Chapter 2

Author: Gilded Riches
From the day I became Luna of the Silvercrest pack, I understood I'd have to learn to endure my Alpha's fickle heart.

As a powerful Alpha, Ethan always attracted other she-wolves—some Omegas seeking status through him, others just assistants looking for a night of pleasure.

I once confronted him the year Joy was born after discovering his flirtation with another Omega.

That was the first time I saw the wolf in his eyes. His cold amber irises flashed with a dangerous glint.

"Victoria Moon, don't forget that I gave you everything you have. I can take it all back anytime," he warned.

I thought of Joy. As the Alpha's daughter, she was destined to inherit the bloodline.

In the end, I chose to be silent.

That storm passed without even stirring a ripple in our household.

After that, I learned to endure.

No matter how many she-wolves Ethan involved himself with, he always came back to the pack—to his home.

Sometimes I consoled myself, thinking maybe the tenderness I saw in his eyes when he looked at me was real.

After all, I was his Luna, his mate. Surely, I held a different place in his heart.

Ethan always kept pack business and his dalliances strictly separate.

At home, I played the proper Luna, pretending not to know what happened beyond these walls.

His she-wolves stayed outside, indulging with him in lavish nightlife.

But then Sophia appeared, shattering that delicate balance.

Shockingly, Ethan allowed her to cross the invisible line between us that we had both silently agreed never to breach.

After putting Joy to bed, I returned to the master bedroom.

Ethan stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at something on his phone, his lips curled into a faint smile.

"You've worked hard. Get some rest."

His voice was unusually gentle, gentler than I'd ever heard him use with any pack member.

Instantly, Sophia's stunning face from earlier that day flashed through my mind.

I walked past him into the bathroom. As I was rinsing off, a heated body suddenly pressed against mine.

There was heat, muscle, and a presence.

In my ear, he murmured deeply, "Did you miss me these past few days?"

I gently dodged his touch, wrapping a towel around myself. "Sorry, I'm a little tired today."

Just as I turned, he grabbed my wrist tightly.

His gaze locked onto me, while one brow arched arrogantly. "My wolf is already restless. Are you sure you want to deny your Alpha?"

It was his usual way of seduction—one that assumed no matter my response, I'd eventually give in.

When I pushed him away a second time, the amusement in his eyes deepened.

"Are you jealous? Nothing's going on between me and her. She just reminds me of a younger you… If it bothers you, I'll keep my distance from her from now on."

He spoke as he kissed right where he'd once marked me on my neck. His lips were burning, but all I felt was ice.

"Ethan, please don't touch me."

Amid the steam, his expression darkened.

"Victoria," he growled. "Don't test me while I'm still willing to coax you."

As I stood frozen, I felt my blood turn to ice.

When he saw that I still wouldn't give in, he picked me up and threw me roughly onto the bed. In the dark, he gritted out, "If you want peace in this house, stop being difficult."

I curled into myself, stiff and trembling as tears silently fell.

The next morning, Joy excitedly ran to kiss my cheek. "Mom, Dad said he's taking me to the amusement park!"

I was surprised. Ethan always hated crowded places, let alone going somewhere like that just for Joy.

While leaning against the doorway, he smiled gently at his daughter. "Ready, my little princess?"

Not long after they left, I went to the pack's medical wing. Last night's intense session had left me feeling unwell.

When the healer told me I was four weeks with pup, I stood frozen in shock.

"The pregnancy isn't stable yet. You'll need to avoid intense activity and intimacy with the Alpha for the first trimester," the healer said calmly.

"If you don't plan to keep the pup, it's best to decide soon. The longer you wait, the more harm it'll do to your body."

To have a little angel come to me should've been a happy surprise. And yet, all I felt was overwhelming dread.

I clutched the report tightly as I sat in my car, staring into space for a long time.

