Chapter 4

Author: Mohini
At the cemetery, countless camera flashes were aimed at me, instantly dragging me back to that moment of utter humiliation.

I curled into a ball, not daring to look at my parents' headstones, and bit the inside of my cheek until it bled.

Like a walking corpse, I read from the , "I willingly posed for those intimate photos. I planned to use my body to create buzz for the competition, but it backfired, and I ended up getting my own parents killed..."

Scott stood off to the side, his furrowed brow still not relaxing.

Kelsey, meanwhile, showed off the medal around her neck, unable to hide the smug gleam in her eyes.

The moment I finished reading the whole , the onlookers swarmed me in a frenzy.

"She's the slut, and she still tried to pin it on someone else. Shameless!"

"Those photos of hers are already all over the internet. She got what she wanted. Now she can go viral!"

"You'd never guess it. The dignified Mrs. Brophy is that loose in private. I saw the photos. She's a D cup at least!"

...

They stuck those photos onto my parents' headstones, spewing insults nonstop.

I tried to rush over and stop them, but the bodyguards held me down firmly.

Scott hesitated for a moment, but he still held back the urge to step forward. "It's just a few videos for the reporters. Once they're done filming, we'll clean everything up.

"I've already compromised this much. As Mrs. Brophy, you need to keep up appearances from now on."

With that, he stepped aside to take a phone call.

The moment he walked away, Kelsey showed her true colors. She leaned in and lowered her voice, "I've seen every single one of your photos. Sometimes Scott and I even use them to get in the mood.

"Too bad your parents didn't see it that way. When they were driving over to watch your competition, I was kind enough to send them those photos to enjoy. Who knew they'd get such a fright that they'd crash straight into a truck?"

Kelsey's twisted face loomed larger and larger before my eyes.

I couldn't take it anymore. I raised my hand, about to slap her.

The next second, Scott shoved me aside.

"Jennifer, how dare you hit her?! Kelsey has backed down again and again and never held anything against you. You've gone completely insane!"

I was almost out of strength. "She's the reason my parents got into that car accident!"

Scott froze, and Kelsey suddenly cried out in pain. "Mrs. Brophy hit me. It hurts so much..."

Without a moment's hesitation, he scooped her up and left.

The instant their car pulled away, the burly men started smashing up the graves like madmen. In just a few swings, the headstones were shattered to pieces.

I lost control and threw myself at them, taking a shovel blow squarely across my back. "Please, stop! Don't smash them anymore!"

One of them kicked me away hard, and it felt like my insides had been crushed.

But the more I struggled, the harder they pinned me to the ground.

I could only watch helplessly as the two headstones turned to rubble. I had no idea where their memorial portraits had even flown off to.

Today was supposed to be the anniversary of my parents' deaths...

They dug my parents' urns out of the graves, scooped out the ashes, and shoved them into my mouth. "Ms. Rowe's orders. You're going to eat all of this, and you're not leaving until it's gone!"

Ashes scattered everywhere, clogging my mouth and nose.

I thrashed desperately, crying so hard my eyes burned. "Mmph... Let go of me! Leave me their ashes!"

Then, out of nowhere, a rock came smashing down on my head.

Something cold trickled down my neck, and my world went completely dark.

When Scott found out Kelsey wasn't actually hurt, he couldn't help feeling irritated.

"But it really did hurt just now..." she whined.

Ignoring her coy act, he grabbed his keys and rushed back to the cemetery as fast as he could.

But the moment he stepped through the cemetery gates, the sight before him drained all the color from his face.

"What do you take our relationship for? Something you can just throw away whenever you feel like it? And what do you take me for?!" Scott yelled.Seeing him so angry and defensive, I couldn't help finding it funny. I shot back, "Have you ever stopped to think about what you took me for?"Scott's breath caught, and he was left speechless. If he'd truly cherished our relationship, he wouldn't have cheated so easily. He certainly wouldn't have hired people to take intimate photos of me and used them to threaten me out of entering the competition. He'd done all of it just so Kelsey could win a competition. After a long pause, Scott softened his voice. "Jennifer, I never said I didn't love you anymore, and I never meant to hurt you. I just wanted to vent, and I lost control and let you see...""So it doesn't count as long as I don't see it?" I cut him off with a bitter smile. He and Kelsey had known each other for a long time.Back then, Kelsey was just an intern at the company, ye

The rock slammed into the back of my head, and my world went completely dark. When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed.A doctor walked over. "Miss, if the cemetery caretaker hadn't brought you in, I'm afraid things could have ended very badly."Overwhelmed with gratitude, I gave the old man all the cash I had on me. "Thank you so much."The caretaker sighed. "If Ms. Rowe hadn't deliberately sent me away, none of this might have happened... Take good care of yourself."As I lay in the hospital bed, everything that had just happened played out vividly in my mind.I hadn't been able to protect my parents' graves. I'd let them suffer every kind of humiliation on the anniversary of their deaths. And then there was the piano. Just like my relationship with Scott, it had been tainted, and it could never be washed clean again.During the days I spent recovering in the hospital, messages from Scott kept coming in on my phone. He was still taunting me, testing to see how I'd

Scott's head started buzzing. It took him a long time to get any words out. "Wh... What?"The man on the other end explained, "Didn't you have Ms. Rowe pass along the order to smash the cemetery? And tell us to teach that woman a good lesson?"He grew more and more smug as he went on. "I shoved all her parents' ashes into her mouth. Then she started screaming way too loud, so I knocked her out with a rock. She probably didn't make it."In an instant, Scott felt as if he'd been struck by lightning. "When did I ever say anything like that?! Besides, Jennifer is my wife. How could I possibly...!"Hearing this, the man on the other end panicked and hung up.Scott gripped his phone tightly, his mind completely blank. "Kelsey..."He rushed back to the lounge as fast as he could and kicked the door open with a bang.Kelsey was lying on the bed, resting. When she saw him, she bounced over and wrapped her arms around his waist, looking extremely pleased with herself. "Mr. Brophy, you

"How... how did this happen?" Scott backed away step by step, unable to believe what he was seeing. Both headstones had been reduced to rubble. Even the urns had been dug up, their ashes strewn everywhere.Even more horrifying was the blood splattered across the ground, so vivid it made his heart race."...Jennifer."His first thought was of her. He hurriedly pulled out his phone and called her.He prayed she would pick up, but all he got was a cold, robotic female voice."The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later..."The beeping on the line only made him panic more.Just as he was about to head out and search for her, Kelsey caught up to him. "Scott, why'd you just leave without a word?"She glanced at the wreckage in the cemetery and blinked. "I know it's not my place to say, but if you keep spoiling Mrs. Brophy, she'll only become more unreasonable. I can't stand seeing you humiliated like this...""What?" Scott looked a little confused.
