I saw the disgusted look on my mom's face as she looked from me to Harden before fixing her eyes on me. But no glare scared me like that of Walter's.
Walter steps up from behind my mom, his arms still folded and said "Alessia, what are you doing here?"
I saw the anger in his eyes, felt it more in his voice. I quickly rose to my feet, looking down to see the poker look on Hardin's face. How does he always manage to keep cool? Nothing ever surprises him.
"Uncle..." I stuttered.
"And who is that?" My mom asked, her eyes diverted to Hardin.
Hardin stands up and speaks "I'm Hardin"
"And who are you?" She pressed.
"Mom, please," I cut her off "he's my friend"
"I think it's time for you to leave the party sweetheart" Joxer said with a mischievous smile.
I turned to look at Hardin for the last time and told him quietly "I need to go" I didn't wait for his reply before matching away towards my mom and bumping a shoulder with her as she still stood there staring at Hardin. I walked away, out of the party site and came across their parked black SUV. I angrily pulled the back door open and sat inside, anger fueling me up.
I thought Walter was supposed to on a business trip to Alaska. Why the hell is he here?! But what's more disturbing is how he, how any of them knew I was here.
My face went pale when the answer occured to me. Allen. He ratted me out. I can't believe this!
The door went open and Joxer came in. I faced forward and saw my mom sitting behind the wheel while Walter sat on the passenger side. My mom started the car and drove out onto the street, the silence thickening up with every passing minute.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Alessia?" My mom broke the silence "it's sneaking out of the house now?"
My eyes remained on the road beside me, my arms folded. I didn't wanna say anything to her, didn't have anything to say other that to remain silent.
Thankfully, she didn't say anything more than that and just drove silently. As soon as the car pulled up in front of the house, I leaped off and dashed into the house only to be stopped at the foot of the stairs by Walter's call of my name.
"Come back here" he commanded. I reluctantly turned around and stepped a few paces towards him.
Walter was the tallest and biggest of them all, and he was just as intimidating too. He was clearly the most handsome one too, Joxer was just a big joke. Allen pretty much resembled him in so many ways, except that he had eyes he probably inherited from his mother, whoever she was.
"I came home today and your mom told me you got into a fight at school" he said.
Why is that such a big deal?! What the hell is wrong with getting into a fight at school?! I wanted to scream, to say that to him but I remained silent, my head buried in front of me. Of course it's a big deal when it has to do with Patrick.
"And then I discovered you sneaked out to attend a junk party"
"It's not a junk party uncle," I replied "it's a small gathering me and my friends do"
"You could've been hurt Alessia" my mom said from behind.
"No I won't mom! You saw the place didn't you and you know the kids that go there!"
"Honey, we're just making sure you're okay" she replied.
"I am okay mom! What are you so scared about?"
"Listen kid, there's alot you don't know yet" Walter said, "you're a Winters, Alessia. That name holds a lot of reputation, people fear at the call of that name because we are hunters, which puts your life in all sort of dangers especially since I heard from your mom," he turns to my mom and Joxer "that there's a vampire in town"
I wanted to say so many things but I realized it's just gonna be pointless. All I wanna do is get out of all this family drama and get to bed.
"Now I want you to continue being a good girl, Alessia and go to school, be a good girl, okay?"
I nodded before finally looking up again.
"Off you go then" he added.
"Goodnight" I said before turning around and heading towards the stairs.
"I love you, honey" I heard my mom's voice say before I disappeared into the upper hall that led to my room.
I came across Allen, who stood with his back propped against the wall next to his bedroom door, his hands inside his jeans pockets. He turns his face around to look at me. I lifted my chin and stopped before him, letting my anger show.
"How could you, Allen?" I asked him.
"How could I what?"
Now he's gonna pretend too?
"I know you told your dad and my mom that I snuck out!"
"What? Why would I do that?"
"Exactly, why would you do that? What's your reason this time?!"
"Hold on, Leesha, I didn't do anything. I didn't tell on you and didn't even know they were coming to the beach when they all left the house"
"I know you're lying, Allen!" I insisted.
"Can you just stop?! Stop being so unbelievable! Why the fuck would I bother myself with what you choose to do with your life, huh?! What you do is non of my fucking business and it's the last thing I care about, okay?!" He screamed.
I opened my mouth to speak but nothing seemed to make sense. I saw the sadness in his eyes, saw the anger in them. And it was not because I accused him of reporting me to my mom and his father, it's because he's hurt about something. What was I thinking?
