Alice's POVLucy gave me a quick glance and looked away as if I was nothing. I clenched my fist, trying not to look embarrassed. I stood against the wall, watching as everyone crowded around Lucy."Miss Lucy, your outfit is stunning!""Miss Lucy, let us show you to the design department!""Miss Lucy, would you like some coffee? Tea?"They surrounded her like she was a celebrity, all smiling and bowing and trying to impress her. While I was completely invisible to them.Lucy glanced at me again with a smug smile on her face. I took a deep breath and started walking toward the entrance when suddenly a loud engine sound made me jump and spin around.A bright red sports car came to a stop right in front of the building. The door opened upward like a wing, and out stepped a pair of long legs in high heels. My mouth parted in awe as I saw a beautiful woman with long black hair styled in curls and a tight designer dress that showed off her figure stepped out of the car. She looked like someone who walked straight out of a magazine. The woman tossed her car keys to the valet without even looking at him. "Take care of i

Alice's POVMy heart jumped with excitement. "Really?""Yes," David said simply.I clasped my hands together, trying not to smile too widely. "Thank you! I promise I'll be the best wife I can be for you in public. I'll learn everything I need to know. But I also really want to work."I took a breath, trying to explain. “You’ve done a lot for me. I want to repay you by helping you with your work as well, if that’s fine with you.”David stared at me. His dark eyes looked into mine so intensely that I felt my face grow hot. I looked away, embarrassed by his stare. Then he nodded. "Fine. I'll take you to the office tomorrow. You can start working as a designer. B

Alice's POVI smiled back at her. “I’m Alice.”She nodded. “Master told me about you. Would you like to see your new home?" she asked."My new home?" I repeated, and blinked rapidly in confusion."Yes! Mr. Kastner said this is your place now. Come, let me show you around."After finishing the soup, Mary helped me out of bed. My body ached all over, but I could walk. She led me out of the bedroom and down a long hallway. My mouth nearly fell open as I took in the huge place. Even the Fairborn mansion couldn’t compare to how beautiful this villa was.Everything looked expensive and clean.

Not your dresses, your jewels. Not even your father! Understood?!” she yelled at me.My head was spinning and I could barely make sense of my surroundings. I tried my best to stay awake. The small photo of my mother slid across the tiles and the music box tumbled, cracking against the wall.Lily’s eyes scanned my belongings and then stopped on the silver necklace. It was my mother's necklace. The one thing she'd left me that was truly valuable. It was a delicate silver chain with a small pendant shaped like a bird. It had been her favorite piece of jewelry.Lily dropped to her knees, her pregnant belly making it awkward, and snatched up the necklace. Her eyes went wide and sparkled with g
