Chapter 3

Author: Myriant
Right after she said that, my hands trembled. I had been about to peel an apple with a knife, so the sharp blade cut into my fingertip, and blood gushed out.

But I did not feel any pain.

It was our house.

When we first decorated it, I had wanted to make it modern and minimalistic, but Jacob had insisted on the cream color.

Back then, I had teased him that while he might look cold and aloof, he was a princess at heart.

He had only smiled and offered no explanation.

He had never been a princess at heart. He simply had another woman in his mind.

When he saw the blood on my finger, Jacob’s expression changed, and he strode over. By force of habit, he took out a band-aid from his pocket and put it over my wound. “How could you be so careless?”

Upon seeing that, Rain put on a nostalgic smile and said, “I was always careless back then, and that was why you carried band-aids on you all the time. I can’t believe you’d still do that even after so many years have passed.”

Jacob stopped moving for a moment. He did not continue with the conversation, but he offered no retort.

As I watched him put the band-aid on my cut, my thoughts drifted back to the day we had first met.

I was wearing brand-new high heels, and my heels were a bloody mess because of the constant friction. It hurt so much that I could not walk.

Jacob had handed me a band-aid.

That kind gesture had caused me to fall in love with that seemingly aloof man. To think that I had fallen in love with a habit he had formed because of another woman.

Even more terrifying was that he still had not forgotten about the woman who gave him that habit.

I pulled my hand back and feigned calmness. “I need to go to work now. Make yourselves at home.”

Jacob checked his watch and said, “I’ll send you.”

At that moment, Rain spoke up, sounding troubled, “Jacob, I need to go to the south of the city to buy some groceries. I’m in a hurry. It’s not easy to get a cab there either. Could you send me there?”

The south of the city was the exact opposite of where my company was.

After some hesitation, Jacob gave me a regretful look. “Eve, the south of the city is too far away, and Rain isn’t familiar with the place. I’ll send her there. Could you grab a cab to your company?”

I did not give him any reply and just left.

Right after I sat down in my company, my phone vibrated.

Rain had sent me a message on WhatsApp.

Once I clicked on it, I saw the messages.

[I’m sure you saw what happened this morning.]

[I’m still in Jacob’s heart. You should wise up and just leave.]

Since I was busy with work, I did not reply.

In less than ten minutes, Rain lost her patience and sent another video over.

It was taken in the cramped space in the car. Clearly, it had been taken in secret.

First, came Rain’s choked up voice. “Jacob, I really regretted my decision back then… I missed you every single day over the years.”

Then, she suddenly drew closer to kiss Jacob while he was driving.

In the beginning, I could see a conflicted look on his face, but in less than five seconds, he grabbed the back of Rain’s head and kissed her passionately.

Rain started speaking haltingly, “Do you remember… how we did things like this… on the balcony, the abandoned washroom, and the empty classroom…?

“You didn’t have a car… Now, we can make up for our past regrets…”

As Jacob claimed her body, Rain said smugly, “Your body says that you still love me. Jacob, I’m the only one who could make you lose control this way. You still love me, don’t you?”

For a long time, Jacob did not answer. I only heard the rustle of clothes.

Just when I thought that he would not answer, I heard a faint but clear, “Yes.”

That one airy word made me tremble uncontrollably.

I closed the video and called Irene, the wedding planner. “I’d like to add a special segment for the wedding three days later.”

  • The Sleepless Snow   Chapter 9

I rented a small house with a vineyard in Tuscia. During the day, I learned how to brew wine from the farmers. In the evening, I sat on my balcony to watch the sunset. My days went by calmly. Sometimes, I would hear about Jacob and Rain from my friends back in the country. After Rain was fired, she lost her source of income, so she decided to pester Jacob and went to River Corporation every day. She lifted a sign that said: Jacob River betrayed me!She would tell any interested parties about her “tragic life”.In the beginning, Jacob’s assistant would send Rain away. Later on, he resorted to calling the police. But Rain seemed to have made up her mind. A few days after the police took her away, Rain appeared at the company again and caused such a ruckus that everyone knew about it. River Corporation’s stock market value was already hanging on for dear life. Because of what Rain did, it plummeted even further. The board of directors became even more displeased and talke

