MasukKatherine Lark's POV:
Everyone continued their celebration. No one even bothered to see how I would feel after they learned that I'll become their chosen sacrifice. But I guess it was already expected. For them, I was just a nuisance. I turned around and returned to my old house before shutting the door. Then I moved. I packed my clothes that looked practical and easy to layer, my boots and a knife I had hidden for years. I also packed some dried food wrapped tightly in a cloth. I also stepped outside to gather some medicinal herbs that I could bring with me. I was not expecting any kindness from the Darkblood Pack once I arrived there so I had to fend for myself. But when I bent near the edge of the path to reach for a cluster of herbs, I suddenly heard voices. "...the seal should hold until Katherine reaches the Darkblood Pack." "Sshh! I told you to shut your mouth!" My breath caught. It was the elders and they were talking about me. Again. Slowly, I ducked behind the wooden wall of the house and pressed myself into the shadows. "But the seal?" "It's fine." another one replied. "The incident that happened to her parents should never repeat in this pack!" My fingers curled around the herbs in my hand. It was the first time I had ever heard them speak about my parents like this. Whenever I asked them before, they said my parents were just another couple in the pack. But now, they were talking about them like a mistake that needed to be buried. "That girl was never meant to awaken here." a third voice grimly said. "If the seal we put weakens before she leaves..." "It won't." the first elder sharply cut in. "Not unless fate interferes." A heavy silence followed it. "And if it does?" someone asked. "Then we will all push the blame on her. Enough of this! The discussion should ends here." I felt something coiling tightly in my chest after that. I was about to leave but a twig snapped when I took a step back. Then the voices stopped. "Who's there?!" one of the elders barked. To avoid suspicion, I quickly stepped out from behind the wall and forced my shoulders to relax and lifted the bundle of herbs in my hands. "I'm sorry, elders." I said. "I was just gathering medicinal herbs to bring with me." Their sharp gazes pinned me in place. "How long have you been standing there?" another one demanded. "Only just now." I replied and tilted my head. "I didn't mean to interrupt. Were you discussing something important?" "That is none of your concern." one elder coldly said. "Mind your own duties!" And without another word, they turned and walked away. I remained where I was while clutching the herbs in my hand. My frown deepened while the weight of their words settled in my chest. I returned to my house and finished packing my things in silence. My mind kept returning to the conversation I had overheard just now. But if I ask, I knew no one in this pack would answer me. If I wanted the truth, I would have to find it on my own. Maybe once I reached Darkblood territory, I could try to find ways to see the truth myself. When the early dawn came, the moon was still lingering in the sky. I stepped past the pack borders without looking back. No one came to see me off. They simply accepted the fact that I would leave the pack to keep them safe and peaceful. The forest grew quiet when I walked deeper inside of it. After almost three hours, I finally reached the edge of Darkblood territory. But the moment I stepped over the borderline, a sudden pain struck my chest. It violently exploded in my chest and stealing the breath from my lungs. I fell to my knees and started gasping for air. My fingers were digging into the dirt and I felt a sting in my eyes. Soon, a fire burned through my veins. There was an invisible thread that was pulling me. And soon, a powerful howl rang out in the distance. It was responding to something I had not intended to send. Despite being wolf-less, I still had an instinctive understanding of what it was. It was a mate bond. "No..." I whispered when my body began to shake. I pressed my hand harder against my chest and pushed the feeling down. I couldn't understand why this was happening to me. Maybe my doubts that I am not wolf-less were true all along. But still, I refused the pull with everything I had. I would not belong to another cage. I would not play the Moon Goddess's cruel game anymore. "Stop it." I said through gritted teeth. "I refuse to answer it!" The howl came again. It was closer this time but it still couldn't reach me. The bond protested and it was sending pain through my chest. But I endured it. For the first time, the moon did not feel like a blessing. It felt like a challenge meant to break me. I forced myself to stand up even though my legs shook. My chest rose and fell but my eyes stayed on the path ahead. My body resisted but I kept my mind stayed firm. I looked up at the moon that was still watching me from above. I felt like it was judging me and daring me to continue rejecting the fate it had given to me. So I looked at it without any fear. "I swore I would not be taken without a fight." I took a deep breath and pulled my cloak tighter as I took a shaky step toward the Darkblood territory. I wouldn't run. But whatever fate the moon had planned for me, I would face it head-on and refuse to be bound by it.Katherine Lark's POV:After that, the days that followed it turned into a strange routine. Alpha Harrison did not bring up what I overheard that day. He didn't bring up our bond either. He simply gave me space and I tacitly took it.True to his words, I was allowed to leave my room now. I could continue joining the others for meals, walking around the courtyard and watching the warriors train from a distance. No one stopped me, but no one crowded me either.I also stayed quiet. I did not give my opinion or ask too many questions. I kept my head low and made sure I was never in anyone's way. For now, it was safer to observe my surroundings than to speak and become their center of attention. The Darkblood Pack was too different from the Silvermoon Pack. They were stronger and more organized. Their movements were sharp and controlled especially during training. Everyone also knew their role and they all carried it well.It was also clear to me that power ruled them. They were strict but
