Chapter 3

Autor: Ferrari
Romano was still giving orders, and the constant chatter made me so irritated that I couldn't eat a single bite.

Teresa's eyes darted between us before she suddenly burst into tears. "Selene, you haven't touched your food. Are you still angry that I'm carrying Romano's baby? If you are, you can hit me or yell at me. Just please don't bottle it up…"

"I'm not angry," I said flatly.

"I know people have been calling you a barren woman behind your back, but I really hope you don't take it to heart…"

Before I could even react, Romano slammed his cutlery onto the table with a deafening clang. "Where did you hear that? Who said it? How dare they spread filth about the Caliendo family's Donna? They must have a death wish!"

Teresa flinched. A flicker of panic crossed her face. "I-It was a long time ago. I don't even remember where I heard it from… Romano, why are you being so scary? You're making me feel sick."

She hung her head, and her shoulders heaved with practiced sobs.

After a sigh, Romano patted her shoulder. "Stop crying. It's not good for the baby."

Teresa looked up at him. "Romano… Maybe I shouldn't have come here."

"Don't be silly," Romano said gently. "I brought you here, and here you'll stay. Just focus on resting."

As I watched the two of them, a wave of nausea rolled over me. I pushed my chair back to stand up.

At that exact moment, Teresa stood up. Clutching her stomach, she wobbled toward me. "Selene… I know you hate me… I'll get on my knees. Just please don't be mad at Romano."

As she spoke, she actually started to sink toward the floor.

I didn't reach out to catch her. I knew that the second I touched her, she would fall.

Sure enough, before her knees even hit the ground, she tilted to the side with a sharp cry. "Ah!"

"Teresa!" Romano rushed over. He shoved me aside and pulled Teresa into his arms.

The force of the shove was so strong that I staggered backward several steps. My side hit the corner of the table. The pain made me gasp, and a dull ache pulsed in my lower abdomen.

My heart hammered against my ribs.

My baby…

"Teresa, are you okay?" Romano's voice was thick with panic.

Teresa clung to him. Her face was pale as tears streamed down her cheeks. "Romano… my stomach… it hurts…"

Romano turned ghostly white. He scooped her up in his arms and roared toward the hallway, "Call a doctor! Get a doctor here now!"

He sprinted out of the dining room with her in his arms. Not once did he look back at me.

After an examination, the doctor confirmed my baby was fine.

Papa was coming to get me tonight, so I carefully packed my things.

My phone buzzed. It was another message from Teresa.

"Selene, did you know? Romano's hands were shaking when he held me. He's terrified of losing my baby and me, but he isn't afraid of losing you.

"You hit the table pretty hard, didn't you? Does it hurt? It's a shame, really. There's only room for one woman by Romano's side, and that's me."

As I stared at the words, my fingers tightened around the phone.

I opened my chat with Romano. The last message was from him yesterday. "Selene, wait for me to come home."

I didn't reply.

Instead, I pulled the divorce papers from my bag, signed my name, and left them on the nightstand. I left a note beside it.

"Romano, I've signed the divorce papers. Don't come looking for me."

I changed into something comfortable, grabbed my suitcase, and walked out of the bedroom.

Addio, Brindleport.

Addio, Romano.

  • The Sperm Donation That He Regretted   Chapter 8

Selene's POVTwo years had passed. I was soaking up the sun on a park bench. It had been two years since I left the Caliendo family. I thought I'd never set foot in Brindleport again, but Papa had run into some business trouble. I came back with my son, Nicarete, to support him, and we had been here for two weeks. The sun felt wonderful. I kept my eyes closed, enjoying a rare moment of peace."Selene." The raspy voice came from right in front of me.I opened my eyes and saw Romano standing there. He had lost a significant amount of weight. His suit hung loosely off his frame. His eyes were rimmed with dark circles, and his jaw was covered in unkempt stubble. The once-formidable Don of the Caliendo family looked like a homeless man."What are you doing here?" I asked."I've been looking for you for two years." His voice trembled. "I pressured your father's business on purpose. I knew it would bring you back."I looked at him but said nothing."Selene, I know everything now.

The sound of the glass shattering against the door startled Teresa.Romano kicked the door open. Ignoring her shrieks, he began ransacking every drawer and cabinet.Teresa scrambled after him, grabbing his arm. "Romano, what are you doing? What are you looking for?"Romano shoved her aside and pulled a document from the compartment of her suitcase. It clearly bore Selene's signature, and it was dated two months ago.Romano gripped the papers. His hands were shaking violently."She signed them the day she left," he rasped. His voice was barely audible. "She left them for me… and you hid them."Teresa stood paralyzed. Her face was ashen, and her lips trembled. "Romano… I-I just—""Just what?" Romano looked up, his eyes bloodshot. "Just didn't want me to know she was leaving? Just wanted me to think she was sulking? Just wanted to tear us apart?""Because I love you!" Teresa finally screamed with tears in her eyes. "Romano, I love you! I've loved you since we were children! "Whe

The days dragged on.Teresa made herself increasingly at home in the estate, acting as if she were the lady of the house. While the household staff remained respectful on the surface, their resentment brewed in the shadows. When Selene was here, she was quiet but kind. She handed out bonuses during the holidays and never complained about the food or threw tantrums over trifles.Teresa was the opposite. She thought she could silence the staff members while playing queen, but secrets always had a way of bleeding out.One night, Romano was unable to sleep. He headed to the kitchen for a glass of water. As he passed the side hallway of the household staff quarters, he heard voices."Did you hear? Ms. Fiorino made the chef cry again today just because there was parsley in the soup.""She's got a hell of a temper. Donna Caliendo never acted like that.""Tell me about it. She was a lady through and through. Always polite and graceful. I wonder where she is now. It's been so long sinc

Romano didn't go looking for Selene. It wasn't because he didn't want to. It was because he was afraid. He was afraid she'd keep her word and vanish to some corner of the world where he'd never find her.He told himself she just needed some time alone, and he would give her that. However, Teresa didn't want Romano to give Selene "time". What she wanted was to completely sever any lingering attachment he had for Selene. The moment Romano left to handle family business, Teresa rounded up several household staff members and ordered them to clear out Selene's belongings."Move fast," she commanded. "If anyone asks, tell them Selene came back and took these things herself. Am I clear? If anyone lets the truth slip, don't blame me for what happens next."No one dared to utter a word.Once the packing was finished, Teresa had the boxes moved to the estate's basement. She didn't throw them away. If she ever needed "proof" that Selene had returned, those boxes were her evidence. Then, s

Third-person POVRomano spent the entire night at the hospital with Teresa. They didn't return home until dawn.By the time he had showered and changed, breakfast was already laid out. Teresa was seated in the lady's seat, offering him a small smile. "Morning, Romano."Romano nodded and took his seat across from her. His gaze instinctively drifted toward the stairs."Where's Selene?" he asked.Teresa's expression stiffened for a second before she smoothed it over. "Selene? I went to call her earlier, but she said she wasn't hungry and asked me not to bother her."Frowning, Romano set his cutlery down. "I'll go check on her.""Don't." Teresa stopped him. Her face was clouded with concern. "Romano, she's in a bad mood. If you go up there, it'll only upset her more. Let her be for a while. She'll come out when she's ready."Romano hesitated, then slowly sat back down.He pulled out his phone and sent Selene a text. "Selene, get up and eat something. Don't starve yourself."The m