As I requested, Sheldon bought a villa with a large garden and plenty of sunlight on the outskirts of the pack's territory.I often sat on the terrace basking in the sun, watching Joy play on the lawn with her new friends. As my belly grew bigger by the day, so did Sophia's.Her social media remained filled with beautiful, curated moments. But I knew the truth.Even though Sheldon had arranged the best medical team for her, it couldn't spare her from the pain of being with pup.Her body was swollen. Her morning sickness was severe. Not only that, her system was rejecting the pregnancy so violently that it nearly took her life. After all, it's hard for an Omega to bear the bloodline of an Alpha.Julianna mentioned all this in a phone call once, unintentionally revealing her frustration as she continued trying to convince me to reconcile with Ethan.I looked toward Joy, laughing in the distance, and pretended not to hear. As time went by, Julianna stopped bringing it up.My s

With his eyes on me, Ethan loosened his tie somewhat aggressively as he said, "Sophia's leaving the pack tomorrow. Are you satisfied now?"My hand holding the cup paused for a moment before I understood what he meant. "I don't have the power to make that happen.""Don't you?" he sneered. "Were you not the one who went to my parents to tell them things and got them to kick her out?"There was malice in his amber eyes, but also a flicker of smugness. It passed so quickly that I wondered if I had imagined it from exhaustion.I was too mentally drained to try to interpret his emotions anymore. "I'm sorry."His tone softened unexpectedly. "We'll go to the cemetery tomorrow to sign the paperwork. You pick the location. Let me know once you've decided."Stunned, I looked up at him with my emerald eyes."Is it really worth getting this worked up over?" he asked. So, he thought this was just me being emotional.I didn't bother arguing. I simply nodded and uttered, "Okay."He gave me a

The cemetery staff told me that moving the grave would require signatures from both parties.I knew very well that Ethan would never sign it.With that, I could only wait until the mate bond was officially broken. But the Silver family would never agree to that. It didn't matter to them whether Ethan loved me or I was happy. As long as I remained the best candidate to maintain the pack's superficial peace, they would oppose breaking the bond.I leaned against the steering wheel, hand gently resting on my still-flat belly.A thought slowly surfaced in my mind.Suddenly, a knock sounded on the car window.Ethan stood there, frowning, his amber eyes fixed sharply on the hand I had laid over my abdomen."Are you feeling sick?" he slowly asked.I sat up calmly, hands on the wheel. As I stepped on the gas, he jumped back.I heard Sophia shout, "Victoria! Are you insane?"I only drove away as though I hadn't heard her.On the way home, I got a call from Ethan's father, Sheldon Si

Ethan left with a glum look on his face that night. The next morning, when Sophia opened the door, I had expected to see Ethan with her.But to my surprise, she didn't even know he was planning to move in.Her face lit up with joy at first. But then, her eyes were filled with tears."Victoria, even though Ethan and I are in love, I've always stayed in my place. I won't be the victim of one of your upper-class open relationships—"I calmly cut her off. "You were there when I asked to break the mate bond."She suddenly looked guilty. "Well… I wasn't completely sure at the time…""If you don't want it, go deal with your Ethan. Don't pretend to be righteous in front of me."With that, I turned and walked away.On the drive home, the sky turned gray and heavy before rain began to fall. The moment the raindrops hit the windshield, I found myself aching for my mother.I turned the car around and drove toward the werewolf cemetery in the pack.Guided by memory, I found her grave, o

I couldn't even feel the pain when I grabbed that silver dagger with my bare hands. All I wanted was to make sure Joy was safe.Joy was sobbing uncontrollably until, finally, Ethan came running from the distance.Blood gushed from my wound. As a wave of weakness took over me, I let go of the knife at last.We only found out when we were in the medical room that the cut had gone so deep it had reached the bone.Ethan stood silently at the door for a long time.Sophia, eyes red-rimmed and swollen, came to apologize. "Victoria, I'm so sorry. I don't know that man… I was just too scared…"I used every last ounce of strength to slap her across the face.Ethan, who had remained silent all this time, suddenly seemed enraged. He rushed over and shielded her behind him."Victoria! You're the one who failed to protect Joy. What right do you have to take it out on someone else?"I looked straight into his cold eyes, refusing to back down. "Ethan, I'm begging you. You can lose your mind

A flicker of shock flashed in Ethan's amber eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a dangerous golden gleam."Are you threatening me with the mate bond?"His voice was low, laced with the natural dominance of an Alpha."Victoria." He unleashed his full Alpha presence. "I remember telling you that I hate presumptuous people the most. And even more, I hate those who challenge the authority of an Alpha."Under the weight of his pressure, I stood firm. My voice trembled but remained resolute. "I want to break the mate bond. That's my right."His fury filled the air like a storm cloud.Above me, I heard his cold, amused chuckle before he said, "Fine. Let's go to the werewolf court right now."Ethan dropped all pack affairs and personally escorted me to the court. When I received the draft of the mate bond breakage papers, he left me with just one sentence."Wait a month before finalizing it.
