Alicia's POV.
It felt as though my world was unraveling, the agony almost unbearable. My mother, the one person who had always been there for me, was gone… she was dead. My whole world collapsed. In the next few minutes, I couldn’t understand what was happening around me. I refused to accept the truth, the horrible truth. The doctor and the nurses left me, and the door to the emergency unit creaked open. My heart dropped as I turned toward the door, only to be met with the harrowing sight of my mother’s body being wheeled out on a stretcher. She was covered from head to toe with a stark white sheet, a cruel act indicating her death. My eyes widened in deep pain, the tears momentarily freezing in my eyes as the gravity of the scene hit me with a jarring force. Slowly, I forced myself to stand, my legs shaking uncontrollably beneath me, each step toward the stretcher feeling like an eternity. The stretcher halted in front of me. I moved closer, my heart pounding with an intense, almost unbearable pain. I reached for the white sheet, driven by a desperate need to see my mother one last time. My gaze was locked on the stretcher as I slowly, tremblingly, lifted the sheet. Her hair, once so familiar and comforting from my childhood; hair I had lovingly brushed while singing to her, was the first thing I saw. Her eyes were closed, her face serene and still. Tears began to flow freely down my cheeks as I revealed her beautiful face, now peaceful yet irrevocably lifeless. My hands trembled as I reached for her cheeks. Her every word replayed in my mind as I stared at her lifeless body. My mother was really gone. Gently cupping her cheeks, I leaned in close and whispered desperately, “Wake up, Mom. I know you’re just pretending. This is one of your tricks, right? Please, wake up!” My voice was a soft, pleading murmur as I shook her lightly on the stretcher, clinging to a fragile hope that she would respond. My eyes darted to her hand, which lay motionless, not a single finger twitching. The cruel stillness drove my desperation to a new level. “You can't leave me...” My voice cracked and rose in frantic cries. I felt as though the world had come crashing down around me. My cries were relentless, each sob reaching my shattered heart. In the midst of my despair, a sudden voice cut through the haze of my grief. “Alicia?” I froze, my body momentarily paralyzed by shock. For a few agonizing seconds, I stared, and then, a bitter, pained laugh escaped me, but it was short-lived. The laugh quickly faded into a scowl as reality crashed in; Andrew was standing there before me, intruding on my darkest moment. “Alicia, I…” he began, his voice hesitant, but I didn’t want to hear it. My anger erupted uncontrollably. I stormed toward him, driven by a raw, searing pain, and slapped him hard across the face. His eyes widened in shock, and he instinctively raised a hand to his reddened cheek. The surprise in his gaze only fueled my fury. “You don't deserve to be here now.” My voice trembled with the intensity of my emotions. I glared at him, each word laced with the pain that his late presence had only increased. Why didn’t he show up when I needed him the most? He was always so late, coming home late when I was pregnant, late when I gave birth, and late when I feared for my mother’s death. "I called you a thousand times, why are you late again?" My heart had begun to hate him, and years of pain and torture were vented at this moment. "I was in an important meeting and my phone was turned off." His explanation was so pale and ridiculous. "Don’t be so ridiculous, Andrew." I ignored him directly and followed the medical staff to send my mother to the morgue. Andrew didn’t follow me, and I didn’t care about him anymore. After arranging my mother, I sat on the ground, exhausted, and digested my pain alone. I didn’t know how long it had been when I looked up and saw Andrew standing in front of me. His expression looked surprisingly gentle. He squatted down and wanted to hug me. "You still have me." I avoided his arm and stood up to leave. He chased after me. "Alicia, wait. Where are you going?" “Home.” “I will drive you back. You are not suitable to drive a car right now.” He didn’t even know I nearly lost my life on the road earlier. “No need. I can handle everything by myself.” For so many years, I have been helping myself alone. “Please let me drive you. You can’t put your life in danger.” He walked fast and stopped my way. “For Elisa.” His expression looked serious, as if he really cared about my safety. But the belated concern was worthless, and I didn't need him anymore. "Andrew, let's make things clear. I will return to a home without you. And my daughter doesn't need a father like you." "What do you mean?" His words seemed a little unstable. “I want a divorce.” He was stunned, his outstretched hand to grab my wrist hanging in the air. I wished I were joking, but I wasn’t. Andrew and I were done now.Alicia's POVSeeing that I had been given the week off from work, I decided to get up and do the house chores myself. Plus, I had informed my nanny not to show up.With a smile on my face, I began to wash the dishes, cook, and clean. From what I could tell, Elisa was playing, and that’s why she clearly hadn’t bothered me for now.I tried my best to keep everywhere clean before I could go do the laundry. Just as I was still caught up with so many house chores, the loud knock against the door caught my attention. It made me curious, considering the fact that I had informed the nanny not to show up today. Besides, I barely knew anyone around the area. So who was it at the door? I pondered deeply. The knock came again, swift and abrupt this time around. Without hesitation, I took off my apron and tossed it onto the chair that was beside me. I headed for the living room.I had to check if I was okay too before opening the door.I began to speak, thinking it was my nanny, “I told you not to
