Chapter 1

At my resolute answer, Victoria Parker broke down on the hospital bed, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

Both families were jolted out of their joy at welcoming a newborn.

Her assistant, Justin Berkley, suddenly stepped forward and shouted, "Matt! Do you even have a heart? Do you have any idea how much Victoria has sacrificed for you and the family? Are you blind?

"Are you seriously making a scene just because she bought a sofa and slept in the living room instead of with you?"

Hearing this baseless explanation, Victoria's father grew even angrier. "So that's it? She's pregnant, she doesn't feel up to those things, and you want a divorce? Do you even deserve to be called a man?"

Everyone glared at me, their fury burning as if they wanted to set me on fire.

Seeing the situation spiral, my father quickly stepped in to smooth things over.

"Please, don't be upset. Matt's probably been waiting outside the delivery room too long—he's talking nonsense. We've just welcomed a healthy grandson. This is a joyous occasion—he doesn't mean it."

My mother hurried over as well, pulling out tissues to wipe Victoria's tears.

"Victoria, don't take it to heart. Matt's just lost his head for a moment. You've just given birth—your body is weak. You mustn't cry like this. Focus on your recovery first. That's what matters."

The nurses and even the patients in neighboring beds stared in stunned silence.

But my tone didn't soften in the slightest.

"Dad, I'm not confused. I mean every word. This marriage has to end."

I took out the divorce papers and handed them to Victoria, my voice cold.

"Sign it."

Seeing how firm I was, Victoria's father could no longer hold back. He exploded in anger.

"Matt, you heartless bastard! Do you know how hard it was for Victoria to carry your child for ten months? She just went through hell in that delivery room to give you a baby, and now you turn around and ask for a divorce? How can you face her? How can you face us?"

My father's face turned pale with rage at my stubbornness. He raised his hand to strike me, but my mother grabbed him tightly and held him back.

Breathing heavily, he glared at me.

"Do you have to tear this family apart before you're satisfied? Whatever the problem is, can't you talk it out? Why bring up divorce now, of all times?"

"There's nothing to talk about."

I looked at Victoria on the bed. Her sobs had quieted, though her shoulders still trembled.

In a hoarse voice thick with tears, she asked, "Matt… tell me why."

"There is no why," I replied coldly. "It's over."

With that, I couldn't be bothered to stay any longer. I turned and walked toward the door.

Justin suddenly grabbed my arm.

"You're not going anywhere! Victoria is at her weakest right now. How can you just leave like this?"

I pried his hand off.

"You're just an assistant. What I do is none of your business."

He refused to back down, grabbing my collar and speaking with righteous anger.

"Fine, I'm just her assistant. But what you're doing—anyone with a shred of conscience can't stand it! What kind of man files for divorce right after his wife gives birth? Matt, forget being a man—you're not even worthy of being called human."

I shook him off, but my fist lashed out before I could stop it.

With a dull thud, Justin staggered back and fell to the floor, clutching his cheek in shock.

Victoria struggled to sit up on the bed, the IV line swaying violently as she pulled at it.

"If you have a problem, take it out on me! Why drag an innocent person into this?"

The court's ruling came swiftly.Victoria was found guilty of cohabiting with another man during the marriage and of intending to harm a minor. She was stripped of all marital assets, and due to the "premeditated harm" revealed in the recording—though never carried out, the circumstances were deemed especially severe—she was sentenced to one year and six months in prison.Justin, as an accomplice and for his role in destroying another person's family, was also sentenced to one year in prison. The moment the verdict was announced, Victoria's parents publicly severed all ties with her.Overnight, the two of them seemed to age a decade. As they walked out of the courthouse, they could barely straighten their backs. They didn't spare Victoria a single glance. Instead, they bowed deeply to me, their voices choked with emotion."We're sorry… We failed to raise our daughter properly. You've suffered because of us."Justin's fate was even worse. Not only did he lose his job, but the com

