I could ignore it. Swirl the steering wheel and drive as fast I could.

I should ignore it. I shouldn't give a flying fuck if Ace Reynolds died or not. Wasn't that what I wanted in the last 24 hours?

For him to at least, die an untimely death so I could leave the hell hole called marriage?

However, I chose to remain in the parking lot. I chose to wait for Ace.

My heart prayed that he made it out instead of the other way around.

I pressed my palm together, foolishly praying that Jasper doesn't get him instead of planting those palms on the wheel and escaping Ace for once and for good.

If Ace finally does any of those things expected of him as a ruthless mafia Don, I have myself to blame. It was I who saw an escape route and chose to ignore it.

Finally, Ace Reynolds bursted out through the back door. Unscathed and breathing fine.

It didn't look like he arrived from a building where bullets were flying around.

Who was this man?

Though, his shirt was stained but, I doubt the blood was hi

He wasn't breathing. His chest wasn't heaving. His body was stiff. My fingers trembled as they brushed underneath his nostrils to confirm again he was indeed not breathing. My first move was to reach for my phone to dial the emergency line. But, as I was just about to press the red “dial” button, a thought, vile and wicked, crossed my mind. What if I left him dead? Wouldn't it be easier to move on with my life and pretend we didn't happen? It was yet another chance to escape this hell hole. He wasn't breathing which meant if he was not placed on an oxygen bag in the next one hour, he would die.The thought of that made my heart skip.It seems heaven heard my prayers, presenting me with so many opportunities like this. And, out of all opportunities, this was the easiest. No one would come looking for me. I would need not to hide from anyone. It was liberation. A breath of fresh air. However, a few hours later, I found myself driving to the nearest hospital, Ace Reynolds unconscious b

I flipped my eyes open to a dark room and tired to a chair at the center of that room.It was minuscule with only a bulb hanging low above my end illuminating the room and a medium-sized table sat beside the chair I was tied to.My head still hurt from the assault earlier and I could barely manage to sit up and properly take in my surroundings. It looked like an investigation room however, it wouldn't be with both of my hands tied to the chair. I was abducted. Definitely.Few minutes later, a man, looking over 50 in casual wear, strolled in.He brought a seat along, positioned it before me and settled on it.I raised a brow at him, anticipating an explanation on why the hell I was abducted. The man said nothing and just took out a cigarette and a lighter, lit the cigarette and took a drag.“What the hell is happening? Who are you?”I finally voiced out, my voice hoarse. Had I been unconscious for long? The room was dark and had no window, I couldn't tell if it was already day or if

“I want you to fuck me.”A constant reminder of last night had me flipping my eyes open, ignoring the bang in my head and jerking to a sitting position on the king-sized bed.I was back at the hotel we were lodged into before I heard Ace collapse and was forced to rush him to the hospital.Ace wasn't on the bed with him, he wasn't in the room, he wasn't in the restroom.Thank goodness. Now, let's constitute a plan on how to avoid him because no way in burning hell will I face him after spewing that shit last night.I knew it was incense. It had to be that crazy thing!I've heard a lot of things regarding how the incense not only hypnotizes you but also forces you to say things you do not want to say or do things you do not want to do.But, this wasn't my expectation. Why would I want to have sex with Ace? I literally wanted him dead about 48 hours later? It made absolutely zero sense that I would want him to top him.It was the incense talking, I reminded myself. It wasn't the real me

My lips parted in shock.“W-what?”The shock I felt couldn't contain my voice. We did not one but a third round? And, what? I initiated it?No, this bastard could be lying. He was a murderer and a manipulator, what was lying that couldn't be added to his list of crimes?“I-I know you are lying! Don't think I’d be stupid to believe any lies you cook up!”“Oh baby, you have no idea what we cooked up last night.”Ace smirked, pinning his hot and needy gaze on mine.He is lying, he is fooling you, I kept reminding myself.“W-what do you mean?”Ace suddenly moved closer to him, dangerously barely sparing me breathing space as he regarded my gaze.“I won't share the details with you but, all I would tell you is that we were on this couch and you gave me the best ride of my life.”He brought his fingers to smoothly caress my face.“All along I thought you were 18 and inexperienced but, you did meet me with a great surprise. Let's do more of that in the future - surprise.”Ace leaned closer,

I took the antidote as suggested by Ace and soon enough, I laid back against the fluffiness of the king-sized bed and my weak eyes drifted off to sleep. The minute I woke up, the tired sun retiring into the depth of the sky in it’s orange hue, every memory from last night, in HDs, refreshed in my head.I did ask him to have sex with him. No, I begged. He didn't want it to happen since he suspected it was the incense doing the asking but, I begged him. I threw myself at him like a freaking whore.Damn me! And, damn him for making him throw myself at him the slightest opportunity I had. Tears rolled down my eyes. Fucking hell! All I wanted was to end this terror of a marriage because I couldn't stand the sight of him but somehow, I had sex with him, letting him take my virginity like it was nothing to me.Last night will surely replace my wedding with Ace as the worst day of my life.~ 20 HOURS AGO ~{Warning: Explicit sc

