Chapter 9

Author: Summer Sway
I looked at Jeremy without saying a thing, my face devoid of emotion.

Savannah, on the other hand, was calm.

She even looked smug. "I did nothing wrong! All that money was voluntarily gifted to me by Jeremy. Look, every transfer note literally says 'voluntary gift.' Why should I have to pay anything back?"

My attorney let out a snort. "Here's the catch—every cent he spent on you was taken from my client. As a manager at Sadler Group, Mr. Jeremy Saxton diverted company funds to purchase assets for a third party—that's corporate embezzlement.

"And you, Ms. Tate, still accepted it despite knowing full well the money was ill-gotten. That makes you an accomplice."

Savannah instantly paled.

She whipped her head toward Jeremy and screamed, "You said the money was a voluntary gift! You lied to me!"

Jeremy panicked, too. He suddenly dropped to his knees and prostrated himself before me. "Vi, I was wrong! I know I messed up! I met Savannah a year ago—it was a drunken mistake that happen

I was taken aback. Then, I nodded. "Yeah, I don't like him anymore.""That's good." Isaac suddenly smiled. "Because I'm going to start pursuing you."I instantly blushed, not knowing what to say.He continued, "I've liked you for a long time, you know. When your dad passed away, I flew back from overseas right away to see you. Yet, when I arrived, I saw Jeremy holding you. I heard him say he'd stay by your side and help you build Sadler Group. I saw you nod, so… I left."So, I hadn't been seeing things that day.My heart started racing; I didn't know how to respond.Isaac seemed to sense my awkwardness and smiled. "Come on, don't feel pressured. It's late. Let me take you home."…We walked out of the warehouse together. Just as we were about to get in the car, I spotted a familiar figure. Only then did I realize Jeremy had been crouching outside the warehouse door the whole time. When he saw me come out, he shot to his feet. "Vi! Can we talk, please?"I got straight into the

I just found Jeremy laughable. Everything he said right now only made me think he was stalling me from salvaging the equipment. When I saw that he was about to speak again, I didn't give him the chance. "Look, just get lost. Stay away from me. From the first time you helped her, I'd already given up on you."His eyes widened, and his lips trembled like he wanted to say something.I didn't want to hear another word, though. "Scram. Leave me alone!"With that, I turned to leave. However, Jeremy clamped down on my wrist, his voice almost pleading as he cried, "Vi, you can't do this to me! We've been together for five years! Five years!"When your father died, I was right there with you! I helped you hold up Sadler Group! And now, you want to break up with me? Doesn't that weigh down on your conscience?"I turned back to look at him, finding him ridiculous. The person who held up Sadler Group was me, not him. All these years, he'd taken a fat paycheck without making any real contrib

Everyone's eyes were filled with regret and anger as they pointed at Savannah and cursed her out."It's all your fault! You did this! Give us back our paid leave! You're a walking disaster who ruined our company benefits!"She turned ashen under the barrage and stumbled back several steps in a panic. She looked to Jeremy for help. "Jer…"However, Jeremy was still staring at me in disbelief. He clearly hadn't processed the fact that I'd just dumped him.Seeing that he was no help, Savannah turned to Isaac. "Mr. Goodwin, I'm a graduate student from a top university. Honestly, I've been fed up with a boss like Ms. Sadler—she's so arrogant, and she blatantly breaks the law!"She's not fit to run a company this large. I'm willing to jump ship to Goodwin Group. I'd be fine starting as a simple department manager. I promise to help Goodwin Group—"Isaac cut her off with a wave. He moved to stand behind me, his face devoid of emotion as he said, "Goodwin Group can't afford an 'excellent'

Jeremy and Savannah flew off the handle the moment they heard that."How can you fire us?" He lunged forward, jabbing a finger at my nose. "I've worked here for five years! You think you can just say that and make me vanish?"Savannah shrieked, "Exactly! I'm just defending my rights under the law! You're the one who violated labor laws first! Now, you're humiliated and out for revenge. I'm recording all of this. I'll show everyone online what you're really like!"I let out a cold laugh. Then, I took two documents from Rachel and held them up to the camera."This is the overtime notice, and this is the compensation notice. Triple pay, plus an extra day off—it's all spelled out in black and white."You claim I forced you to work overtime, right? Did I state anywhere in this notice that you'll be fired if you don't come back? I didn't, which means this isn't forced."I looked Savannah in the eye. "Here's my question for you. You accused me of illegally forcing overtime, of making em

Jeremy saw Isaac but showed no intention of letting me go.Isaac hurried over and shoved him aside. "What the hell are you doing?"Savannah recognized him and flung herself at him daintily. "Mr. Goodwin, you came just in time. Ms. Sadler is trying to sic a batch of water-damaged parts on you!"If you hadn't shown up, she would've already had everyone rinse the parts and pass them off as fine! Don't worry, though. I've already stopped everyone from coming back to help."Jeremy chimed in, "Mr. Goodwin, I know you and Vi grew up together, but she's really messed up this time. This batch of parts has been soaked for two whole days. They're completely unusable. "If you accept them just to save her the humiliation and later cause an accident, it's your company that'll take the hit!"The livestream chat exploded."Damn, she's so narrow-minded. She can't even handle a tiny issue like this, and she calls herself a boss?""Seriously? She should just go home, where she belongs!""With a
