Emmy extended her finger. "Then let's pinky promise."

Jade was momentarily stunned before extending her finger and hooking pinkies with Emmy. They even sealed it with their thumbs, and only then did Emmy feel at ease enough to go to sleep.

After Hunter and Jade exited Emmy's room, he brought her to the living room, and they sat on the couch.

"Jade, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, Emmy wouldn't be smiling so happily," Hunter said, his words implying a deeper meaning.

Jade patiently listened, sensing that Hunter had more to say to her.

"How did Emmy injure her leg? Do you mind telling me?" Jade asked softly.

Upon observing Hunter's surprise, it confirmed her suspicion that there was more to Emmy's leg injury.

Fearful of Hunter misunderstanding, she hastily clarified, "I don't mean anything else. I just want to help Emmy. I believe she deserves to experience the joys of childhood, to be out in the sun like any other child, instead of being confined to her room every day."
