Ashley

“This wasn't what I was promised! I was promised the goddess incarnate! You will not take her away from me!” Elandir's volume increased with every sentence he uttered. His eyes were almost bloodshot with rage.

His jaw popped and cracked as he started the process of his transformation, voice deepening and becoming monstrous as he did so. “I was chosen by the goddess as the perfect spouse for her. You can't change that.”

Rhodan dropped his hood and looked up at the hulking form of Elandir. His eyes were narrowed, annoyed. “If you were so hell-bent on keeping her, then you should have paid more attention to her. We kept her in your care, and right under your nose, she took the child away.”

“We can always find the child, Rhodan,” Elandir said, voice level once again. He tried to appear calm, but he still remained in his half-transformed state. “Killing her is not necessary.”

“A vessel that refuses to belong to its potter, must be thrown into the fire,” said Elira. “Alyssa has been

Ashley With a jolt, I found myself on the ground before the tree. Alyssa's form still remained in the tree, just as I had found her.I scrambled up to my knees, pressing my hands against the bark of the tree, tears falling from my eyes. “Mother…” My voice broke, cut down by the weight of pain in my chest from all that I had witnessed. My father was a half-lycan, who lost his life simply because he got in the way of those elders. He had been stolen before I even had a chance to get to know him. My clenched fists punched the ground as I groaned in anguish, so upset that I couldn't even find the strength to form a different kind of sound.“No…” I sobbed, shaking my head from side to side as tears dropped freely from my eyes. It was almost difficult to breathe, especially when the images of a life past flashed through my mind. I had seen every event, felt every emotion, and suffered every pain. But unfortunately, I couldn't even change a single thing, and that was what hurt me the most.

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 142•

Ashley Nine months.Nine months of slow, torturous emptiness. Nine months of forced stillness, because if she moved, she was certain she would shatter into a million pieces.Nine months of wishing for the days to go by so that her child would be born and she would finally be able to go ahead with her final plans for freedom. If she wasn't going to find peace while alive, maybe she was going to find it when her heart was no longer beating, and blood no longer rushed through her veins. To her, life wasn't worth living anymore, and she didn't want her last memory to be spent in this unbearable silence. She wanted to see her child first, though. So that by doing so, something new and beautiful would be etched into her mind even as she drew her last breath. So when the time came to finally push out the child, she gave no resistance. She spread her knees wide and pushed with all of her heart and her might. Her screams flew over the heads of the scurrying midwives who had sweat dripping

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 141•

Ashley The Elders dropped to their knees, lifting their head up at her in awe and wonder. Who would have thought that what it would take for her to see their faces clearly was the true expression of the powers she sought to bury deep within?“The goddess…the prophecy, it's true!” exclaimed Rhodan, lifting his hands up as though to behold her. Her feet were above the ground, standing on nothing but air itself, as silver light continued to pour out of her form, bathing everything in its glow. Euphoria surged through her veins stronger than a hungry tide, pushing against barriers until all she wanted to do was remain right there, as the object of worship for them all. Now, they respected her, but wasn't it only because of her abilities? Did any of them see her as more than a weapon? As a tool for their own selfish ideals wrapped up in the promise of something altruistic? All their worship, Ashley realised, were mere lies, and they would revoke it as soon as they were once again reminde

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 140•

Ashley The cracked glass luckily didn't break any further, or Alyssa would have had more questions to answer. The tendrils of her power leaked through her pores more often when she was overwhelmed with emotions. To her own mind, she was numb, but the abilities she held could almost have been considered sentient, because of how they only ever emerged when her life seemed to be spiralling out of control. It wearied her to the bone that many people were dictating her life simply because of abilities that even she herself seldom used until it was absolutely necessary. For some reason, there was a darkness edging around the vision now. A warning that all I was witnessing through Alyssa's eyes was slowly coming to an end somehow. The vision shimmered around me, folding me into a time when Moon Peak still breathed with life and order. I was still within her skin, riding through all the pain and hopelessness she felt. She had tried so much. She had longed for bravery—to wield it like a sw

  • The Stand-In Luna   •Chapter 139•

Ashley Alyssa’s memories twisted again, with new scenes flowing like threads through a loom, stitching together a life held captive by something far greater than one person should ever be made to bear. She was brought back to the heart of Moon Peak under silent watch, the elders walking in a slow, deliberate procession around her. They didn’t speak much. Their silence carried weight, reverence… and a lot of threats. The moment she stepped through the high stone gates of the ancestral chambers, she knew something had changed. They’d given up trying to convince her to follow their plans. Now, they would force her hand. The inner sanctum was filled with relics of old: faded murals of the Moon Goddess, altars with dried herbs, bowls still slick with incense ash. The power that lingered here wasn’t just ceremonial, it thrummed beneath her skin, pulsing. Alyssa had been here many times before, but today felt different. Today, it felt like a funeral.A funeral of star-crossed hopes and drea
