Ashley

My grip tightened on my blade. Its ridges pressed into the soft flesh of my palms. Cold ran over me from the top of my head to the soles of my feet as the violent memory of Amy's loss overtook me as the rogue cackled at his discovery.

He had been one of the rogues that ambushed my team and I that terrible day. My tongue remained rooted to the bottom of my mouth in outrage, but my whole body felt ready to burst into flames.

“You . . . Bastards took my wolf from me. All for what?” Guttural and raw, my voice emerged from my throat. “All for what!”

The rogue didn't even seem phased. It was like we were discussing a simple trade. “It was nothing personal. We had orders, and we had to carry them how. You belong to a pack, you should know how it is. You can't say no to your Alpha.”

“To what end?” I muttered, steadying my stance. In the new few seconds I planned on darting forward and slashing into his neck. He was going to die if he needed to. He needed to pay.

The rogue shrugged and

AshleyJust as I'd thought, their faces were enough to send me spiraling down a pit of countless thoughts and imaginations. What if they didn't take me seriously? What if they heard my words and were disappointed? What if they didn't even allow mw to soeak before deciding that I wasn't worth their time?I rolled my shoulders and took a deep breath. Clara stood a little distance behind me, acting as both protector and support. She nodded her head a little to indicate that I could proceed. There were about three dozen people right outside the medical centre, clamouring to find out what was going on with Zane, and why no one was saying anything about the fact that he returned to the tribe all bruised and unconscious. But underneath all their questions, I could tell that many weren't really concerned. They just wanted to know if Zane was alive or dead.So I led with that. “He's alive,” I said, making my voice firm and loud. The murmuring reduced as people struggled to hear what I was sa

Ashley I stepped back a little, shaking my head. “What? What are you talking about, Zane? A few people might trust me because of the fact that I've made tinctures and medicine that helped their family member, but it doesn't mean that they'd trust me enough to put their lives in my hands.”“Trust me, it does. Even if you don't quite believe it yet.” He held out his hand again, and I took it, if a little bit hesitantly. “The people don't know how deep the change that I've gone through is, and they can't find out just yet, or things will get seriously chaotic. We need to douse the sparks first to put them off.”Resigned, I nodded. “You're right. Clara just told me the state of things, and I can't believe that there were people actually hoping you didn't return just so that they could get power to rule the Tribe.”“The Tribe runs of competition. This harmony we have? It was born from countless years of iron-fisted leadership. I need you to do that for me, even if just for a short while,

Ashley Clara and Bryce rushed to the cove, both clad in different states of shock and worry. The only difference was that as usual, Clara's face expressed little of her emotions, but it was obvious that she was shaken up.“What happened to him?” Bryce asked, already lifting a very weak Zane to his feet. The king could stand, but it took a lot of effort from him.I shook my head, heart still racing from the rush of fear that had filled me when Zane fell over after we had read the message from the stone platform. Zane's eyes had glowed, and then his whole body started shaking violently until he fell over. By the time his body had calmed down, he mentioned that some parts of him felt strange, and moving his limbs felt difficult. He must have mind-linked Clara and Bryce shortly after, because it didn't take too long for them to find us.I explained the whole ordeal to them and they both remained quiet, exchanging glances here and there.“Let's just get back to the tribe and get him rest

Ashley We had to lose Jace and Lucas somehow. They were hot on our heels, chasing as though there was no tomorrow. “Can we lose them?” I shouted into Zane's ear as we moved forward. Wind distrorted my perception of sound, making it even hard to hear myself, but I could clearly hear, and see, the two wolves chasing after us, powerful muscles flexing with every movement. I had thought that Zane's bigger size would have made him slower, but somehow, he managed to stay ahead, as though he weighed nothing. I'd never ridden a horse, but if I closed my eyes, I could imagine myself doing such. But that was not what I was supposed to be doing. We were racing against time, trying to return the Ignis Relic to its place of rest so that Zane's curse could be broken. As we rushed through the cave, I realised that it now appeared to have multiple twists and turns, unlike when I had initially gone through it. There had only been one path, a long winding path and seemed to be unending, with painted

Ashley “Jace, stop this madness,” I shouted at him when he didn't budge from our path. No matter how much I had grown to dislike him, the part lf me that watched him grow up to the man he was now still didn't want him dead. I couldn't say the same for Lucas, though. He'd always been despicable.Jace unleashed his claws, growling as his form started to shift into a superior lupine form. Either he hadn't heard me, or he just didn't want to listen. Stubborn, as always, putting his own wants above anything else. I used to admire that about him, but seeing how ruthless he had become, that admiration had turned into disdain. My hands involuntarily want to my neck, touching the scars that he'd put there. A reminder that there was no ounce of care left in his heart for me—or that he had become caught up in his own quest for revenge that he didn't recognise anything else. Both of them were bad options. Lucas followed suit, shifting as well. “No,” I whispered to myself, not because of them,

AshleyThe Axe of Destruction was not like anything I had ever imagined. The blood-red handle and chalk-white head separated it from any ax I had ever seen before. “Remarkable,” I said, still in shock and awe, releasing what it meant that we could look at the ax and possibly take it. “Yes it is. A single hit from it is rumored to instantly kill no matter where it lands,” said Zane, looking around the waterfall and stepping closer to it. “We have to find a way to bring it down.” He went to the rocks and pressed a hand against the stone. Water fell onto him immediately, pressing his hair and clothes against his skin. He stepped away from under the waterfall, looking wistfully at the ax. “The water will make it hard for me to climb, but perhaps if you stand on my shoulder, you can retrieve it.”“Alright.” I took off my bag and rolled up the legs of my pants until they were underneath my knees. Then, taking big, exaggerated strides, I walked through the shallow river over to where Zane
