* Regina *

A few days have passed. The first thing I noticed when I stepped deeper into my father's camp wasn't the stench of blood or the countless scars carved into every wooden post of the pack. It was the eyes of the wolves.

Dozens of them. Watching me, and my every move.

Some wolves widened their eyes in awe. Some narrowed in suspicion of my purpose. Some, softened with something that felt unsettlingly close to pride.

"These are my warriors, Regina," Malgori said behind me, voice deep and strangely gentle. "Your wolves too since you are my daughter."

I didn't respond to that declaration. I couldn't tell when I have thoughts debating inside my head. My throat had tightened the moment I saw them, wolves in human form, huge men and women with sharp gazes, hardened bodies, and chains. Real chains attached to their leg.

Some dangled from their wrists, remnants of restraints that were never truly removed. Some were wrapped around their waists like belts. Others had burns on their necks

    * Alpha Archer *I had faced armies without my pulse changing, just one look from me, and any warrior who didn't have Alpha blood would crumble. I had broken Alphas and watched kings kneel. But none of that prepared me for the way Regina stood in the firelight tonight.She didn't look at me when I stepped forward. She was focused on the enemies. Her spine was straight, her chin lifted, her shoulders squared in command. The flames painted her skin in gold and shadow, tracing the curve of her throat, the line of her jaw, the quiet, lethal grace in every breath she took.She was beautiful before even as an omega, I had always known that. But this, this was something else entirely. This was an Alpha who had earned her ground with blood and restraint and will. A woman whose warriors would die for her because she had taught them how to stand on their own feet without fear.The southern wolves hadn't seen it. They'd looked at her and seen history. A story they thought they understood. I saw

    * Regina *They did not come in silence, and for the first time, I fear the war is coming. Branches cracked at the southern treeline, deliberately loud, a warning meant to provoke rather than hide. The fires guttered as bodies shifted into wolves, warriors rising to their feet in one smooth, practiced motion. No panic or scrambling. Just readiness snapping into place like a blade sliding free of its sheath.I stepped forward before anyone could snarl. Five wolves emerged from the dark, then ten, then more, shadows resolving into muscle and scars and the unmistakable marks of southern bloodlines. Their fur was darker, heavier, streaked with ash and old dye. Bone charms hung from braided cords around their necks. Their eyes burned with challenge, not caution.Southern challengers did not come to talk, but I couldn't sense their Alpha. They fanned out at the edge of the firelight, claiming space that was not theirs. Their lead warrior shifted mid-step, bones cracking as he rose onto two

    * Regina *I did not intend to allow celebration. There was too much unfinished work to be done. Too many eyes now turned toward us. Provisional recognition was not safe, it was a blade balanced on a single breath. One misstep, one weakness exposed, and the crown would not hesitate to erase us. I knew that. I carried it in every muscle still aching from training, in every quiet calculation running beneath my thoughts.And yet... that was the lie I told myself as the night deepened and the pack refused to disperse.Fires bloomed without orders, small at first, then spreading like a constellation fallen to earth. Someone brought out old drums, their skins cracked and patched, beaten thin by years of hunger and flight. The rhythm was uneven, cautious, until it wasn't. Meat was shared, not ripped apart in frantic need, but passed from hand to hand, torn carefully, offered with nods instead of snarls. Laughter came hesitantly, like a limb testing if it was still attached, then stronger, fu

    * Regina *When dusk came, the pack smelled different, not of blood or fear or the sharp panic that used to cling to this place, but of sweat earned honestly, of earth torn by discipline instead of rage. We moved with purpose now. Wolves spoke less and watched more. Not because they were afraid of me, but because they were learning how to listen, to each other, to the land, and to themselves.Which mattered the most? I dismissed the last drill at sunset: no howls and celebration. Just nods exchanged between warriors who had tested themselves and survived their own limits. Rowan and Elias stayed behind with me as the others filtered away, some limping, some laughing quietly, everyone was exhausted."You pushed them harder today," Rowan observed, wiping his blade clean before sheathing it."They'll be pushed harder tomorrow," I replied. "The Alpha King won't care how far they've come. Only how steady they stand when pressure is applied."Elias studied the scuffed ground. "Pressure revea

    * Regina *Preparation came early and it did not begin with armor. It began with every breath we take in the following days. I was anxious of the incoming test or trial from the Alpha King, as my goal is for our pack to be recognized and not chase for being rogues. I wanted to gain the Alpha King's favor and recognition so that these wolves could live in peace, free from fear or hiding.My mother stood behind me in the low-lit chamber that once belonged to Malgori, her presence quiet but immovable. The room still carried the ghost of him, iron, smoke, old blood, but I had stripped it of his symbols. No trophies on the tables. No chains on the walls. Only maps carved into the table and training schedules pinned to the walls."Again," she said softly.I inhaled through my nose, slow and measured, feeling the tension coil and then settle. Power without control was what destroyed men like my father, and I have his blood in my veins. Power with discipline was what built legacies just like

    * Alpha Archer *I had learned a long time ago that storms will come with thunder. And worst, some will arrive in silence, so if you don't know, you might get hit.The West had been quiet since I left Regina's borders. My warriors felt it. They trained harder, spoke less, watched the treeline like prey that knew a hunter was thinking about them. They did not question my absence, but they felt its weight. So did I as always.Regina was doing this the hard way. The only way that would last for us.She did not ask me to stand beside her when the crown's envoys arrived. That was not her pride. That was a strategy that she had thought of. If the Wild Pack was to be recognized, it had to be because of her authority, not because the Alpha of the West propped it up.But Alpha King Zed would not see it that way, I know my uncle. Not yet.Which was why I stood now within the blackstone hall of the crown, beneath banners older than memory, facing the one wolf in the realm who had never needed to
