculous ego behind me.

In the moonlight, I could barely contain my glee.

Oh, Kane. You'll never guess. I've already cut you out of my life.

In three days, in front of every pack, I'm going to personally smash your arrogant pride to pieces.

This time, without my prophecies to guide you, let's see how you survive the war.

"If you won't be mine willingly..." A desperate madness flashed in Kane's eyes. "Then I'll take you by force."He began to shift.Bones cracked and popped. Muscles swelled. Silver fur sprouted from his skin.In seconds, Kane had transformed into a massive wolf.He opened his jaws, revealing a set of deadly fangs.A forced marking. It was the most brutal, humiliating ritual in wolf culture. An omega who was forcibly marked would become an Alpha's slave, their will utterly shattered."No!" I scrambled backward, but my back hit the hard cave wall.Kane stalked toward me, a low growl rumbling in his chest. His fangs were inches from my neck.In that split second—BOOM!The cave wall exploded inward.A black figure shot through the dust and rock like a bolt of lightning, its massive claws slamming into Kane's side.Oliver! The two giant wolves tore at each other in the cramped cave.Kane was bigger, but Oliver was faster.More importantly, black magical energy swirled around him."ROAR!" Shadows swarmed from all sides. Before I could react, I was surrounded by three elite warriors.Their movements were fast and precise. This was a planned ambush."Don't hurt her," the lead warrior ordered. "The Alpha's orders."A cloth was pressed over my mouth and nose. The pungent smell of herbs made my head spin.Right before I blacked out, I saw Kane step out of the shadows, a triumphant glint in his eyes. When I woke up, I was trapped deep inside a cave.Glowing crystals embedded in the stone walls provided a dim light.I was surrounded by solid rock. There was no escape."You're awake."Kane sat at the cave's entrance, two guards standing behind him."Let me out." I struggled to my feet."No." Kane shook his head. "We need to have a serious talk."He waved the guards away, then slowly walked toward me."Mira, I love you."I thought I'd misheard him."What?""To prove my love for you," he said, his eyes burning with a terrifying sincerity, "I executed Scarlett."My blood ran cold.

Kane’s face darkened instantly."You think rejecting me solves anything?" He stepped closer, crowding me. "Mira, you're so naive.""Get away from me." I tried to move around him.He grabbed my wrist. "Hear me out.""Let go.""I can give you a chance," Kane's voice dropped low. "I'll mark you as my official mate, but Scarlett can be my battle partner. The three of us…"I yanked my hand free with all my strength."You're insane.""It's happened before in pack history!" Kane explained, his voice urgent. "A powerful Alpha can have multiple mates. You handle the prophecies, she handles the fighting, we could—""I said, get lost."My voice was ice.Kane was stunned by the pure disgust in my eyes.He had never seen me look at him like that."You'll regret this," he snarled. "You're nothing without me.""We'll see about that."I turned and walked away, leaving him to roar his fury into the night. Two weeks later, an Elder found me.His face was etched with exhaustion and despair."Saintess, th

The three days of waiting were calmer than I had felt in years. No Kane pestering me, no Scarlett provoking me. I could finally think about the future. But the peace was shattered on the second night.I heard a familiar argument coming from the edge of the pack's territory."Why do you still care what she chose?!" Scarlett's voice was shrill with jealousy. "She's just a weak, useless omega!""Shut up," Kane's voice was tired and impatient. "You don't understand."I crept closer, hiding behind a large tree.Under the moonlight, Kane and Scarlett stood by a small stream. Scarlett's eyes were red and swollen; she had clearly been crying."I don't understand?" Scarlett shrieked. "I don't understand why you would humiliate yourself like that? Getting rejected in front of the entire pack?""I wasn't rejected!" Kane snarled, whirling on her. "The little fool has no idea what she's doing!""Then why don't you just give up on her?" Scarlett grabbed his arm. "Kane, we could leave. We could go so

I sliced the blade across my palm, letting my blood drip onto the ancient totem stone. My blood ran deep red. Oliver's shimmered with a faint, silver light—the mark of his witch bloodline. The two drops of blood merged on the stone's surface, erupting in a blinding light."Will you regret this?" Oliver's voice was quiet, but I could hear the uncertainty in it.I shook my head, my voice firm. "Never."The magic of the ritual took hold.I felt my soul being pulled by an invisible force, weaving itself together with another.I reached into the depths of his spirit. It was a raging tempest of raw power, so violent that any soul who strayed too close would be instantly shredded. This was the truth of the "curse."It wasn't a malicious devouring. It was that a normal wolf spirit couldn't possibly withstand the sheer magnitude of his power—a power inherited from a witch bloodline. But as my wolf spirit touched that tempest, my own gift of prophecy began to flow.Instead of being shredded, my

The Elder's voice boomed like thunder, crashing down on the stunned silence."The Moon Goddess has witnessed! The destined mate chosen by Saintess Mira is—from the Shadowwood, Alpha Oliver!” Kane’s face went white. His mouth hung open, but no sound came out.He was frozen to the spot, as if he’d been struck by lightning. The entire pack erupted in a deafening roar of confusion."What?! Oliver? She chose the cursed one!""Is she insane? That monster will drain her soul and leave her a walking corpse!""She's committing suicide! The Saintess is gambling with the future of the entire North!"Scarlett just stared at me, her eyes wide with shock, as if I were a complete stranger.Ignoring the gasps, I walked slowly to the center of the altar, my voice clear and firm for all to hear."Yes. I choose Oliver."Kane finally snapped out of his shock. His face was pale, the veins in his temples throbbing."You're insane!" he roared, storming up to me like a cornered animal.
