Chapter 3

Author: Asteria
Since last night, the power inside me had grown increasingly unstable.

Faint crimson veins kept surfacing along my arms.

After another visit to the healer's cottage, her expression turned grim.

"Your body's almost at its limit.

"Don't take any more medication that stimulates your bloodline, and stay away from anything that could trigger an allergic reaction."

The moment I stepped outside, I ran into Liam and Chloe.

When Liam saw me, his expression stiffened briefly.

Even so, he never let go of Chloe's hand.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm not feeling very well."

He nodded. He showed no interest in asking anything else.

I politely returned the question. "What about you two?"

Liam let out an exaggerated sigh. He sounded concerned when he answered, "Chloe scratched herself while taking off her earrings. I'm taking her to Silver Spring to get healed.

"Luckily, I noticed right away. Otherwise, who knows what might've happened?"

He sounded as if she'd suffered a life-threatening injury.

I followed his gaze.

There was only a tiny scratch on Chloe's pale index finger. It had nearly healed already.

She gently tugged on Liam's arm and complained, "It's your fault. You kept blowing on my ear, and it distracted me."

Liam chuckled softly. "Fine, fine. It's all my fault," he said in a comforting tone.

I'd had enough of watching them flirt. Lowering my head, I walked away.

Behind me, I heard Chloe whisper, "Why is her arm covered in red marks? It's terrifying. Tell her to get it checked."

Liam answered absentmindedly, "She's always been healthy. Even if she's sick, a couple of days of rest will fix it."

"I'm worried about you. What if she caught some plague and gave it to you?"

Liam laughed. "Fine. I'll have her get checked again tomorrow."

-

I dropped off most of my luggage and didn't get back to my place until later in the evening.

The moment I reached the front door, a strong alcohol stench hit me. It made my head spin.

The living room was packed with werewolves.

Liam and several of his friends sat in a circle. They were playing the latest party game.

Each player drew a card and had to complete whatever challenge was written on it.

Anyone who refused or failed had to drink instead.

Empty bottles were scattered across the table.

Nobody noticed I'd come home.

Leaning against Liam, Chloe drew a card from the center of the deck.

The werewolves next to her immediately whistled.

"Striptease, or three drinks!"

Chloe's ears turned red slightly. She pretended to be embarrassed and bit her lip.

"I can't drink that much."

Without hesitation, Liam took the glass from her hand.

"I'll drink for her."

The room instantly burst into cheers.

"Alpha, you're way too biased!"

"Exactly! You always cover for Chloe. Where's the fun in that?"

"You really do treat your childhood sweetheart differently. Tsk, tsk."

Liam simply smiled and downed the whiskey in one gulp.

Amid the cheers, Chloe finally noticed me.

She stood up with a bright smile.

"Ella, you're back. We ran out of slippers, so you'll have to wear the disposable ones."

I looked down.

The slippers Liam had specially bought for me were now on Chloe's feet.

They weren't even her size. Her heels stuck out over the back, yet she deliberately walked back and forth in front of me.

I didn't say a word.

I bent down and slipped on the disposable slippers instead.

The pungent smell of alcohol made my chest feel stuffy.

I walked over to the window and had barely cracked it open when Liam looked up.

"Close it."

Back in my office, I motioned for Finn to sit down. The wound on his arm looked severe."Don't move."Holding his wrist, I carefully tightened the bandage.Finn's tall frame immediately went rigid. He looked like a soldier awaiting inspection."You heal quickly, but Liam is still an Alpha. This injury shouldn't be taken lightly."Go soak in the Silver Spring later."Noticing the faint redness creeping over his ears, I tilted my head."Are you feeling all right?"Finn cleared his throat."I'm fine."His ears turned even redder. After tying off the bandage, I reached for the medical kit to put it away.Suddenly, he spoke, "Aurora.""Hm?"A long silence passed before he finally found the courage to continue."H-Have you really moved on from Liam?"My hands paused for just a moment.I smiled."Of course."Finn let out a sigh of relief, but almost immediately, he became even more nervous. He clenched the fabric over his knees until his knuckles turned white."W-Well, s

