Ashley

The paper shook in my hands as I read the words over and over again. I would know those words anywhere. After all, it was all I knew about for the past decade.

Every morning, afternoon and night had been plagued with reminders of the great prophecy. The same prophecy that had set this whole course of events in motion. The very reason behind why I was so brutally mistreated.

The first sentence, I knew of. But the second one appeared unfamiliar. I wasn't sure I'd seen it before. Was it by any chance the remaining portion of the prophecy that Luna Elena had obsessed about for years before her disappearance?

“A new king rises upon the land, and the Luna becomes the Goddess,” I read undee my breath, trying to make sense of it all. I couldn't find any sense in the order of the words, but maybe it was because I stood in a place filled with distracting music.

Someone touched my shoulders and I jumped, turning around as I folded the paper up into my palm and put my hands behind my ba

Ashley “The rot has spread even further. Scouts estimate that in less than a few days, it will reach our borders. The consequences are catastrophic in the neighbouring villages. Crops are dying, even animals are falling sick.” Clara's heavy news was punctuated by her rapid pacing in front of us. I had never seen her so worried. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her hair fell down her shoulders in slightly messy waves. She didn't even look like she had gotten a second of good sleep in a while. Zane told me that she and her team of scouts had been working on tracking the spread of the rot, but I didn't know just how deep their work went.“Give me a more detailed estimate,” Zane said, leaning forward in his chair with a serious look on his face. His blue eyes were slightly brighter from the lighting filtering into his study, casting a serious set of shadows along his cheekbones and underneath his neck. “Three days maximum,” she said, still pacing. “And that's if by some miracle it doesn't

JaceIt was all coming together, just like I planned. Lucas had retrieved the necklace, and now we had control of that cursed spirit, who was willing to do our bidding just to get it back. All thanks to the knowledge drawn from my mother's lost journal. How lucky I was to have come across it at such a time as this. It was almost like fate, that at my lowest, I found something to lift me higher than I had ever been before. And now, my goals were within reach.Soon, every Lycan would meet an inevitable end.A knock on my door brought me out of my early morning musings. I had been up for a long time, even before dawn started to break. It wasn't that I didn't want to sleep, it was just that the reality of things was almost so unbelievable that I spent those hours convincing myself that I hadn't gone mad. That my quest to avenge my father would finally meet success.I took a glance at the window, in no hurry to answer the door. Soft morning light had started to filter past the window cur

Ashley I slicked my hair off my face, staring at my reflection in the pool of water swirling in the sink. Things are changing once again, morphing into a shape that I didn't think I could hold on to with my hands. I wasn't even sure id I could handle this new level of weight thrust upon me.But Zane was very right. Getting back the necklace was the only option we had, no matter how dangerous it was going to be. I slipped out of the bathroom, ignoring my reflection in the mirror as I passed it by. I didn't want to see the fear that I was certain my eyes held. After our discussion in the kitchens, it was clear that neither of us was going to get any more sleep. Not when we knew that Jace was on the verge of unleashing something incredibly dangerous upon us. We had to act fast, and that meant giving up on sleep. So we spent from that till early morning trading ideas on how we could somehow infiltrate Moonlit Silver and obtain the necklace. “What if we send in Bryce to go undercover?

Ashley I woke up gasping for air. Sweat dripped down my face, and my whole body felt like it was on fire. I squeezed my eyes shut and opened them up multiple times, trying to get the images from the dream out of my mind. It seemed burned into my brain, digging deep into my skill like a drill, and refusing to let go of me.My panting must have woken Zane. He sat up swiftly, and reached for me in the dark, pulling me into his arms. His hand brushed over my back in gentle rubs as he whispered gentle comforting words into my ear. He must have assumed that I had a nightmare. “I dreamt about Katerina,” I said breathlessly, clinging to him for strength. “About how she died and why she's the cursed spirit we now know.”“Are you okay?” he asked softly. In the dim lighting, I could feel him watching me. I was grateful that he didn't try to make me feel like I was crazy, and simply accepted my story.“You believe me?”“You have no reason to lie, Ashley, and it's not the first time you're havin

Ashley “Why are we here?” I asked the spirit, looking around the new environment we had found ourselves in. The air was still—I couldn't exactly feel anything on my skin. I could only see and talk. The spirit, who now looked more like a human, walked in front of me, feet bare and pale, crunching grass underneath. Her long, dark hair gently bobbed with a breeze I still couldn't feel but witnessed. The black pools that had been her eyes dissolved into bright jade orbs. “We are here because you must understand before you can release me,” she said, voice soft like a haunting echo. “That's the only way you can successfully free me.”I shook my head, digging my hands into my hips. The lightness of my form unsettled me. Was this how it felt to be a ghost? To be unable to feel anything brush against your own skin? “I never said I was going to help you.”She paused mid-stride, slowly turning her head to face me. “You will.” Her foot, which was angled in such a way that only the balls of her

Ashley “The Cursed Spirit of the Old Woods can be freed?” Zane didn't look like he quite believed my words. There was an disbelieving gleam in his eyes and he had a brow quirked up inquisitively. “How come she was even able to communicate that to you? What we've been told all these years was that she was just bloodthirsty.”“Well, history can be very wrong. You mentioned that something had changed in the woods, didn't you? That might have been what triggered all these changes too.” I settled down in front of my dresser, drying off my hair with a towel. I paused and rolled my neck, trying to ease the sore muscles there. The past day had been a whole adventure. I still couldn't believe just how many things had occurred in so little time. The hours had winded longer than weeks. I kneaded my fingers into the sore flesh, pressing deep until I found the knots that needed loosening. The cursed spirit was just one issue on ground, I was still trying to understand how it was possible to sti
