Lyra's Pov

My chest heaved as I breathed hard. Dorian's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. The crowd gasped and for the first time, I saw a flicker of shock on Seraphina's face.

I stared daggers at Dorian while I struggled to control my breathing and keep the tears that kept threatening to fall.

"Lyra...." Dorian tried to speak but words failed him when he saw the hurt in my eyes and thankfully, he had the decency to look ashamed.

"How could you Dorian? How could you do this to me? After everything we've been through together!" I cried and this time the tears spilled.

The Dorian I knew hated seeing me cry so he instantly became remorseful.

"I am really sorry Lyra, I wanted to tell you, but I could not. My management already agreed to the deal. I knew you would never agree with me working with Seraphina but it was for my career." He pleaded.

I could see that he was truly sorry but the collaboration was not all.

"Then what about the kiss? What about giving her the glory for writing those songs?" I asked trying to keep my emotions at bay.

Dorian held my hands together as he tried to explain.

"Lyra, I never said Seraphina wrote those songs. I only appreciated her for helping me make the album a success. She really did try in the collaboration and even made amazing suggestions to the songs. I just had to thank her."

I angrily removed his hands from mine. What nonsense was he talking about?

"And you didn't think to appreciate your songwriter also? Was this why you said I should stay back at home?" I demanded.

"Am sorry Lyra, please forgive me." He said holding my hands again.

"And the kiss?" I asked.

"It was nothing, swear, nothing is going on between Seraphina and me, the management suggested it, so we had to pretend to be dating just to make the fans go crazy."

I removed his hands again from my own and scoffed.

"Really? And when your management made that suggestion, you didn't think it was time to let them know you have a wife?" I demanded.

After the incident with Seraphina where the doctors confirmed that I would never sing again because my vocal cords were damaged, I decided to become Dorian's songwriter.

He was my boyfriend then and after he made his first hit song which I wrote, we got married and decided to keep our private life a secret, so nobody knew that he was married.

Dorian opened his mouth to speak but Seraphina interrupted.

"Oh please, stop pretending like you are innocent! You always like playing the victim which is why you forever remain where you are!" She taunted and turned to Dorian.

"Dorian dear, you know you don't have to explain to her, she can believe whatever she wants to believe, after all, she has her own secrets that you are not aware of."

I looked at Seraphina in confusion. What secrets do I have that Dorian was not aware of? Oh wait! Did she know? I wondered but Dorian's voice brought me out of my reverie.

"Seraphina! Not now! Lyra is my wife and I would like you to respect that." Dorian scolded her.

I smiled, proud of Dorian. I knew Dorian loved me too much to betray me. The look on Seraphina's face was priceless and I felt like framing it.

"Dorian, believe me, your wife is keeping secrets from you! She is not who you think she is!" Seraphina insisted.

I decided at this point that it was time to tell Dorian the news that brought me to the concert.

"Lyra, what is Seraphina saying? What secrets are you keeping from me?" Dorian inquired.

I smiled at him warmly. It was good news so there was nothing to hide.

"Baby." I began. "I don't know how Seraphina got to know about it but the thing is, I am pregnant!"

Dorian's eyes widened in shock. We have been expecting a child since we got married five years ago. I had known about it for a week now but Dorian was so busy with his concert that there was no time to tell him.

I had agreed to stay home and watch the concert on TV but I decided last minute to come and tell him about it so that it would be a double celebration for him.

I had almost forgotten about it because of Seraphina's drama.

Dorian smiled happily at me and out of excitement, he carried me up, laughing joyfully.

"Thank you so much Lyra." He said looking into my eyes, Seraphina obviously forgotten.

"It's time to keep my promise then." He reminded me.

We have agreed that when we have our first child, we will announce our relationship.

Dorian took the mic and faced the bewildered crowd who were still at a loss at what was going on.

"Hello everyone!" Dorian shouted and the crowd responded.

He then took my hands and made me face the crowd directly.

"I know this might come as a surprise to everyone, but the truth is, I am married to this amazing woman here and we are currently expecting our first child," Dorian announced shocking everybody including me.

I was not expecting him to announce it this way. I smiled proudly at him. This was the man I married.

"I know that I have never mentioned it before and it was because I was trying to keep my private life away from public eyes but I believe now is the right time to do so," Dorian added.

All eyes were on me and I felt on top of the world. For the first time in a long while, I was in the spotlight.

I smiled brightly at Dorian and at the crowd but my smile vanished instantly when I saw Seraphina take the mic with a mischievous smile on her face.

My heart began to beat fast as I feared for what evil she was planning to do but before I could do anything, she started talking already.

"Dorian, you are a good man and I don't want you to be deceived." She started and we all looked at her in confusion.

"The child Lyra is carrying is not your own."

