Chapter 1

Five years after marrying the Alpha of his pack, Ethan Hart, I found out I was pregnant.

I was thrilled and wanted to surprise Ethan with the news, so I secretly made my way to the Razor Fang Pack where he was supposedly away on business. Instead, I overheard a conversation between him and his friends.

“Ethan, you’re using this business trip as a cover to get a mate certificate with Lyla Ziggler in Razor Fang Pack? And you’re planning a marking ceremony with her? But isn’t Madeline Foster your mate? You marked her years ago!”

“You don’t know the full story. That mate certificate with Madeline only works within the Silver Moon Pack. It won’t show up in any other territory.”

“Besides, Ethan never actually marked Madeline. That was just a regular bite mark. He's been waiting for Lyla. He wants to give her a grand marking ceremony.”

“So what you’re saying is, Lyla is the one Ethan truly loves? She’s his real mate?”

I froze. My entire body turned cold, and it felt as if all the blood had stopped flowing. I thought I had misheard them, but Ethan’s next words crushed all my hope.

“I love Madeline. She’s the only one I see as my mate.

“I’m holding the marking ceremony with Lyla because she saved Maddie’s life five years ago. She got seriously injured because of it. She made me promise this wouldn’t affect my relationship with Maddie. All she wants is the status of being an Alpha’s mate, so she doesn’t get pushed around in the pack. That’s not too much to ask.”

Ethan spoke slowly and seriously.

Each word hit me like a blow, and I was stunned motionless.

Five years ago, I was almost hit by a runaway truck. If Lyla hadn’t pushed me out of the way, I would’ve died right there.

Instead, she was the one who got hit, became seriously injured, and missed her final exams at college.

To thank her, Ethan and I covered all of her college expenses and even arranged a trip for her to study and travel in the Northern Plains.

Ethan said that saving me was the same as saving him.

He would do anything to repay that debt.

I thought that was the end of their connection. I never imagined it would turn into this.

Someone in the room asked Ethan, “Aren’t you afraid Madeline will find out?”

Ethan looked down at his phone, scrolling through something, and replied with full confidence, “I’ll always love Maddie. She gave up everything, including her family and her friends, to follow me to my pack. I’ll never stop loving her. As long as none of you say anything, she’ll never find out what we talked about today.”

The very next moment, my phone buzzed.

I looked down at Ethan’s message, and it felt like a dagger had pierced my heart.

[Maddie, I miss you so much. Being this far away for work is killing me. I’m going to try my best to make it home for our anniversary. I love you.]

My vision blurred as tears dripped onto the screen.

Ethan loved me passionately. Everyone in the pack knew how much I meant to him.

Once, I went out without my phone and didn’t contact him for two hours. He panicked and mobilized the entire pack to look for me.

When he found me, he hugged me with trembling arms. “Maddie, don’t ever leave like that again. Do you know how scared I was that something might happen to you?”

To give him peace of mind, I’d kept my phone on me at all times. I was always ready to answer his calls.

My phone buzzed again. He was calling again probably because I hadn’t responded.

But at that moment, I didn’t have the heart to pick up.

Inside the room, Ethan’s expression changed immediately. He gripped his phone tightly, calling again and again.

His friends tried to calm him.

“Relax, maybe Madeline’s just busy and didn’t see the message.”

“You’re overthinking it. Missing one call is totally normal.”

Ethan snapped, “You don’t get it! Maddie would never ignore my call! This isn’t normal!”

He started pacing the room, dialing over and over.

I stared blankly at the man who was panicking over me, but my heart ached.

I still couldn’t believe it. How could someone who loved me this much betray me?