We didn't have sex. My virginity wasn't broken. Yet, I let a stream of tears roll down my face after I had revisited the memories. We didn't do anything but, I still threw myself at him. The only reason we did nothing was because Ace didn't want to. He probably wanted to use that fact to hunt and mock me.For my slutty act and for my desperation. He would mention, everytime he had the chance, that I had begged him to have sex with me. It was incense. I know it was the incense but I still did it anyway. The did had been done. Incense or no incense. I threw myself at the man that abducted my sister, his supposed bride, forced me into a loveless marriage and killed my boyfriend’s brother. It made me feel so filthy.Ace stepped out. And I stayed glued to the bed throughout the evening, staring into the ceiling and letting even more tears leave my eyes as I kept recalling my pathetic attempt at having Ace sleep with me last night.I also thought about how I was going to face him. How w

My world went crumbling at once. To confirm the news, I let my trembling fingers type it's way to the internet. I put his name in the search bar and thousands of articles presented themselves. The exact headline. Dad had truly passed away. The article said he was found dead a few minutes ago. Probably several minutes after we spoke. I still had time to save him. There was still time to save him but I did nothing. I folded my arms and allowed it to happen like a spineless fool. I couldn't cry. I didn't have the right to cry. It could have been avoided but I chose to avoid it. When Ace arrived, I was glued to the corner of the bedroom, trapping my head in between my legs, staring blankly at the floor. Ace said nothing. He already knew. Of course he does. Infact, he was at the crime scene. He was the one that did whatever happened to dad and rendered me fatherless. I should lurch at him. Fight and hit him. Confront him for his cruelty and wickedness. How can a human b

I pressed my ear closely into the door to pick up the conversation; however, a voice downstairs interrupted me. A familiar voice. I walked away from Isobel’s bedroom door and peeked downstairs, placing my hand gently on the railings. It was who I thought it was. Valerie. Valerie wore a beautiful, black mini gown and she had her jet-black hair up in a ponytail style. She looked gorgeous and I've missed her so fucking much. She was speaking to Aunt Quinn, smiling sweetly at something she said. Breaking the rules of never going downstairs till the funeral was over, I marched down the stairs, rushing over to Valerie and immediately wrapping my hands around her when I was within reach. She hugged me back, circling her hand around my waist. We've not seen each other for a week but it felt like years. “I’ve missed you so much.”

Chaos erupted like a gunshot in the dead of night. The moment Dawson lunged forward, a switch flipped, and the warehouse became a battlefield. Shadows moved, bodies collided, and the sharp echo of fists meeting flesh filled the space.I barely had time to react before Ace grabbed my wrist, yanking me back against him. “Stay close,” he murmured, his breath hot against my ear.Valerie’s panicked voice rang out, “This is so much worse than I thought it’d be!”Esther, ever the professional, sidestepped an attacker and slammed her knee into his stomach. “Then stop talking and do something useful.”Julia remained still, her smirk never faltering as the chaos unfolded around her. She was watching—assessing. Like a queen seated on a throne, waiting to see if her kingdom would fall or flourish. Her gaze met mine, and she lifted her chin. “Brielle.” Her voice was calm, almost amused. “I don’t know why you’re fighting so hard. This is inevitable.”I clenched my fists. “You’re delusional.”She ar

I barely felt the cold night air as I stormed out of Julia’s mansion. My mind was spinning, my chest tight. Ace’s words played on repeat—I’m not leaving. It didn’t make sense.Dawson walked beside me, silent but radiating frustration. Esther trailed a few steps behind, muttering curses under her breath. The second we reached the car, I turned on my heel. “Did you see his face?” My voice came out sharper than I intended. “He was lying.”Dawson yanked open the car door. “Yeah, no shit.”Esther leaned against the hood. “He looked drugged. Or hypnotized. Or—” she waved a hand, “—something unnatural.”I crossed my arms. “Julia did something to him.”“She’s always doing something,” Dawson muttered.Esther frowned. “It wasn’t just Julia. There was hesitation. Like he wanted to say something but couldn’t.”That made my stomach twist. “Then we have to get him out of there.”Dawson rubbed his temples. “We will, but we can’t charge in blind.”I clenched my fists. “We don’t have time to be carefu