I looked down at Victoria from above, then pulled out the recorder I had prepared long ago. Pressing play, I let the evidence speak for itself. After a burst of cold static, Justin's flippant voice rang out, "Victoria, when this baby is born, do you think it'll be mine or his?"Victoria's laughter was lazy, almost amused."Who knows? We never used protection anyway. Let's just see whose swimmers are stronger."Justin chuckled."If the kid ends up looking like me, do you think that idiot Matt will go crazy?""Good. Let him go crazy," she replied lightly. "When the time comes, I'll just cry a little and get him to raise the child for us."The recording fell silent for a few seconds before Justin asked again, "What if the baby isn't mine?"Victoria's voice softened instantly, coaxing him, "If it's not yours, then I won't keep it. We can stage an 'accident' and get rid of it. After that, we'll just have another one together.""An accident?" Justin sounded hesitant.Victoria let o

I looked at Victoria and Justin—panic written all over their faces—and said coldly, "If they hadn't been so brazen as to carry on in broad daylight, I wouldn't have been able to produce such straightforward evidence."The gallery instantly erupted. The wave of chatter nearly lifted the roof."You really can't judge a person by appearances. What a shameless pair!""Matt's had it the worst, being schemed against by the people closest to him!""No wonder he insisted on divorce—who could tolerate a betrayal like that?"I raised a hand for silence, my gaze settling on Victoria's ashen face.Pointing to the structural diagram of the sofa on the screen, I said, "The base of this sofa was hollowed out and fitted with a hidden compartment—just large enough to conceal an adult man."My lawyer immediately initiated a video call, the camera switching to my living room.On screen, a worker demonstrated the mechanism. With a press of a concealed latch on the armrest, the base slowly lifted,

Faced with the accusations, I felt nothing at all. I had endured all of this for days—just to reach this moment. My voice remained calm as my gaze swept over Victoria and Justin, both wearing smug expressions."Your Honor, I request permission to play the next video."With the judge's approval, my lawyer immediately operated the equipment. The screen switched to a nighttime view of the living room.Moonlight filtered through the curtains, faintly outlining the sofa. Then, suddenly, the backrest of the sofa began to lift.Everyone present was visibly confused."What the… are we watching a furniture demo now?""This sofa has that feature? Sure, it's handy for storing blankets, but what's the point of showing this now?""Wait… that opening angle doesn't look like normal storage space."For the first time, a flicker of panic crossed Justin's face. Victoria's complexion turned deathly pale. But I gave them no chance to react. The video continued. In the dim light, a shadowy figu

At Todd's words, the entire courtroom fell silent. He inserted a USB drive into the court's playback system and opened a folder labeled "Evidence." Inside were several video files. He clicked on one.In an instant, the large screen displayed the living room of my home.Victoria sat on the sofa in loose loungewear, her body rising and falling gently with her breath. From the camera angle, the faint flush on her cheeks was clearly visible. At first, the scene was calm. But after a few minutes, her movements began to change—her shoulders trembling slightly, her hands unconsciously gripping the armrests of the sofa.A heavy silence settled over the courtroom as people exchanged uneasy glances."What is this…?"The judge frowned.Whispers spread among the spectators, confusion written all over their faces. On screen, Victoria's cheeks were flushed, a fine sheen of sweat forming along her temples—she was clearly in a state that defied easy explanation.Seated beside the plaintiff

At the sight of what I'd done, my father trembled with rage. Without hesitation, he struck me hard across the face."Matt! How long are you going to keep being this stubborn? Do you have any idea how much Victoria has suffered for you? Are you blind and heartless? The paternity test is right in front of you, and you're still determined to destroy this family?"The slap cracked loudly through the air—he hadn't held back at all.Pain exploded across my cheek, the skin already flushing red and bruised. The crowd erupted into an uproar. Some pointed at me and cursed, calling me heartless. Others spoke into their phones, lamenting, "What's wrong with men these days? How can they be this cruel?"The redness in Victoria's eyes finally overflowed into tears. As she looked at me, the last trace of hope in her gaze slowly faded.I pressed a hand to my burning cheek. My voice wasn't loud, but it rang out with unmistakable clarity. "See you in court."Her shoulders trembled violently. Tears