Brian's POV. The bottle was already half-empty.I sat on the edge of my bed, my fingers curled tightly around the glass as I stared into the golden liquid, hoping it would blur the sharp images in my mind. But no matter how long I stared, no matter how fast the alcohol hit my system, Alicia’s terrified face wouldn’t fade.My stomach turned as I remembered her trembling hands, the way her eyes welled up with fear when she told me what happened. I should’ve been there. I should’ve protected her. The fact that it happened in my hotel made the guilt heavier. My chest felt like something was pressing against it, a weight I couldn’t shake.I tipped the glass and swallowed it all at once. It burned going down, but it didn’t stop the ache. The door creaked open behind me."Alpha Brian?" Nathan’s voice broke through the silence.I didn’t turn. "What is it, Nathan?"He stepped inside, closing the door gently behind him. I heard the soft thud of his boots on the carpet."Just wanted to give y
Alicia's POV. Mr. Brian's voice still echoed in my ears, low and firm. "I'll take you home, Alicia. No arguments."My heart fluttered at the idea. Not from excitement, but dread. I looked up at him, my boss, the president of the company, standing tall in his usual dark suit. His expression was unreadable, as always. Calm. Composed. In control. He looked at me as if he already knew what I would say, as if my resistance was pointless."Sir, I appreciate it, but... I don’t think it’s a good idea. People might start talking." My voice was barely above a whisper. I looked down at my feet, trying to avoid the intensity of his eyes.He didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. "And you think I care about what they say?"I swallowed hard, still not meeting his gaze. "It could cause problems. Rumors."There was a long pause before he spoke again. His tone is sharper now, more commanding. "Refusing me would be disobedience, Alicia. You’re already on your second strike. Do you really want a third?"My chest
Brian's POV. After wrapping things up with Mr. Thompson, I finally let out a deep breath. The man was a pain; arrogant, loud, and always trying to talk over everyone. But I’d handled him, like always. I turned around, expecting silence, but instead, I saw Alicia rising to her feet. Her movements were slow, almost cautious. Then I noticed something off—her steps wobbled, and her knees buckled slightly. Before I could think twice, I moved.I reached her just in time, scooping her up into my arms like it was second nature. Her body stiffened, and she started to struggle, pushing weakly against my chest. But I held her tighter.“Don’t move,” I said firmly, my voice low but clear. “Just stay calm.”Her hands froze on my chest. She looked up at me with wide, questioning eyes, and something in me reacted; something hot, deep in my core. I wasn’t expecting that. Her eyes locked onto mine, searching, confused, maybe even a little angry, but she didn’t say a word. She didn’t have to. That ga
Brian's POVClimbing into the car, I didn't hesitate to ignite the engine. As it roared to life, I noticed my phone buzzing. When I looked at it, I realized it was the address that James had sent to Alicia to go pick up Mr. Thompson. With my jaw clenching tightly, I stepped hard on the accelerator, propelling the car forward in the direction. As I drove, I couldn't help but reflect on the mistakes I had made in just a single day.At first, Alicia was in her office. She was looking weak and unhealthy, but I didn't give much attention to it. Instead, I scolded her and pushed her into making decisions she shouldn't.Now, she was with a man who would do just anything in his power to have a lady beneath him. With my fingers tightening on the steering wheel, I pressed hard on the accelerator. I needed to arrive at the hotel faster to avoid anything from happening.“Just hang in there a little longer, Alicia, I'm coming to get you soon,” I mumbled, my frustration deepening at every turn I to
Brian's POVAs I sat quietly in my office, I kept on recalling how Alicia looked when I found her sleeping in her office this morning. Her eyes were sulken, not to talk about how unkempt her hair was. Could it be that she didn't go back home last night? Did I push her into overworking herself?I shook my head, trying to get the thoughts out of my mind. I shouldn't care. She brought this upon herself. She had the chance to leave, but she chose to stay back.I turned to the documents on my desk. I tried focusing, but it was difficult to do so. Closing the files in frustration, I stood to my feet. I began pacing the office until a knock came at my door. I thought it was Alicia, so I acted all stern and tough.“Come in,” I demanded, expecting her calm demeanor before me. I was instantly disappointed when the door opened to my Beta, Nathan, who bowed his head to me.“What do you want?” I asked in a grumpy tone, seeing that he wasn't the one I was expecting in my office. He paused for a sec
