SEREIA

I have the perfect position for my dear sister.” Selena said her voice sweet and poisonous at the same time.

“I’m going to be trying on a lot of dresses Martha.” Selena added. “And what better way to do this than to use my dearest sister.” She continued as she walked towards me placing her hands on my shoulder.

“I need someone to help me in and out of them, someone who knows how to shut up and do what they are told.” Selena murmured and I stared at her my throat closing up as tears rose at the back of my eyes.

The manager looked shocked as she spoke. “Miss Selena, I can help with that, this lady here hasn’t been trained for such.” Martha spoke patronizingly but Selena just rolled her eyes.

“I don’t care Martha!” “It’s either this or I’m out.” Selena retorted a smirk heavy on her face. I turned towards Lucas, my eyes pleading with him.

“Please don’t let her do this.” I whispered and he turned away blatantly ignoring me.

The manager dragged me towards that corner of the boutiqu

SEREIAThe elevator was silent and the tension on it was thick enough to be cut with a knife but thankfully the elevator moved fast. I stared at the steel floor feeling the weight of everything that had just happened.“You fired her.” I whispered holding my CV tightly in my hands.“She was incompetent.” Valerian replied swiftly his hands behind his back as he stared at the walls”“I don’t pay her to insult my guests.” He added and I stared at him for a few seconds before I replied.“I’m not a guest tho, I’m here to work”“Exactly!” He countered and I nodded deciding to keep quiet the rest of the ride, the doors finally opened onto the top floor. This floor was even more beautiful that the lobby. It was glass so it gave a three hundred degree view of the New York skyline. It was like I was standing on top of the world. As soon as we stepped out a middle aged balding man in a grey suit rushed towards us.“Mr. Ashford! The board members are waiting. They are confused as to why you walke

  • The Sister He Never Chose    Chapter 15

SEREIAMonday morning arrived quicker than I expected, I had spent the weekend preparing for the meeting and of course researching about the great Valerian Ashford.Turns out he is a billionaire tech CEO. His company is called Nethrix and they build elite cybersecurity and infrastructure systems used by governments and billion-dollar firms.I never knew he was that rich, I know his suits could have been a tell tale but I guess I didn’t think too far, I mean he his a billionaire and he still lets his grandmother work.I shook my head to rid myself of all these thoughts as I stared at the big building in front of me.It was a giant made of glass and steel and it stretched so high into the sky that I had to crane my neck to see the name written at the top— NETHRIX.I had done my best in looking professional today— black skirt and a white blouse that I had ironed at least three times. My hair was pulled back into a neat bun making me look presentable.I took a deep breath as I thought of

SEREIAI don’t know how long we drove for but when I woke up from my nap we were leaving the busy streets of New York behind and entering a neighborhood where the trees were tall and the gates were high. The SUV pulled up to a massive iron gate that opened slowly. The car drove up a long driveway that was lined with lanterns. At the end of the drive way was a house, it wasn’t just a house it was a palace. It was huge with sharp lines and massive windows that glowed in the night. The car suddenly stopped and a man in suit walked towards the door opening it for Valerian. He came down and walked towards my door as he opened it and I couldn’t help but stare at his stoic face with one questioned dancing at the tip of my tongue.“Who are you, Valerian?” I questioned as he led me out of the car towards his massive front doors.“Answer my question.” I whispered and he stopped for a second looking down at me, our height difference clearly evident. His mouth twitched with a smirk that didn’t

SEREIAI sat on the sidewalk, the rain coming down in a cold, steady rhythm. My hair was soaked and it’s stuck to my neck, my feet were now bare and so I felt colder than ever. The cold was nothing compared to the weight in my chest. I felt like a fool— like something Lucas and Selena had stepped on and they couldn’t even care less about me.My hands tightened around my phone as I thought about the humiliation I faced at the boutique and as I stared at my white knuckles that were wrapped around my phone. I regretted calling Valerian. Why would a man who barely knew me even come for me?I was just a girl who he had a one night stand and I trust he knew better than to entertain a weakling like me.He probably hadn't even meant the offer and it was just said to patronize me.I stood up from the wet sidewalk as I decided to find my way home when a black SUV turned the corner. It wasn’t just a car, it was a beast. It was sleek, and the windows were tinted so dark I couldn’t even see anythi

  • The Sister He Never Chose    Chapter 11

SEREIAI stood outside the glass doors of The Golden Lily staring at my own reflection. My fake leather coat was peeling off and my shoes looked chopped from years of wear. I knew I didn’t look like I belonged here in the rich side of New York. This part wasn’t for people like me but it was either this or two thousand a month at the hotel, and that isn’t even enough for me plus I had a child to take care of.I swallowed my fear and took a deep breath as I pushed the door to the boutique open. The door bell chimed softly signifying someone was here.Inside the boutique everything was white and gold, wedding dresses hung on the walls looking like expensive clouds and I couldn’t help but admire their beautiful state. My eyes met the eye of a woman with a sharp bun and even sharper eyes she watched me from across the counter with a look that told me I didn’t belong here.“What do you want?” She asked in a clipped tone as she pulled her glasses up her nose.“Good afternoon— I’m here—f-for.
