Ashley

She spoke to Zane with so much familiarity. Had theybeen merely friends, or something more? The way she communicated woth him kept throwing me off, and I didn't know of I even still had any balance or footing at all.

But Zane seemed very comfortable with her behaviour. In fact, one could almost say that he had expected her to say such things. He didn't bother to give her an answer, but the cold look in his eyes was warning enough for anyone.

The others behind her fanned out, as though her words had stirred something in them. Before, they had been so quiet, merely additions to the background, but at that moment, they too had picked up an interest in me.

A tall man, the tallest of the group, walked up to me and took my hand in his without warning, kissing it almost sensually. “My, my, what a lovely creature you are,” he drawled in a unique accent that made his words slightly roll into each other.

He was incredibly handsome, with thick, lashes, tanned skin, and dimples on his c

JaceIt was all coming together, just like I planned. Lucas had retrieved the necklace, and now we had control of that cursed spirit, who was willing to do our bidding just to get it back. All thanks to the knowledge drawn from my mother's lost journal. How lucky I was to have come across it at such a time as this. It was almost like fate, that at my lowest, I found something to lift me higher than I had ever been before. And now, my goals were within reach.Soon, every Lycan would meet an inevitable end.A knock on my door brought me out of my early morning musings. I had been up for a long time, even before dawn started to break. It wasn't that I didn't want to sleep, it was just that the reality of things was almost so unbelievable that I spent those hours convincing myself that I hadn't gone mad. That my quest to avenge my father would finally meet success.I took a glance at the window, in no hurry to answer the door. Soft morning light had started to filter past the window cur

Ashley I slicked my hair off my face, staring at my reflection in the pool of water swirling in the sink. Things are changing once again, morphing into a shape that I didn't think I could hold on to with my hands. I wasn't even sure id I could handle this new level of weight thrust upon me.But Zane was very right. Getting back the necklace was the only option we had, no matter how dangerous it was going to be. I slipped out of the bathroom, ignoring my reflection in the mirror as I passed it by. I didn't want to see the fear that I was certain my eyes held. After our discussion in the kitchens, it was clear that neither of us was going to get any more sleep. Not when we knew that Jace was on the verge of unleashing something incredibly dangerous upon us. We had to act fast, and that meant giving up on sleep. So we spent from that till early morning trading ideas on how we could somehow infiltrate Moonlit Silver and obtain the necklace. “What if we send in Bryce to go undercover?

Ashley I woke up gasping for air. Sweat dripped down my face, and my whole body felt like it was on fire. I squeezed my eyes shut and opened them up multiple times, trying to get the images from the dream out of my mind. It seemed burned into my brain, digging deep into my skill like a drill, and refusing to let go of me.My panting must have woken Zane. He sat up swiftly, and reached for me in the dark, pulling me into his arms. His hand brushed over my back in gentle rubs as he whispered gentle comforting words into my ear. He must have assumed that I had a nightmare. “I dreamt about Katerina,” I said breathlessly, clinging to him for strength. “About how she died and why she's the cursed spirit we now know.”“Are you okay?” he asked softly. In the dim lighting, I could feel him watching me. I was grateful that he didn't try to make me feel like I was crazy, and simply accepted my story.“You believe me?”“You have no reason to lie, Ashley, and it's not the first time you're havin

Ashley “Why are we here?” I asked the spirit, looking around the new environment we had found ourselves in. The air was still—I couldn't exactly feel anything on my skin. I could only see and talk. The spirit, who now looked more like a human, walked in front of me, feet bare and pale, crunching grass underneath. Her long, dark hair gently bobbed with a breeze I still couldn't feel but witnessed. The black pools that had been her eyes dissolved into bright jade orbs. “We are here because you must understand before you can release me,” she said, voice soft like a haunting echo. “That's the only way you can successfully free me.”I shook my head, digging my hands into my hips. The lightness of my form unsettled me. Was this how it felt to be a ghost? To be unable to feel anything brush against your own skin? “I never said I was going to help you.”She paused mid-stride, slowly turning her head to face me. “You will.” Her foot, which was angled in such a way that only the balls of her

Ashley “The Cursed Spirit of the Old Woods can be freed?” Zane didn't look like he quite believed my words. There was an disbelieving gleam in his eyes and he had a brow quirked up inquisitively. “How come she was even able to communicate that to you? What we've been told all these years was that she was just bloodthirsty.”“Well, history can be very wrong. You mentioned that something had changed in the woods, didn't you? That might have been what triggered all these changes too.” I settled down in front of my dresser, drying off my hair with a towel. I paused and rolled my neck, trying to ease the sore muscles there. The past day had been a whole adventure. I still couldn't believe just how many things had occurred in so little time. The hours had winded longer than weeks. I kneaded my fingers into the sore flesh, pressing deep until I found the knots that needed loosening. The cursed spirit was just one issue on ground, I was still trying to understand how it was possible to sti

Ashley “We've heard the stories. Passed on the myths for generations, but never did we think that they could actually have been true,” said the old woman, whose name I'd come to know as Faye. She stroked the heads of her still trembling granddaughters. “Now that you are here, we can only ask that you spare us for our ignorance.”I stood, and dusted the legs of my pants, using the opportunity to gather my thoughts so that they didn't come out sounding wrong, or all convoluted. “We are not here to hurt anyone. We only came to help.” I pointed to the corpses of the bandits around us. “These men are the only true enemies here, and now they are no more.”“There's nothing stopping you from killing us like you did them,” someone angrily said from the crowd. A balding man with a missing incisor on his upper left jaw.“Those bandits were evil, but as long as we gave them what they were due, they left us well alone. Now that you've killed them all, they will retaliate and burn down this littl