I had uploaded a post that might look like I was clearing up a misunderstanding, but I only proved that Jacob really did cheat on me. [Thank you for your concern. Due to a clash of personalities, I have broken up peacefully with Mr. Jacob River. As for the hiccup during the wedding, I hope that you won’t read too much into it.][Everyone has the right to go after their true love. I respect Mr. Jacob River’s choice and wish them a happily ever after.]After uploading the post, I turned my phone off and slept well. When I turned on my phone the next day, I saw dozens of missed calls and a string of messages. Jacob’s rage was practically burning through the screen. [What on earth do you mean by this, Eve?!][That statement does anything but clear the misunderstanding!][Answer your phone! We need to talk!][Are you really only going to be happy after ruining my life?]It was only right for me to do what I was paid for, but I was the one who decided how I wanted to do things.

As I expected, the wedding farce quickly gained traction online. The hashtag #JacobTakesAMistress trended on Twitter for a full day, and it was even the number one trending hashtag. The people online did not hold back with their criticisms. [So much for being a wealthy family. Is Jacob River publicly acknowledging a mistress now? Are morals dead?][Rain Stone wanted to have her cake and eat it too? She already boasted that she’s Jacob River’s first love, and now, she even wants to be his mistress?][Eve Niles is so cool! That counterattack was amazing!]At the same time, I received a notification from a financial news outlet. River Corporation’s shares plummeted right after the market opened. Billions were gone from its market value. I turned my phone off and leaned against my chair to rest my eyes. As I expected, Jacob soon called. I answered it calmly, and I immediately heard an exhausted but familiar voice. “Eve, the public opinion online is already affecting the comp

The moment I finished talking, the guests went into a bizarre silence. In the next second, the screen showed the words: Mistress Acknowledgement Ceremony.Underneath was a smaller string of words: Congratulations on becoming a mistress, Rain Stone. The guests could no longer control themselves. Their jeers, discussions, and sounds of shutters clicking rose. Someone even started hollering, “Congratulations on getting a mistress, Mr. River!”Rain’s face turned pale. While trembling, she pointed at the screen. “Eve, h-how dare you humiliate me like this?!”I stayed smiling, though the amusement was not reflected in my eyes. “How could you call this humiliation? Weren’t you dreaming of this? Since you want to be with Jacob, becoming his mistress helps you achieve your dream, doesn’t it?”Jacob’s expression was so dark that there were no words to describe it. He gritted his teeth and said, “Eve, stop this farce right now!”I ignored him and gave a look at the wedding emcee. Sh

“Young Love Memoirs: Reunion?”A guest read the title on the title page, and her voice was filled with puzzlement. With the microphone in hand, I continued, “That’s right. This is the continuation of Rain Stone’s novel. I wrote it myself and recorded the things they did after their reunion. You can scan the QR code on the back cover to see a video as an easter egg.”In an instant, the wedding venue was filled with the sounds of suggestive panting. Under the grand Wedding March, those sounds seemed bizarre and ridiculous. Jacob’s face was red with rage. He grabbed my wrist. “What on earth are you doing, Eve?”Before I could say anything, Rain had already run in. She was wearing a pure white gown that was even more flamboyant than my wedding dress, and she stumbled toward us. “You can’t marry her, Jacob! We’re the ones who truly love each other!”Rain’s act of crashing the wedding to elope with Jacob and the suggestive video that was still being played made the guests burst i

  • The Sleepless Snow   Chapter 4

Irene simply thought that I was planning a surprise for Jacob and agreed to it. After hanging up, I went back to work. I was about to lose my fiancé, so I could not lose my job either. Perhaps out of guilt for his infidelity, Jacob came to pick me up from work. It was something he had never done before. The moment I sat in the front passenger seat, I remembered what had happened in the car earlier. I felt my stomach churn, and I started gagging. Jacob handed a napkin to me and asked in concern, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”I waved my hand to show that I was fine. Jacob drove into the underground parking lot of our apartment complex. After he parked the car, Jacob did not immediately get out. Instead, he suddenly dragged me to the backseat, lifted my dress, and tore off my underwear. He did not even do anything to get me ready and just claimed my body. I was not ready at all, and it only hurt. I tensed up from the pain. After a few moments, he stopped movin