Struggling desperately on the ground, Ethan tried to explain himself.“No, I'm your Alpha Female’s mate! Let me go!”He looked up with eyes full of pain and vulnerability.“Maddie, what do I have to do for you to forgive me?”I looked down at him with an indifferent expression.“I will never forgive you. From the moment you decided to wait for Lyla to graduate and then hold a marking ceremony with her, we were destined to end up like this.”This shattered him. He was dragged out of the hall.Under Charles' concerned gaze, I smiled calmly and stood before everyone to announce the severance of our ties with the Silver Moon pack.“From this day forward, the Dark Moon Pack will cut all ties with the Silver Moon Pack. There will be no more cooperation between us, ever.”The Silver Moon Pack was never as powerful as us. They had always been a lesser pack, surviving in part by relying on us.The news shocked the Silver Moon Pack. When Hector found out, he beat Ethan mercilessly.“

My succession ceremony was right on schedule.Ethan hadn’t originally planned to attend, but he suddenly recalled that he first met me in the Dark Moon Pack.At such a grand occasion, he thought maybe he’d see me again. He could at least try to find out something about me.So, despite his physical discomfort, he forced himself to come to the Dark Moon Pack.Ken accompanied him, chatting enthusiastically along the way.“I heard the new Alpha Female of the Dark Moon Pack is stunning! And she doesn’t have a mate. Alphas from all over are lining up to court her.“Oh, and rumor has it she even has a son! But she’s supposed to be unmated, right? Isn’t that strange?”Ethan cut him off impatiently.“I have no interest in the Alpha Female of the Dark Moon Pack. Your job is to help me find Madeline. I don’t need updates on anyone else.”Ken opened his mouth but said nothing. He had been meaning to mention that the new Alpha Female’s name was also Madeline, but maybe it was just a coinc

News of the leadership change in the Dark Moon Pack spread like wildfire throughout the werewolf kingdom.“I heard the new Alpha is a woman. She's the only daughter of the Alpha King.”“Apparently, the succession ceremony is going to be huge. Alphas from all the major packs have been invited.”Ethan didn’t care about any of the gossip from other packs. All he could think about was finding me.He knew nothing about my background. All he remembered was how much my family had opposed us being together, and how I, without hesitation, left my home and followed him to the Silver Moon Pack.I had once told him, “Ethan, I’ve already cut ties with my father. You’re the only family I have now.”He believed it. He truly thought he was all I had. If that's the case, why did I vanish without a single trace after leaving him?Ethan clutched his head in agony.Ever since I left, he had been plagued by unbearable headaches, especially at night. It was a deep, soul-searing pain that kept him a

I was brought back to the Dark Moon Pack. Everything here felt so familiar.I'd once lived here for eighteen years. Everything looked exactly the same as when I left.Charles was already standing at the entrance of the villa, waiting to welcome me home.In the five years since I last saw him, more gray hair had grown. His face had aged significantly too.Seeing him like this broke my heart. My eyes welled up with tears again. He smiled and opened his arms wide.“Welcome home, my dear daughter.”I rushed into his embrace, choking back sobs as I apologized over and over.“I’m sorry, Dad. I’ve been such a disappointment. I made you worry so much.”Charles didn’t ask me how I had been all these years. Instead, he just looked at me carefully with a hopeful gleam in his eyes.“Now that you’re back, will you leave again?”I wiped my tears away and smiled at him.“No, I’m not leaving again. I’m staying in the Dark Moon Pack for good.”As I spoke, I gently touched my lower abdomen.

Clang! With a loud crash, Ethan knocked over the ceremonial stage. His eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed Ken by the collar and shouted furiously."Who took Maddie? What the hell happened?"The overwhelming force of an Alpha’s rage radiated from him, making everyone in the hall tremble with fear."I-I don’t know. They left the Silver Moon Pack right away and disappeared," Ken stammered. He was doing his best to stay composed under the pressure.Ethan shoved him aside and stormed out of the banquet hall."Ethan! The marking ceremony isn’t over yet–" Lyla called after him. Her face was pale as she went up against Ethan’s fury."The ceremony is over!"Ethan didn’t stop walking. He simply left those words behind. He jumped into his car and sped off, heading straight for his villa back in the Silver Moon Pack's territory. On the way back, he kept calling me, but every call went straight to voicemail. He realized my phone had already been turned off.A sense of panic like never bef
