Heather’s POV
The pain didn’t come in waves anymore.
I gasped as another contraction tore through me, my fingers digging painfully into Vivianne’s hand. I didn’t even realize how hard I was squeezing until she winced slightly but she didn’t pull away.
“Hang in there, Heather… we’re almost there” she murmured, her voice soft and steady.
I clung to that voice like it was the only thing keeping me grounded.
While Adrian drove like a man possessed.
The city blurred past us.. it’s lights streaking, horns blaring, people shouting but none of it mattered. My world had narrowed down to pain… and the life fighting its way out of me.
“It hurts…” I breathed, my voice breaking as another contraction hit. “Adrian.. ”
“I know, baby. We’re almost there,” he said quickly, his grip tightening on the wheel.
He sounded… nervous.
Of course he was, we had prayed for this in two years of marriage. Almost even lost hope buy now, it was finally here…

The car barely came to a full stop before the hospital glass doors slid open automatically to reveal nurses rushed out with a stretcher.
“Sir, we’ve got her!” one of them said as they quickly helped me out.
Everything blurred after that.
I could feel hands everywhere.
Voices overlapping.
“Prepare the delivery room!”
“We need to check dilation first!”
“Her blood pressure is rising.. we need to stabilize it!”
I was barely aware of anything as they laid me flat and started wheeling me inside.
The ceiling lights passed above me in rapid flashes, each one making my head spin.
Machines beeped.
Hurried footsteps echoed.
Orders were barked.
Through it all, I still held onto Vivianne’s hand like my life depended on it.
She stayed close, helping me stay grounded amidst the contractions.
Adrian was right beside us, moving quickly, his face tight with tension.
Then… Her hand slipped from mine.
I blinked.. dazed, trying to hold on but she was already stepping back.
Both of them were.
Their figures slowly retreated as the stretcher rolled past the delivery doors.
“No..wait..” I tried to say, but another contraction slammed into me, stealing the words right out of my mouth.
The doors swung shut.
And just like that, they were gone.
Inside, everything changed.
It was less rowdy and focused.
“Mrs. Cole, can you hear me?” The midwife said, leaning over me.
I nodded weakly, my breathing uneven.
“Good. Stay with us,” she said. “Your contractions are already a minute apart. You’re fully dilated.”
My heart raced.
This was it.
“Okay,” another voice said firmly. “When the next contraction comes, I need you to push.”
I nodded again, my body trembling.
Then it hit.
Hard.
“Push!” they urged.
I screamed.
Pain ripped through me like my body was being torn in half, but I pushed anyway.. again.. and again.
My fingers curled into the sheets, my throat raw from screaming.
Time lost meaning as minutes stretched into hours.
This was the longest… most painful experience of my life.
But I didn’t stop… I couldn’t.
Because at the end of it… the sharp and loud cry that came next made every pain worth it..
Tears blurred my vision instantly as I looked up.
“My baby…” I whispered.
They placed him onto my chest.. and just like that, nothing else mattered.
He was so small and warm. He was simply perfect
A tiny cry escaped him as I held him against my chest, my hands shaking as I tried to take him in… his face, his fingers, his everything.
“I… I did it…” I breathed, tears slipping down my cheeks. “You’re finally here my little miracle..”
The pain and exhaustion all faded away.
This was worth it.
Every single second.
But I had barely had him for a moment before the midwife stepped forward.
“Alright, that’s enough,” she said.
My heart skipped.
She gently but firmly lifted him out of my arms.
“We need to clean him up and take him to the nursery so his parents can see him.”
Her words echoed in my head
“…his parents?” I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.
Confusion flooded me instantly.
“I’m… I’m his mother,” I said, trying to push myself up.
But another nurse pressed me down gently.
“No, please don’t move,” she said. “You’re still sore and the placenta hasn’t fully been delivered yet.”
I didn’t care.
Panic surged through me, sharp and sudden.
“Wait.. where are you taking him?” I demanded, my voice rising. “That’s my baby!”
The midwife who had taken him didn’t answer me.
She simply handed him off to another nurse, who began walking toward the door.
Something inside me snapped.
“No!” I cried, struggling harder now. “That’s my child.. give him back!”
My heart pounded violently against my chest, my breathing turning erratic.
“I’m his mother!” I shouted. “Call my husband.. call Adrian!”
The machines beside me started beeping rapidly.
“Her blood pressure is spiking,” someone said quickly.
“I said call my husband!” I screamed.
But no one listened.
Instead..
“Prepare the sedative,” a voice ordered.
My blood ran cold.
“No…” I whispered, shaking my head weakly. “No, don’t..”
I knew those types of medication, it didn’t just calm you. It puts you under.
“Wait..please..” I tried again, my voice breaking as panic took over completely. “What’s going on.. someone call my husband.. please!”
Hands grabbed me firmly, holding me down.
“No! Let go of me!” I struggled, my body weak but desperate. “ADRIAN! HELP!”
But the room stayed the same.
A syringe appeared in the nurse’s hand.
My eyes widened in terror.
“Please..!” I screamed.
The needle slid into the cannula.
And just like that… everything started fading.
“No… no… no…” I whispered, my voice slurring as the drug spread through my system.
