Chapter 4

(Flora Mana's POV)

I change into my evening gown and head to the venue with George Howard.

"Flora, you're beautiful. It's just a simple charity dinner, and you don't have to be nervous." George keeps comforting me on the way.

I nod. "George, you'd better call me Daisy Garcia in public."

"Why?" He is a little confused.

Of course I'm avoiding Leo Wilson.

But all I can tell George is, "My mother doesn't know about my divorce and my job. I don't want her to worry, but there might be her friends at the party."

"Okay. You're excellent, and the man who lost you may never know what treasure he's missing."

George comforts me gently.

But I still feel sad.

That man doesn't care about me at all.

Our car stops.

George gets out of the car first and gently opens the door for me.

Then he stretches out his arm towards me.

"Come on, my pretty Miss Daisy Garcia."

"Thank you." I'm a little shy, but still reach out and take his arm.

This is my first time with a man other than Leo Wilson.

"HI, Leo Wilson, long time no see." George seems to be greeting a friend.

I follow George's gaze and see Leo.

He is standing in a hand-cut suit under the brilliant lights of the hotel, his slender figure and handsome face exuding incomparable charm.

That's him, a man who easily can win or break a woman's heart.

After a quick glance at Leo, I lower my head and look away.

But I hear him say, "George Howard, long time no see. Won't you introduce me to this beautiful lady?"

He is right next to me, but I'm stiff and dare not to turn my head to look at him.

George briefly introduces me to him.

Can we go now?

Yet Leo still doesn't let me go.

"Hello, Miss Garcia, you are the most beautiful secretary I have ever met." Leo approaches me and tries to shake hands with me.

He is complimenting me.

The more he speaks, the sadder I feel.

For three years, no matter how much I prayed, he never came home to see me.

Now he finally meets me, but we have decided to divorce.

"Thank you."

To avoid being seen through, I hold back my grief, take his hand politely, and answer him.

After the greeting, I want to withdraw my hand.

But he is unwilling to let go.

I even feel his gaze on me scorching hotter.

"You are so beautiful and excellent. I am afraid that this position is not worthy of you."

He has something in his words.

"Cough." George interrupts him.

Thanks to George for helping me out.

Leo tries to keep pestering me, but we hurries into the venue before that.

On the way, George teases me with this.

"Daisy, your beauty is too dangerous. I've never seen Leo be so passionate about any of my other secretaries."

"He probably wouldn't know me if I didn't wear makeup." I reply.

George smiles and says nothing.

Leo may have found out that I'm probably his mate, so he's so passionate about me.

I know this because I am indeed his mate.

But I have made up my mind to divorce him.

I must end this wrong marriage.

Because he even had sex with another woman to humiliate me the only time we met.

Because I've wasted three years for him like a fool.

I can't give up my bottom line just because I love him.

I thought I wouldn't meet Leo again tonight, but when he buys the sapphire necklace for me, I realize I have underestimated his resolve.

Subconsciously, I want to run away, but it is too late.

"Daisy Garcia." He stops me.

Again, I can't escape.

I hear his serious voice.

"Miss Garcia, no matter what you think of me, I do fall in love with you at first sight. I hope you take it."

I remember how he hugged and kissed another woman in his office.

I'm almost on the verge of crying.

Is he so kind to every woman?

Except for Flora Mana.

I decide to completely reject him.

"Sorry, but I really can't take it. I'm married."

After saying this, I turn around and leave the banquet scene.

I didn't expect him to chase me all the way to the parking lot.

"Daisy, I don't care if you're married. You should be my mate, and we'll get married anyway."

"It's too late."

His words are three years late.

It's been enough time to let me down.

When I saw him hug another woman, I felt relieved besides pain.

I think he will just give up, but again he surprises me.

"Actually I'm married too, but it's a business marriage, and I promise you I'll be divorced within this month. By that time, I want you to be my secretary and give me a chance to prove that we are the destined couple. May I?"

For a split second, my heart hurts so much that I can barely breathe.

Is he serious?

He is frankly telling me his plan, promising to divorce within a month.

He is so eager to dump Flora Mana.

He doesn't even know that Daisy and Flora are the same person.

How ironic it is.

I can't help asking him, "Is your wife really worthless to you?"

He seems surprised, but still answers patiently, "I think it's also good for her to divorce as soon as possible."

"Of course," I'm almost desperate, "but I will never be your next wife."

"Why? You don't even know what happened between me and that woman. Daisy, you're too innocent, and you can't imagine..." He wants to explain.

For the first time, I interrupt him. "Leo Wilson, no matter how terrible my marriage is, I won't promise you. I hate you because you say you like me before you know more about me, because you give me gift without thinking about my feelings, because you pester me before you get divorced!"

It is the first time in my life that I have the courage to speak to him like this. I interrupted him, rejected him, and even berated him.

I see him clutching his chest and he seems to be in pain.

I know that because of his bloodlines, he will be in severe pain when rejected by his mate.

But this is the first time I've seen him in such pain.

He deserves it!

Before I burst into tears, I turn and leave, leaving him behind.

Immediately afterwards I hear a dull thud from behind.

I turn around and find Leo lying on the ground...