I gripped the steering wheel tightly as Dawson sat in the passenger seat beside me, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. Esther was in the backseat, tapping impatiently on her phone. The tension in the car was thick, suffocating even. None of us wanted to admit what we were all thinking—if Julia had Ace, then we were already too late. But I refused to accept that.“We’re checking the bar first,” I said, breaking the silence. My voice was steadier than I felt.Dawson exhaled sharply. “You think she took him from there?”“Where else would he have been?” I shot back, gripping the wheel tighter. “He wouldn’t just disappear without a fight. Something had to have happened after I left.”Esther hummed from the back. “I still think we should be looking at Julia’s new husband’s place. The Nightwind Mafia has the resources to keep Ace locked up.”I clenched my jaw. “We’ll get there. But first, the bar.”No one argued after that.---The bar was nearly empty when we arrived, a few scattered patrons

I knew exactly where to find him.The bar was dimly lit, the scent of whiskey and leather thick in the air. Shadows stretched long across the room, the low hum of conversation buzzing in the background. Ace was where he always was—behind the bar, half a glass of bourbon in his hand, watching the room with that sharp, unreadable gaze. His eyes flickered to mine the moment I stepped inside, and for a second, I hesitated.I wasn’t sure why I had come. Maybe it was the way he got under my skin, the way he always seemed to know what I was thinking before I even said it. Or maybe I just needed something—something real, something solid—when everything else felt like it was slipping through my fingers.Ace didn’t say a word as I approached. He just lifted his glass, took a slow sip, and watched me over the rim.“You’re late,” he finally said.“I wasn’t aware we had an appointment,” I shot back, sliding onto the barstool in front of him.His lips curved slightly, but it wasn’t a smile. “You al

I wasn’t supposed to be here. That much was obvious. The hallway was dimly lit, the faint golden glow from the sconces casting long shadows against the polished wood. My footsteps had been light, careful, every nerve in my body telling me to turn around and go back. But then I heard them.Dawson’s voice, low and edged with something unfamiliar. Isobel's softer, more vulnerable than I’d ever heard before.I knew I should leave. This wasn’t my business. But I stayed.Pressing my back against the wall, I positioned myself near the slightly open door, the gap just wide enough for their voices to slip through.“I can’t do this,” Isobel whispered. “I keep telling myself that, but then…”Dawson let out a slow exhale. “Then what?”“Then I see you,” she admitted, her voice barely above a breath. “And everything I try to bury comes back.”A silence stretched between them, thick and charged.“You think I don’t feel the same way?” Dawson’s voice was lower now, almost dangerous in its intensity.I

The bar was loud. Not the kind of loud where music drowns out everything else, but the kind where voices and laughter blend into a constant hum of chaos.I swirled my drink in my hand, watching the ice melt into the amber liquid. I hadn’t taken more than a sip, too distracted by the whirlwind of thoughts in my head.Isobel nudged me with her elbow. “You’ve been quiet.”“I’m always quiet,” I muttered. She smirked. “No, you’re brooding. There’s a difference.”Valerie, sitting across from us, leaned in, her curls bouncing slightly as she lowered her voice. “I… think she’s still thinking about what happened earlier.”My stomach tightened. “I’m not.”Isobel scoffed. “You so are.” She drummed her fingers on the table. “It’s written all over your face. And honestly? I get it. I’d be thinking about it too.”I shot her a glare. “Could we not?”Isobel grinned, completely unbothered by my tone. “Oh, come on. It was kind of hot.”Valerie nearly choked on her drink. “Isobel.”“What?” Isobel shrugg

The moment the door clicked shut behind Isobel, I let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. I had spent the last hour staring at my sister, searching for any trace of the girl I once knew. She was here, she was alive, but something was off. I could feel it. And the worst part? No one else seemed to care. I paced the room, my fingers tightening into fists as I tried to make sense of it all. Ace was seated in the armchair by the fireplace, watching me with that infuriatingly calm expression. “You’re going to wear a hole in the floor,” he murmured. I shot him a glare. “And you’re just going to sit there like nothing happened?” Ace tilted his head. “What do you expect me to do, Brielle? Interrogate her the second she walks in the door?” “Yes!” I snapped. “That’s exactly what I expect! She was missing for months, Ace. And now she’s just back, no explanation?”

The next morning, I woke up with a pounding headache and the weight of last night still pressing down on my chest. I barely remembered falling asleep, but I knew it wasn’t peaceful. When I finally dragged myself out of bed and made my way downstairs, the house was already buzzing with movement. In the kitchen, Valerie was sitting at the counter, scrolling through her phone. She looked up when I walked in, her brow furrowing."You look worse than yesterday," she said, pushing a cup of coffee toward me."Thanks," I muttered, taking it."Did you even sleep?""Not really."She sighed. "Ace again?"I gave her a pointed look. "When is it not Ace?"Before she could respond, footsteps echoed down the hall. Esther strolled in, her sharp eyes flicking between us."You look like shit," she said bluntly.I scowled. "Wow, thanks. That really helps."She smirked, leaning against the counter. "I hear Ace has you on lockdown."I groaned. "Of course you heard. He acts like I'm a damn prisoner.""You b