Katherine Lark's POV:I could still hear the other elders arguing with Alpha Harrison."But this is for the future of the Darkblood Pack!" another elder argued."No." Alpha Harrison replied. "You are all just being fussy without a reason."His voice was firm and left no room for argument. Soon, the doors closed and I finally let out a slow breath I didn't realize I was holding. I knew Alpha Harrison had noticed me but he didn't say anything about it.Once the room was empty, I stepped back and returned to the courtyard. So they wanted Alpha Harrison married and the elders already had someone in mind, huh? I guess it was no longer a surprise since an Alpha really needs a Luna to help him lead a pack. But for some reason, that thought stung a little. I closed my eyes and shook my head. "It's just the bond reacting. It means nothing at all." I whispered to myself.I took another deep breath and walked back to the courtyard. By the time I arrived, the food was already served. The long
Katherine Lark's POV:The throbbing pain in my chest woke me up before the sunrise did.At first, it was just a dull ache under my ribs. Then it slowly spread through my body like a slow fire. I closed my eyes and put my hand on my chest. Then I took a sharp breath. But I suddenly gasped when I opened my eyes and looked at my chest. The symbol was still there. I know I had to see it properly so I gathered my courage, stood up and looked at my chest in the old mirror in the corner. The mark had grown darker overnight. The faint symbols were now clear enough for me to see. There are thin lines that curved inward and meeting at a point over my heart. It looked like a seal closing itself.I hesitated then slowly lifted my hand and touched the edge of the mark. I traced the lines on my chest with my finger and carefully moved it. But when I reached the center part, a sharp pain shot through my chest."Hiss..."I pulled my hand away and took a quick breath. The pain was not only on my skin.
Harrison Hale's POV:I pressed closer to her before letting my thigh slipped between her legs to feel the heat there. With one swift motion, I tugged her shirt up just enough to exposed her legs. There were no undergarments. It was just a pair of smooth and soft thighs and the soft mound of her pussy that was already slick. I held her steadily when she subconsciously tried to close her legs. "Sshh. Let me help you." I rasped while my fingers were tracing up her inner thigh. "Wait—Aahh..." Her words were cut off into a moan when my hand cupped her pussy and feeling the wetness coating her folds."Is this what your body wants?" I asked while my thumb brushed lightly her clit. "S-Shut up... J-Just... Mhmm..."She bucked against my hand before a sharp breath escaped from her lips. I waited but she didn't move away. I parted her lips with two fingers and sliding through her slickness to tease her entrance. She was soaked. Her pussy was now clenching at the barest touch. I slowly pushe
Harrison Hale's POV:The bond between Katherine and I were still burning. It was not the sharp and intoxicating pull that the old songs or council lectures had promised. This was worse. It was uneven, raw and damaged. There was a constant sting burning in my chest where the bond should have settled. She was rejecting it even now.I lay awake in my quarters and staring at the ceiling while my wolf paced under my skin. Even from a distance, her shallow breaths and restless movements tugged at me like a hooked blade.Katherine Lark was not sleeping. And neither was I.Her constant refusal was gnawing at me. This was not about pride or dominance anymore. I know a bond was meant to be shared although I had forced it shut after our earlier conversation. But the backlash left my wolf bristling and restless. She was struggling. I felt it even from here. The pressure was rising and her distress, pain and resistance came through the bond in broken flashes. And underneath it all, there was want.
Katherine Lark's POV:Soon, whispers rippled through the crowd."She was probably sent here to deceive us!""But why can't I smell her?""Shh. Maybe it was true! She was here to spy on us."My stomach dropped. I had expected their suspicion but not this. Soon, Alpha Harrison dismissed everyone and ordered someone to give me a place to stay. The room was small and more for containment than comfort. But I was too tired to care about it. My clothes were still stuck to my skin from sweat and forest mist. I set my bag down and loosened my cloak. I told myself I deserved a moment to breathe. I was about to pull my shirt over my shoulders when the door suddenly opened.I froze.Alpha Harrison stepped inside the room without warning and shut the door closed behind him with a deliberate motion. The lock slid into place with a sharp click that echoed far too loudly in the small room."What are you doing?" I demanded before putting my clothes back into place. His gaze flicked briefly to my body
