Chapter 192: The Choice to Stand

(Alina’s POV)

That night, sleep refused to come.

Lucien lay beside me, his breathing slow and steady, but I knew he wasn’t really sleeping. I could feel it in the way his arm stayed stiff around my waist, like he was guarding something fragile. Like he was guarding me.

The room was quiet, too quiet. Every small sound felt loud — the ticking of the clock, the wind brushing the curtains, the distant hum of the city. My mind would not rest. It kept going back to one thing.

Dima.

He had escaped again.

That scared me more than the attack itself.

I turned carefully, not wanting to wake Lucien, and stared at the ceiling. My chest felt tight. I hated this feeling — waiting, guessing, being protected like glass that could shatter at any touch.

I wasn’t glass.

I had been broken before. And I was still standing.

Slowly, I slipped out of bed.

Lucien stirred. “Alina?” His voice was low, sleepy, but alert.

“I’m fine,” I whispered. “I just… need water.”

He watched me

Chapter 193 : The Quiet ThreatAlina’s POVIt didn’t happen loudly. That was the worst part.No shouting. No breaking glass. No danger rushing through the door.Just a normal morning that slowly stopped feeling normal.I woke up before Lucien that day.The room was still dark, quiet except for his steady breathing beside me. I lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, counting the seconds between his breaths. I had been doing that a lot lately — watching, listening, waiting.Waiting for what, I didn’t know.I slipped out of bed carefully, not wanting to wake him. My feet touched the cold floor, and I wrapped my robe around myself as I walked to the window.Everything outside looked peaceful.Too peaceful.I remember thinking, Maybe today will be normal. That was my mistake. The package arrived around noon.I wasn’t expecting anything. When the doorbell rang, I hesitated before opening it. That pause — that small instinct — told me something was wrong before my mind could catch up

  • The Secetary’s Secret Marriage   The Weight I Didn’t Say Out Loud

Chapter 191 : The Weight I Didn’t Say Out LoudAlina’s POVI didn’t break the way people expect you to break. There was no screaming. No collapse to the floor. No tears soaking pillows in the middle of the night. It was quieter than that.It started with small things.I forgot where I put my phone three times in one morning. Burned the toast. Stared at the kettle until the water boiled dry. When Lucien asked if I was alright, I smiled too quickly and said yes.I kept saying yes.But something inside me was slowing down, like a clock losing time.Every sound made me flinch. The gate opening.A car stopping outside.Lucien’s phone buzzing late at night.Sometimes I caught myself holding my breath without realizing it, as if danger could hear me breathing.Lucien noticed, of course. He always did.He started touching me more gently, like I might shatter if he wasn’t careful. His hand at my lower back when we walked. His thumb brushing my knuckles when we sat together. He asked fewer ques

  • The Secetary’s Secret Marriage   Quiet After the Storm

Chapter 190 : The Quiet After the StormI thought the fear would leave after the attack failed.I was wrong. It stayed. It settled into the walls of the house, into the silence between footsteps, into the way every sound now felt sharper than it should. The danger had passed, at least for now, but my body didn’t believe it. My mind didn’t either.I woke before dawn, staring at the ceiling, listening to Lucien’s breathing beside me. He was awake too. I could tell. He always breathed differently when his thoughts were heavy. Slower. Controlled. Like he was holding something back.No one spoke. The night before had been chaos — shouting, alarms, rushed movements, Lucien barking orders with a voice I had never heard before. Cold. Deadly. Focused. And then the silence after, thick and terrifying.Dima had escaped.Again.I turned my head slightly and looked at Lucien’s face in the dim light. His jaw was tight, eyes fixed on nothing. I knew that look now. It was the same one he wore when he

  • The Secetary’s Secret Marriage   Standing My Ground

Chapter 189: Standing My GroundThe morning sun barely broke through the clouds, and I felt a restless energy coursing through me. I couldn’t sit still. Dima’s last move had shaken me more than I wanted to admit, but I refused to feel powerless anymore. No more hiding. No more waiting for Lucien to fix everything.I spread out the papers and notes I had been collecting for days. Names, addresses, connections — anything that might lead me to Dima’s new ally. Every line I read, every detail I connected, made my pulse race. I realized something Lucien hadn’t: someone close to him was feeding Dima information. That someone trusted Lucien… but betrayed us.I swallowed hard. This was bigger than I thought. And if I didn’t act now, the next attack would hit harder.I checked my phone. Lucien was still in meetings at the office, probably unaware of the detail I had just discovered. I knew I couldn’t wait for him to notice. I took a deep breath. “I can do this,” I whispered to myself. “I have

  • The Secetary’s Secret Marriage   Realization

Chapter 188: RealizationI had been watching the monitors, checking the security feeds, making sure every corner of the property was locked down. Every movement was accounted for. Every visitor, every car. Nothing was left to chance. I thought I was ready for anything. I thought I controlled everything. Then I saw her name on a message I didn’t expect. Alina. Not a casual note. Not a question. Something about Dima. Something that made my chest tighten. I scrolled through quickly, reading her plan. My blood ran cold, not because of danger — I knew she could handle danger — but because she hadn’t told me.I leaned back, gripping the edge of the desk. My mind raced. She was… bold. Too bold. Brave. Dangerous. Smart. All at once.A part of me wanted to be angry — furious — that she’d gone behind my back. But another part… a bigger part, felt a swell of pride I couldn’t hide. She wasn’t the same woman who had been scared, who had trembled at threats. She was thinking, planning, moving. Taki
