Chapter 6

Isabella

"It's the Alpha's instruction," Duke calmly said before he turned around and went back to the Alpha's office. Blevine turned to me and her sweet smile returned.

"I think you should rest. We can go shopping after training tomorrow," she suggested while she led me upstairs. I had mixed feelings about everything. Blevine was good to me. The Alpha saved me. I'm I a bad person by pretending to have amnesia? What about my kingdom? Also, I couldn't stop thinking about why the Alpha would let me sleep in the room next to his. My late father would never let a stranger so close to his room, not even important guests. The guest room was the best he would offer.

"This is your room. The first one is the Alpha's and mine is directly opposite yours. I will prepare something for us to eat while you familiarize yourself with your new environment." She turned around and went downstairs. I would have loved to help her but I don't know anything about cooking and didn't want to embarrass myself. I turned the knob and entered the room.  It was large and everything looked remarkable except they were all in white. I never liked the white decor in rooms but since this was temporary, I would have to adjust. From the way the Alpha saved me and later comforted me, I believe my mission will be accomplished in no time. I just have to fight the fears that engulf me with his intimidating aura.

When my thoughts shifted to what happened in his office a few minutes ago, I found my face turning red for the first time in front of the large mirror. I laid on the Queen size bed in deep thought. About sixty minutes later, I was almost drifting to sleep when I heard a knock on the door and before I answered, the door swung open. The aroma from the food engulfed me. It was chicken soup with rice.

"Thank you," I said to Blevine when she brought a table beside the bed and kept the food on it.

"No need for that." She politely responded. We spoke as we ate. I didn't know that my behaviour would give me away so easily.

"The way you speak, your regal way of walking and the way you carry yourself seems royal," Blevine analyzed to my awe. Maybe she hadn't noticed but my fingers tightened around my spoon uncomfortably and I felt blood drain from my face but she just continued to eat while her analysis proceeded.

"You are not as pale as the vampires and you don't thirst for blood, do you?" She glanced at me and continued to eat. The mages and vampires were the only ones separated by kingdoms in the underworld. Therefore, my discomfort veered and I began to feel it was natural for Blevine's thought to veer in that direction. Still, it could also be a big problem because their investigations could focus on these two kingdoms. I only hope Prince Marcus has done the needful to cover my back.

"No," I said almost instantly.

"Then you might be a mage," Blevine continued to prob, as her eyes rolled back from time to time and I knew the mind linking thing was ongoing. Only this time, I couldn't tell who she was talking to. Be it the Alpha or Duke.  I feel comfortable around Blevine because I know she only means well but Prince Marcus should have told me that the werewolves were also cunning.

"Have you discovered anything strange? Like you have powers to do extraordinary things?" Blevine asked again, bringing me back to the subject.

I shook my head, "No."

Blevin had a satisfied look on her face. "The mages were our strongest opponent during the battle. If our Alpha hadn't taken it upon himself to face their King, the Moon Star Pack warriors would have all died by now," she said to my horror. I froze and the spoon fell from my hand.

"Are you alright?" She looked disturbed but I was even more dumbfounded, I found myself responding,

"Yes, I'm fine. I was just surprised something like that happened. So, are you able to locate the whereabouts of all strangers?" I fought to hide the shiver in my voice.

"Yes but most of them swear allegiance and stay here. For instance, I'm a hybrid. Half-vampire and half werewolf. My late father was an Alpha in one of the packs Alpha Jade conquered. He killed my father and took his subjects. But I swore allegiance to stay here when I found my mate, the beta.

It used to be very peaceful until that ridiculous battle for power and supremacy distorted the peace. But the Supreme Alpha has assured us that everything will be fine again. We just have to endure a little."

My interest piqued, hearing her version of the story. "Do you mean you don't fancy the title?" I was in shock because my late father died because of it and Prince Marcus will do anything for it but here, they don't even value what they have.

"Yes, the title has led to so much bloodshed and our Alpha has sacrificed so much since the beginning, to give us a comfortable life. He is trying to come to a peace treaty among all the races in the underworld but it's not easy because everyone wants power," she swallowed and continued,

"Whoever carries the title of supremacy has the right to veto power on all races but the Supreme Alpha doesn't want that. He wants everyone's opinion to matter which only brings war but we are always ready. We train very hard," Blevine ended with a dark determination.

"Does everyone have to train?" I asked, secretly fearing what will become of me. I have never been subjected to anything physical.

"Yes. Everyone must be capable of defending themselves but those who see more of the training are the warriors. We sometimes join them for our good. As a pack Doctor, I've seen a lot of brutalities lashed on the weak ones. We can join them tomorrow. That section is handled by the Supreme Alpha himself so you don't have to join if you are not ready," Blevins' voice shook at the last part.

I couldn't help but feel terrible. "What do you mean by, if I am not ready?" I asked after some time.

Blevine stared at me silently. Her features darkened and with a cold curt tone, she let out, "his ways are ruthless."