I simply shook my head."Liam, what happened one night was never what made me give up on you."It was every time you chose her and abandoned me."As the color slowly drained from Liam's face, I let out a sigh of relief."I'm actually grateful you gave Chloe the marking ceremony."Every time I think about how close I came to becoming the mate of someone who tolerated people bullying me, it makes me shudder."Liam, becoming your mate would've been my nightmare."He stood there completely stunned. His eyes were filled with disbelief when he looked at me."Why?"I looked at him in confusion."What do you mean?""W-Why are you so cruel to me?"I couldn't help but laugh."Because I don't love you anymore."Back then, I was willing to act dumb and play the role of an ordinary shewolf in love."But the play is over."Tears rolled down his cheeks. It was the first time I'd ever seen Liam cry.He hadn't even cried when Chloe broke up with him years ago.Yet my heart didn't sti

As the future Alpha, I began taking over pack affairs. Every day, I traveled between the council chamber and the training grounds. After finally settling a border dispute, I took a walk alone through the hunting grounds to clear my mind.Suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist and dragged me outside. In just a few days, Liam looked like a different man. He was haggard, and his eyes were bloodshot."Ella. No, Aurora."Come back to the Silver Moon Pack with me."If you come back, I'll pretend none of this ever happened."Slap! His head snapped sharply to one side.I slowly lowered my hand and looked at him calmly."Have you come back to your senses?"The side of Liam's face I had slapped quickly turned red and swollen. His eyes welled up with tears too. He actually looked wronged."How could you hit me?"Are you going to choose the throne over me?"I almost laughed."So now you finally understand what it feels like to be abandoned?"His voice softened."T-That's different."

Liam's mind went completely blank."That's impossible."Aurora was a name every werewolf knew.It was just like how everyone knew that the Frost Moon Pack was the most ancient and powerful pack in werewolf history. It was the birthplace of more Alpha Kings than any other.Meanwhile, Aurora was Frost Moon Pack's only princess and its strongest successor. The room fell silent. Finally, someone spoke with a trembling voice."Alpha, if that's true, then what we did yesterday–"Crash!Liam kicked the table over.Bottles shattered, and crimson liquor flowed on the floor like fresh blood.By the time everyone came to their senses, he'd already sprinted out of the manor. He sped down the highway in his sports car while calling me repeatedly.Every call went straight to voicemail. With a frustrated growl, he slammed his fist against the steering wheel. The car accelerated even faster. He went to the place where the convoy had last been seen, but the place was empty by the time h

Some time later, Liam cursed under his breath. He yanked open the front door and chased after me, but outside the villa, there was nothing except the dark night.I was long gone. One of his friends sensed something was wrong and cautiously asked, "Alpha, should we send someone to bring Ella back?"Looking out over the empty manor, Liam felt an unfamiliar sense of unease. He'd never imagined that I, the always obedient shewolf, would actually leave. The feeling disappeared almost as quickly as it came. With a cold chuckle, he said, "Why bother? She'll come crawling back within three days."In the entire western territory, where else could she possibly go besides the Silver Moon Pack?"If she misses the next full moon, I won't mark her even if she gets down on her knees and begs."Everyone burst into laughter when they heard that."Exactly. Without you, Alpha, she can barely survive.""She's probably hiding somewhere crying right now."I had just checked into an inn near the

I stopped moving."The smell of alcohol is too strong in here. I'm allergic to alcohol. I really don't feel well."Liam set his glass down and looked at me with an annoyed expression."But Chloe is sensitive to the cold. What if she falls sick?"Everyone's having a good time. Don't ruin the mood."I fell silent for a moment before asking softly, "How much longer will this go on?"Liam was beginning to look impatient."At most another two hours. Just hang in there."Fighting back the dizziness, I shook my head."I really can't take it."His expression didn't change in the slightest."That's your problem."He picked up his drink again and drained it in one gulp.An awkward silence followed.Just as I was about to speak, Chloe suddenly smiled, pulled out her phone, and connected it to the living room speakers."What's the fun in just drinking? It's a party. We need some music."The next second, deafening music blasted through the villa.Everyone immediately raised their g
