The time flew by, and even though the two of them spent the night on the couch, they both woke up to the alarm going off, knowing that somewhere a few hours ago, they both nodded off. Larissa looked at him as he blinked his eyes open. She was leaned up against him. She was still in her scrubs.
“Wonderful.” She said as she looked at herself and then the time.
“Well, you are a doctor. Wearing scrubs is fine, I would assume.” He said softly as he tucked a lock behind her ear. “I guess I should get ready, though. Do you want to ride in together?”
“I should probably go in on my own. Even though I am only there for a month, I really don’t want to give anyone any things to say.” Larissa said as she looked at him.
“Meaning?” he asked as his eyes tried to read her.
“My brother work
“I am not the one who needs to grieve.” She said as she looked up to him, “You are.”“I think you have to as well.” He said as he pulled her close. She shook her head. “I think today got a little more difficult.”“For who?” she asked.“Everyone.” He said as he sighed. “Don’t worry about me, though. It will hit me later.”“Gabe.” She said. “Don’t fight it.”“Sweetheart, don’t worry about me.” He said again. When the door opened, and they moved apart quickly.“Where is Judy?” Mr. Vincent asked though he looked like he hadn’t slept either though he was not in the room when they walked in.“John was involved in the car accident last night.” Larissa said, “She wen
The day pressed on. Gabe left after the first class, but she could still feel his presence around her. It was the weirdest feeling. She went back to the office and stood outside the door after three periods. Larissa was only there to get coffee when she heard the voices coming from inside the office. She stopped and looked up. No one else was around.“This is a huge problem.” Mr. Vincent said as he sighed. He had always been the most level-headed person in the department. So to hear him like this was a surprise.“None of us can do the rest. That was always Judy’s job.” Mr. Mig, one of the lower grade science teachers, stated.“What are we going to do?” Someone else asked.Larissa knew it had to do with the incinerator and the fact they all looked so tired. Maybe she should offer again to clean it because that was the thing they must be talking about. It wouldn’t b
The darkness of the room was all around her. The smell was the same as she smelt last night but heavier. She got the mitt and opened the door, and looked in to see the coals on the bottom still glowing red. She knew she could not really go into the unit until they were out completely. She looked around in it and then saw the one thing she was hoping she wouldn’t. A bone. A long human bone. She stood there and looked into the unit some more. The people missing were now found. She had located them. Her brother and his mistress, who had been Gabe’s girlfriend. She stood there looking at the open unit and began to wonder what the hell she was supposed to do. All the things she had thought were true. All the urban legends were true as well. She was lost in her own mind.“They were a problem.” Larissa turned and heard the voice coming from the darkest part of the room. She then saw her favorite teacher take
“Are you going to tell him?” Judy asked.“No,” Larissa said as she looked at the older woman. This was someone she had admired for most of her life, and now she had just found out that she was a murderer. That she had erased people that she had deemed bad and that the people she had based her life on being like were all exactly the same. Larissa was torn. She didn’t want to be here right now. She could barely allow herself to think. “The less he knows, the better.”“You think he would tell?” Judy asked. There was something in the question that just didn’t seem right to Larissa. She really didn’t have to think about the answer, even for someone she barely knew. However, he would do the right thing no matter the cost. Larissa already knew that.“Anyone norma
“Larissa?” The man asked, and Gabe looked at him. The look in the other man’s eyes was telling on how he felt about the woman. He completely changed his whole demeanor when he saw her. Gabe could feel instantaneous jealously knowing there had to be a reason this man looked at her that way. The officer had looked at her with a soft expression. It was clear that he had feelings for her. “Hi, Jim.” She said rather plainly. There was no emotion or happiness in her voice. She had gone rather flat. Though she wanted to laugh. It was plainly obvious to see.“I’m looking For Gabriel Danner. Is he here?” Jim asked.“Right here,” Larissa said as she waved to Gabe, who was standing right next to her.“What are you doing here?” Jim asked.“Helping Judy out with a few thin
“Well, you told them,” Gabe said as he looked down at her. “That one guy really likes you.”“We have worked together on a few cases,” Larissa said as she turned into the office to get her supplies for the next class.“I mean to say he was not pleased when I said you stayed with me last night,” Gabe said. He was trying to see where she was on that fence. Did she like him as well? Gabe needed to know if there was anyone she really did like and maybe didn’t know it.“I could see that,” Larissa said. “Gabe, he may like me, but he doesn’t really know me at all. He only likes what he sees.”“What does that mean?” Gabe asked.“He is a bumbling oaf,” Larissa said, and then she turned and looked at him. “I have had to go over the same thing at least ten times with him before. It is annoying. If he is
“Are you going to tell me what is wrong?” Gabe asked her after everyone left. He was watching her closely, and he could see something was bothering her. Though whatever it was, she was trying to cover it up.“Nothing is wrong.” She said as he looked up to him. “I am just tired and last night, and everything today is just there right out in the open.”“It seems like something else, though.” He said as he took a step closer to her. She hadn’t noticed that the door to the office was now closed behind him. She could only see him right in front of her.“I am just tired.” She said as she watching him move closer step by step. “Then to add all of this with Ann, Drew, Judy, and even your family. I am normally by myself. Too many emotions on overload.”He was right in front of her, and she didn’t even know
Midnight was fast approaching as she looked at the clock for the fiftieth time in a few minutes. Her boss was looking at her through his own office, and he walked over and stood in the doorway. “You know I understand you’re probably tired from teaching. I can have someone take over your full shifts, and then you can just focus on that.” Her boss said, “The doctors all think it is a great thing to be able to go into the schools and start teaching the stuff we do.”“Thanks.” She said though she knew she couldn’t take him up on the offer. A few weeks of hardly any sleeping was something she would get used to. “But I am honestly fine.”“You are going to burn out.” The man said as she looked at her. “Then what good will you be?”“Fine, I will take half my shifts.” She said as she looked at him.