Prologue.Fierce heartbeats.Fast strides.Haggard breaths.Dripping sweats. She knew there was no turning back now. The only thing she regretted was not leaving sooner. she continued to run through the wood, torns and spikes of trees scaring her bare arms and legs. She knew her bare feet were already bleeding but she couldn't stop and couldn't care less. All she thought about, all she cared about then was the little boy running beside her.Countless times, amidst the heat of hurry, she glanced over at the poor little boy fighting to reach her strides. She had brought this all upon him. She shouldn't have involved him. He was still too young! She held onto the tender little hand of the boy,the sweats accumulated over time threatening to separate their hands but she held on tight.Smashing a twig on the floor
Chapter One.Harden.I jerked up from the seat's backrest, waking up from the nightmare that has continued to haunt me for years and into the reality as the truck made the abrupt stop in front of the large cabin like wooden-glass house, and I wondered, 'for how long?'. Every single moment I get to be away from everything around me comes that ugly nightmare that I can never get over, that night which would forever be fresh in my mind. I was so young then, yet my fragile little heart has never grown from that horrible day. Not even for a single day for a hundred years. And as I watched the house seated in front of me, I realized again how much I hated moving and Ester knew that. But after leaving New Orleans,I couldn't care less how many more times we moved and from or to where. At the front,I could hear Charlie and Ester's festive chatters as they snapped their estate car door shut behind them.Sighin
Chapter Two."That's a really beautiful name,"I replied as I took her hand in mine, amazed by it's softness and warmness "I'm Harden. I can call you Leesha right?"She doesn't reply and all I could hear was the thoughts in her mind. She was contemplating whether to say yes or no. It caused me to smile. In the end,I'm still some stranger to her anyway."Sure"she replies "you're new here right?""How did you know that?"I slowly let go of her hand."Trust me I know practically everyone around here. Especially around this quarter and your face isn't one I've seen around. I can swear I've never seen you before. Plus, you didn't know patrick. Everyone knows him""Well, you do make quite the perfect observer. You're right,I did just move here today. Although,I've been here on tours and vacations many years ago""Many years ago?" She laughs unbeliev
Chapter Three.Alessia.The Winters were known for over centuries before my existence of it's strict principles. We were known as the vampire hunters. While my great great great grandfather invented the vampire hunting system decades ago and termed himself the vampire slayer,he had left his empire in the hands of sons after sons, daughters after daughters. My grand father, Gregory Winters had left most of the family traditions to my mother who happened to be his first child and his succeeding heir. My mother was a strong woman and obviously the apple of her father's eye. While Gregory had retired from most of his work, now staying up in Denver, completely trusting this whole thing to his children,it's only right to think he's living the dream. My mother, being the first child and irrespective of gender had inherited her father's hunting empire, taking over many of his positions. My grandfat
Harden. For a hundred years I've lived with the same memory of the same event. When I close my eyes,it's the same set of eyes. When I open listen, it's the same high pitched voice I hear.Moving to places whenever people started to catch on about our secret was a thing that I always hated. But here in Fox,things suddenly seems so different. It's hard to ignore the voice inside my head that keeps whispering to me,telling me that our run is over, telling me that there's much more to find and love here, telling me my answers are all here. New Orleans had been a special place to be in and I'd stayed there for over fifty years before leaving for Tokyo.Being a vampire,we always had to be on the low, hiding from our shadows, hiding from the events of the past that haunted us, hiding from mistakes that is a constant reminder that being a vampire isn't a blessing,it's a curse. During your long li
Chapter Five. »»»Flashback««« He knew he couldn't make it,he felt his limbs go weaker and number,he felt his heart ponder within the walls of his chest, couldn't recognize his own breathing. But he ran anyway. The leaves in the woods slapped his face and bare arms as he continued to run, trying every possible way to meet the pace of his mother who ran ahead, her hand almost glued to his as he lead them through the bushes. The darkness always terrified him but he had no time to think about how dark the woods look nor how much pain his feet were experiencing. He hadn't had the time to put on his shoes when his mother pulled him out of the house. But it's been forever since they started running. He didn't think the bad guys were still coming after them. But his mother won't stop running. He wanted to tell him to stop,to tell her he'
Alessia. How stupid right? How stupid that I smile foolishly at the thought of the new guy, Harden. The instant we parted ways in school, he was all I thought about throughout the day. There's just something about him. He's strange yet so...... loveable. We've only known each other for a whole day but I think about him like we've known each other for so long. There is something about him. Something spooky, especially when I look at his eyes. The way he stares at me, the way he speaks so flirtatiously, the way he knows what to say. It's like he could read my fucking mind and know exactly what I wanna say.Walking him through the school had been a lot more fun than I'd expected and when I had to leave, it kinda stung a bit. And now I'm back home looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. But I couldn't completely ignore this eerie feeling I have about him. Sure, he's super hand
Chapter Seven. If I told Rodger that I was embarrassed of being seen walk out of his beat up truck, he'd probably think that I'm being stupid and also think that I'm hating his 'fiona' truck because there's a human girl I wanted to impress. Which is true. The instant his truck pulled up in front of the school, I cringed.Seth grabs my shoulder from the back seat and said "have a good time, bro! Don't forget to save some for me""Save what for you, dumbass?" Rodger asked, looking back to see Seth just like I did."You know...the human girls" he replied cluelessly. "What you two lookin' at me for?"Rodger looks back to the school, ignoring Seth and said "it'll be really fun to go in there and take four girls home with me"Shooting a quick glance at him, I replied "not the school, Rodger""Chill man," he turned a smirk at me "I think you found a girl and you're not telling us. And my big hunch is that she goes to thi