  • The Singing Phoenix's Revenge    Chapter 13

Lyra’s POVThe knock came again, softer this time. “Lyra?”“Lyra, please,” he said again. “Just a minute.”I almost laughed. Just a minute. As though minutes hadn’t already taken years from me.“Come in,” I said finally, my voice calm but detached. The door creaked open.Dorian stepped in, looking very pale under the dim lights, his shirt was still half-open from where the medics had worked on him. He looked tired… no, weak and like a man who could just fall anytime soon.He stopped when our eyes met. For a moment, I could see the disbelief on his face.“You really did sing,” he said quietly, stepping back to lean on the wall.“I did.”“You didn’t have to,” he continued, almost whispering. “They could’ve cancelled.”“I know.”He frowned. “Then why?”I turned back to the mirror. “Because I don’t let anyone decide when my music plays or doesn’t. Not anymore.”He gave a weak laugh. “Still the same fire.”“No,” I corrected softly. “You burned that one out years ago. This is something else

  • The Singing Phoenix's Revenge    Chapter 12

Lyra’s POVI froze immediately on the spot. What could have happened?... Was he suffering from a sickness I wasn't aware of?... Or was that just guilt mercilessly eating him up?. Different thoughts ran through my mind while I stared at the phone, face blank. Interesting how it was just less than 10 minutes ago but it had already made it's way to the headlines on social media.Theo, who had been packing up his cords, froze mid-motion. “He collapsed?”Ava nodded. “Backstage, ten minutes ago. They said he’s conscious, but weak. The organizers are losing their minds. The concert starts in less than 20 minutes from now.”I handed her back the phone. “Who’s taking his place?”“The manager said if he can’t sing, they’ll cancel.”“Cancel?” I echoed whilst Ava swallowed hard, nodding her head at the same time.“No, we can't just cancel the show because of one person.” I said firmly, already moving for the door. “The show goes on.”I walked backstage just to meet a total disaster…. Paramedics r

  • The Singing Phoenix's Revenge    Chapter 11

Lyra’s POV It has been five days since the last scandal was released. The whole media traffic had already died down. Seraphina and her team were able to convince the public that it was just a little misunderstanding between us and we had already ironed things out and we were now at peace. Again… we had another concert which was supposed to start in an hour or so. Though it was a musical tour and back to back concerts in the different cities of France was expected, I was already getting tired and sick of it. I was at a corner backstage trying to fix my makeup. Since I was still undercover I couldn't let any other person handle it.Theo was at the soundboard, quietly testing microphones. Cassian had disappeared into a corner call. That guy…. He was always making calls. Seraphina wasn't here yet. That’s when I felt him.The air shifted. It was familiar.. but unwanted.“Lyra.”I didn’t turn. My name from his mouth still carried too much history.“Don’t,” I said quietly. He moved closer.

Lyra’s POV “What is it again?” I questioned as I entered the empty dressing room. “You have just five minutes”. I added assertively and detached, setting down my mask.Dorian had sent a text, asking that we meet at the dressing room, that he had an important conversation to talk about. His voice came rough but low. “What exactly do you want from us, let's discuss it and stop going through corners”I looked up at him, meeting his eyes through the mirror.“I don't know what you're talking about”He turned towards me this time, his gaze intense. “You can stop the facade Lyra. I know you've been the mastermind behind all this chaos here and there.”“I have no idea why you are laying accusations on me”. I replied instantly, locking a stern gaze with him.“Lyra I'm sorry…. I never stopped thinking about that night… about you” His voice cracked with his eyes pleading. “The memory has always haunted me right from that time”.I looked at him, and for a moment my heart ached. That same ache I t

  • The Singing Phoenix's Revenge    Chapter 9

Dorian's POV It was already the second week of our tour and so far, sleep had already found its way to being my worst enemy. I spent most of the nights restless, either rolling from one side to the other on the bed or sitting by the wine cellar drowning myself in alcohol as I thought of how fast life could just change in the blink of an eye.Lyra was an entirely different person now and our collaboration felt more like torture than a tour. It felt like walking on broken bottles on an endless journey.I was still deep in thoughts and didn't realize when Seraphina had come.“Dorian?” She called, hitting my left shoulder to get my attention.“Huh?” I replied, jolting back to reality.“What have you been thinking about?”“Nothing important”, I replied tiredly with my voice low.“Nothing important, but you didn't see me walk in neither did you hear any of the things I said?” she asked, raising her brows.“Common Dorian, don't tell me you're still sulking over that Lyra girl. The more weak

  • The Singing Phoenix's Revenge    Chapter 8

Lyra's POV I arrived at the rehearsal hall which was busy with sound engineers and technicians working on the speakers, lights and every other instrument in preparation for our concert which was meant to be held this evening and was still about 8 hours away.Cassian was already there, sitting on a chair at one corner, swiping through the pages of some files, with that aura of authority he naturally carried.“Right on time, ” he said looking up as we shared a light hug.“I always am”, I teased, setting my bag on the table that was just right behind his seat.He nodded towards two figures standing near the control booth. “So Lyra, two more people have been added to our team. Meet Ava, she's a professional Journalist. She handles everything media and publicity. And Theo, a professional sound engineer and system analyst. Together, I believe you guys will make a great team.Ava extended her hand for a handshake. “You have nothing to worry about, we'll control the narrative. The world will
