I couldn’t help looking at Torren, my chest tight with a tiny, stupid hope. Maybe this time he’d choose Niko.
Torren’s eyes lingered on Niko’s pale face. His lips moved like he wanted to say something.
Saela’s hand slipped into his, and just like that, his gaze shifted away.
“Asher needs me more right now,” he said.
The second those words left his mouth, I felt Niko shiver against me. I wrapped my arms around him, holding him as close as I could.
“Right.” I nearly forced the word out. Nyx was howling with rage inside me, but I made myself stay calm. Niko needed me now more than anything. I walked away without another word. In the ward, I watched my boy’s tiny frame as he lay there, struggling, brave. “Mum?” Niko whispered. “Does Daddy have another son? Is Asher Daddy’s too?” My lips trembled. I looked down in shame. If only I hadn’t chased Torren back then... If only I hadn’t believed in fate and fated mates. If only we weren’t mated at all.“No matter what, Niko, mommy and daddy both love you. He’ll come for your shift, okay?”
I opened the mindlink again. “Are you still at the hospital? I have something to say.” His answer came fast. “Observation room with Saela and Asher. Don’t come.” I severed the link. “Daddy will be right here with you, okay?” I kissed Niko’s forehead. I turned to a nurse packing some supplies. “Please… look after my son while I’m gone.” She nodded. “Of course, Luna.” “Also, have someone bring warm clothes and wolf’s bane. I’ll need it when I return.” She gave another nod. I paused at the door, looked back once more. “I’ll be back before he even notices I’m gone.” On getting to the observation room, I found Saela and Torren seated there, together. Of course, they really fit the description of power couples. “I’d like to speak with you. Alone,” I said. Torren didn’t even look surprised. “What part of ‘don’t come’ did you not understand? And where’s Niko? You shouldn’t have dragged him here just to get my attention.”I gently wiped the cold sweat from Niko’s forehead, trying to hide the tremble in my hands.
Eryn"I'm never going to do anything right in your sight, right?" I asked, staring at my cracked screen on the wet pavement. The image, the only proof I had was gone, Just like that. Just like every damn thing I ever tried to fix."You're never going to see reason and you're always going to pick her side!" My voice cracked as I yelled, barely audible over the sound of the rain that had started hitting the ground. When did it even start raining? I looked up at the sky, the cloud had darkened. I have no idea how I'd get home today. The wind slapped against my cheeks, mixing with the tears I didn't even bother to hide anymore. He swallowed hard as his jaw tightened."Just stop it. You're the one hanging around with men like it's some kind of trophy. I'm only asking you to stop dragging Saela into everything you do." I blinked, slowly, the corner of my lips twisting into a smile.“Dragging her?” My voice came out so low I wasn’t sure he heard me. My fingers curled into fists."You’re s
ERYN“Vale.” I whispered and looked down at his hand placement. He quickly detached and just stared at Saela. How did he know I was here? Question for another time.“Wow, Eryn. You're quite the lady. In just a space of 2-3 weeks, you've been flaunting men around? What happened to the last one?” Saela taunted and Vale looked back at me.Damn! He better not think I'm promiscuous with the way this bitch is making it seem.“Are you okay?” He queried and I nodded, arranging my hair.He looked back at the crowd, the murmurs had reduced significantly and they were all just looking now.“I'm fine.” I adjusted my dress again.“Don't ignore me,” Saela snapped and turned to Vale, “Do you even know who she is? The Alpha's ex, that's who she is. She must be playing you as well. She's known for that.”“And she was stalking me, I'm not sure you want to get involved with someone like that.” She continued. How do I explain to Dr Vale that I was only stalking Saela because of a hunch I had?At least I
ERYN I felt anger coursing through my veins as I got out my phone from my purse and took a few pictures.Oh, the disappointment on Torren's face when he sees this would be a satisfying thing to watch. After a few minutes of their little consensual escapade, she got into a car and left while the man got into another car as well.I was still scared of Ubers, sure. But I'm definitely not passing this up.Something was up and I needed to find out what.I immediately booked an Uber and after about 3 minutes of waiting, the Uber pulled up.Before getting in, I took a picture of the license plate and then made sure that the car was exactly what was described on the app. Also, I confirmed the driver's picture. One can't be too careful these days, it has happened once, I wouldn't be too sloppy to let it happen again.I got into the car and he sped off.“See that car? Follow it.” I ordered and he looked confused at first.“That wasn't…the desti—”“I'll pay you extra for your troubles but do no
ERYN“Doctor Vale?” I called as we both walked back to his office. I was still slightly embarrassed, I had just spilled coffee all over my employer and now he was walking around, with a coffee stained white shirt.Laneview. Saela.I pushed the thoughts to the back of my head but they kept bugging.“Earlier, you asked if I was okay right?” We were almost at his office. He stopped in his tracks and swivelled to meet my eyes. After a few seconds of staring, he just shrugged.“Yes, I did ask. Why?” I gulped, not knowing if the path I was threading was going to yield any good but I continued anyway.“Why? You usually don't ask.” He had pushed the office door open now and pulled open his drawer, picking out a new shirt. “It takes a blind person not to know. You're clearly not okay. Your work has also been lagging behind today.” He commented, taking out the shirt from its packaging. Why does he have another crisp ironed looking shirt in the office? Is it normal for ladies to spill coffee o
TORREN“Why are you crying?” I asked, staring at his teary face, while he tried to climb out of my lap, “Why are you crying instead of answering? Is there something I should know?” I snapped.I was losing my cool and the tears were not doing a good job in making me hold off my anger.“Asher, answer me.” I urged.Hurried footsteps came rushing down the steps as Asher's cries grew louder and hysterical as Saela approached.“Asher.” I called out as she ran down and grabbed him into her arms.“Torren, what are you doing?” She shot me an accusing glance and I gritted my teeth, shoving my hands into my pockets.“Saela…i—”“You've never hurt Asher before and now you're making him cry? What could he possibly have done?” She asked. Her jaw was clenched and she was glaring at me, like I had done the unthinkable.I played with my fingers inside of my pocket trying to keep my cool.“Exactly. When have I ever hurt him? I was just asking him a couple of questions.” I lowered my voice as Saela used
TORRENTorren Sven. That was me but I was more sure than ever that it just couldn't be me. Unless I had started signing off rerouting contracts in my sleep, which I am not aware of.I bit my lips as I tried to understand what was going on.Eryn didn't believe me. How could she not see that I was innocent in all of this and this was just a constant web trying to spin me into it?Way to go.I ran a hand through my hair, sighing in frustration as I turned on my laptop.Eryn wouldn't listen to reason and honestly, figuring this whole thing out was more important right now.Else I would have chased her out and tried to get her to understand. She might think me evil but I am definitely not ‘that’ evil. What does she take me for?“Why are you standing there, gawking at me? Leave.” I snapped at Kael and he raised his brows before nodding. He shut the door with a slight thud after he left and I groaned.I navigated to my browser immediately, my hands flying over the keys as I searched for that
