Gwen's Pov

Alex swirled his champagne glass, his posture relaxed like he hadn’t just dropped a grenade between us. My heart was slamming against my ribs so hard I was sure both men could hear it.

Raymond’s face drained of color for a split second, his eyes darting between me and Alex, then turning dark with disbelief.

“You’re lying,” His voice went down an octave lower, as if trying to hypnotise us into vomiting the truth. “You would never…”

“Wouldn’t I?” Alex cut in smoothly, stepping closer

Gwen’s PovMy eyelids felt glued together, but I forced them open. White ceiling tiles, a hanging flower decor, half-opened sheer curtains, and sunset yellow walls. I was in my room. A heavy arm was draped across my waist. I turned my head slowly and froze. Alex was lying right beside me, shirtless. His toned chest rose and fell with steady breaths, one arm tucked under the pillow while the other rested possessively over me. His messy cocoa-brown hair was even more roughened up than usual, and those striking blue eyes were already open, watching me with quiet amusement.A sharp gasp tore from my throat.I scrambled backward so fast I nearly fell off the bed. My heart nearly beating out of my ribcage as I tumbled out, landing on the floor in a tangle of sheets and panic.“What the… Alex?!” I shrieked, dragging the rest of the duvet up to cover myself even though I was still in clothes. “Why are you in my bed?! Shirtless!”He propped himself up on one elbow, looking entirely too

Why wouldn’t I?”I couldn’t speak. My throat had closed up completely. Heat rushed up my neck and into my cheeks as the words replayed in my head. What was Alex doing? His hovering hands rested gently on my waist, squeezing reassuringly. A gasp escaped my lips before I could stop it, and my fingers tensed around the glass. The contact was unexpected, a

Gwen’s POV. Even in a hall filled with people chattering and soft music playing, the silence that descended on us was deafening and the tension in the air as Raymond and I stared at each other was so intense, thick enough for someone to choke on. Suddenly, a blonde haired woman that I hadn’t even noticed before stepped out from behind Raymond and looped her arm possessively through his before turning to us with a wide smile on her face, “Well… this is a surprise.” She said, her bright red lips curved into a smirk as her eyes slid over my entire length with disdain, like I was something the cat dragged in. Alex glanced from me to her, confused, “I’m sorry, you are?” He asked and she chuckled lightly, waving him off with her well-manicured nails as if he was silly for asking her that question. “I’m Sasha.” She announced with an air of arrogance like it was the most important thing in the world, “Raymond’s fiancée.” Fiancée. That word hit me like a ton of bricks. He’d got

Gwen’s POV. For a full week, I managed to avoid Dr. Alex. It was difficult given how we were now working on a charity project together but it was all I could do to avoid having to apologize for calling him a pervert in the elevator. Everyone loved him in the hospital, patients always wanted him to attend to them and it was weird to see the son of such a wealthy man be so down to earth around regular people. “His family owns majority of the top hospitals in the world. He has won countless awards in this field and to top it all up, he is so good looking.” One of the nurses swooned as we made our way to the cafeteria. “You’re so lucky Gwen, I would give anything to be the one working with him on a project.” Another cried out, grabbing onto my arm playfully. I rolled my eyes because that was what everyone seemed to be talking about these days, him. The annoying doctor whose eyes seemed to be following me around. Every meeting we had for the project, I tried my best to keep m

Gwen’s POV. “Ugh, my arms are about to fall off.” I grumbled to myself as I struggled to balance the heavy boxes of donated toys stacked up in my arms. The corners of the boxes were digging into my palms and I could feel a painful cramp in my shoulders. It’s been one year since I walked out of Raymond’s apartment. One year since I went into that surgery room alone and was lucky to return alive and so much healthier. With a five percent chance of survival, everyone called it a miracle and I couldn’t agree more. The first breath I took after waking up from the transplant made me realize just how fragile life was, it felt like I had been given a second chance at life so I made a promise to myself to make the most of it. Recovering from the surgery was tough, every day, I fought back the urge to send a text or call Raymond, I cried myself to sleep every night and deep down, I missed him. But the greatest shock came when I realized that just two months after I walked away, he h

Gwen’s POV. “Three months,” Dr. Evans' firm voice filled my ears, “without intervention, you have at most, three months left to live, Mrs. Carvers.” Those words landed like a blow, knocking the air right out of my lungs as my eyes dropped to my hands clenched tightly on my thighs. It didn’t matter how hard I was fighting back the tears, it was already rapidly pooling at the bottom of my eyes and blurring my vision of my wedding ring. “I’m sorry but there is very little we can do, the pulmonary hypertension has progressed too far, even with the surgery, the chances of… well, of making it through are very slim given how much your heart is already struggling.” “I have to be honest with you, we’re looking at a five percent survival rate.” A strange high-pitched noise filled my ears and the doctor’s voice gradually began to fade into the background. Everything in the room seemed to disappear, leaving just me and the terrifying darkness in my mind. “This is a major surgery and y