My limbs grew heavy, vision blurred and the room began to tilt.
I tried to fight it, to hold on even a little but I was losing faster than I had imagined.
Voices became distant and muffled.
And then..
I heard it clearly.
“Go ahead and inform Mr. and Mrs. Cole their son has been born.”
My mind stuttered.
Mr… and Mrs… Cole?
That was..
That was me and Adrian…
Right?
Then why?
But darkness swallowed me whole before the answer could come.
HEATHER’S POVThe next morning, I woke to sunlight falling across my face. The curtains were already open, and Julian was standing beside the window with his hands in his pockets, looking completely comfortable for someone who wasn't even a member of this household. I stared at him for a few seconds before asking, “What are you doing here this early?”He turned toward me with an amused expression. “You used to sleep through everyone calling your name when we were children.” I frowned at him. “I don't remember that.” “I remember it,” he replied, and there was something so casual about the exchange that I almost forgot I had only met him properly yesterday. I shook my head, but a small laugh escaped me.“You're crazy,” I told him. He smiled. “You said that a lot too.” I rolled my eyes before trying to sit up. The movement reminded me immediately that my legs still weren't strong enough to do everything myself. Julian noticed and stepped toward the door. “I'll get someone to help y
JULIAN’S POVFor a moment, I couldn't speak. I had imagined finding Elara for eighteen years, but none of those moments had prepared me for seeing her alive. She was sitting only a few feet away from me, looking at me with a cautious expression, while I struggled to understand how the little girl I had spent years searching for had become this woman.I studied her face, searching for the features I remembered. Her eyes were the same, especially the way they narrowed when she was unsure about someone. Even the slight crease between her brows looked familiar. I had carried those memories for so long that seeing them again felt almost unreal. I looked away briefly, trying to steady myself before facing her again.“I don't remember you,” she said quietly. I had already been warned about that, but hearing it from her still hurt. I forced myself to nod. “I know,” I replied. She hesitated before adding, “And my name is Heather.” “You don't have to call yourself Elara because I do,” I told
HEATHER’S POV“Can we wait until Ryder comes back?” I asked as I looked between Dominic and Jermaine, my attention briefly shifting toward the closed door through which Ryder had disappeared with the doctor. “He was the one who stayed with me throughout the examination, so I'd rather hear everything when he's here too.”Dominic studied me for a moment, clearly wanting an answer immediately, but he didn't argue. “All right,” he finally agreed as he pulled a chair closer to the bed. “We can wait for Ryder.” Jermaine simply nodded beside him, looking much calmer as he settled into the chair near the window. The silence that followed made me uncomfortable, so I decided to ask the question that had been bothering me since they rushed into my room that morning. “Why were all of you so frightened when I fell?” I asked as I looked from one brother to the other. “I understand that it looked bad, but the way Dominic reacted made it seem like something much worse had happened.”Dominic's expre
HEATHER’S POV“I need to speak with Heather privately. Gentlemen, could you please excuse us?” the doctor said as he gathered his equipment, his calm expression making it clear that he wasn't asking because he thought something was terribly wrong, but because there were things he wanted to discuss with me without making me feel pressured by three anxious men hovering around my bed.Dominic looked like he wanted to argue, but after glancing at me, he finally nodded. “All right,” he agreed reluctantly as he stepped away from the bed. “But if there's anything serious, I want to know immediately.” Jermaine followed him toward the door, while Ryder gave me one last concerned look before leaving the room with them. The door closed behind them, and the room suddenly felt much quieter. I looked at the doctor as he put his equipment aside, trying to read his expression. “Am I in trouble?” I asked, attempting to make light of the situation even though my stomach was already tightening with w
HEATHER’S POVI kept the folded paper hidden beneath my pillow long after I discovered it. I wanted to open it again, but I was too tired to deal with another strange piece of my life that didn't make sense. After everything that had happened, my head already felt like it was about to burst. Eventually, exhaustion won, and I drifted in and out of sleep for most of the night, waking now and then whenever I shifted and remembered that I still couldn't move my legs.By morning, my back was sore, my body felt heavy, and I was getting tired of lying in the same position. I looked around the room and noticed the call button sitting on the other side of the bedside table. It wasn't far, but it was far enough that I would have to ask someone to come and help me again. The thought made me sigh. Why does everything have to be so difficult now?I had never liked asking people for help, and being unable to do even the smallest things without someone else was starting to make me feel helpless.I p
HEATHER’S POVI stared at the little brown box for a few seconds before finally pulling it closer. The maid stayed near the door while I slowly lifted the lid, and my eyes moved over the things inside. My purse was scratched from the accident, but I recognized it immediately. My cards were still inside, along with some cash, my lip balm, and a few other small things I remembered carrying that morning. Seeing them gave me a strange sense of comfort. For the first time since waking up in that room, I was looking at things that belonged to a life I actually remembered.I picked up the purse and checked the pockets carefully before looking toward the maid, who was still waiting patiently beside the door. “Are you sure nobody went through these before they were brought here?”I asked quietly, my fingers tightening around the purse because I suddenly needed to know that nothing had been added or taken from it.The maid shook her head gently, her expression remaining calm as she reassured
