Chapter 2

Author: Asteria
After I dried my hands, my phone lit up.

[The succession ceremony is ready.]

[Please return to our territory as soon as possible, Princess.]

[Understood.]

Right after I sent my reply, I went into the bedroom to pack.

The moment I opened the closet, I froze.

There was a set of unfamiliar white-laced lingerie inside.

It was boldly revealing. The skirt was so short it barely covered anything. It looked as if it had been left there as an open challenge.

I took it off the hanger.

Upon looking more closely, I noticed unmistakable stains on the fabric.

Right then, I heard the bedroom door being opened.

Liam walked in.

He was visibly stunned when he saw what I was holding.

He then casually took it from me.

"Caspar and the guys had their girlfriends over a few days ago. They must've left it here."

I lowered my head and clenched the hem of my shirt tightly.

It wasn't because I was heartbroken. Instead, it was because I was so disgusted I wanted to throw up.

Liam clearly misunderstood.

He casually ruffled my hair like he was comforting a well-trained pet.

"Ella, do you know what I like most about you?"

Before I could answer, he chuckled.

"You're obedient. No matter what happens, you never make things difficult for me."

I'd heard those words countless times.

It was as if that was all I was meant to be.

I was never jealous or demanding. I was more like a perfectly trained pet instead of a shewolf.

"What happened with Chloe is in the past.

"Giving her a marking ceremony is just my way of making up for what happened back then."

His words brought me back to the day we first met in the wastelands.

Back then, he'd been badly injured and was barely clinging to life.

For a long time afterward, he wandered through each day in a daze and barely spoke.

I treated his wounds, and I made him laugh. We relied on each other to survive.

Gradually, he opened up to me.

Once he'd recovered, he brought me back to Silver Moon Pack.

His elite friends all assumed I was a rogue and treated me like a tool for entertainment.

But because of Liam, I chose to stay.

It wasn't until much later that I learned the truth. The reason he'd wandered into the wastelands in the first place was because Chloe had dumped him.

So when she returned, I became the one who could be discarded without a second thought.

"Well, I'd better go."

Liam glanced at his watch and headed for the door without hesitation.

Maybe it was because the power in my blood was becoming impossible to suppress, or maybe years of buried resentment had finally reached its limit.

I clenched my jaw and grabbed his wrist.

"Liam, can't you stay?"

He looked at me helplessly.

"I can't. I promised Chloe I'd help her take off her makeup tonight. I can't break my promise."

I almost laughed.

If keeping promises mattered that much to him, then why had every promise he'd ever made to me been broken?

"Oh, okay."

I let go immediately.

To my surprise, Liam took my hand instead. His voice was gentle.

"When I get back, I'll bring you your favorite honey cake."

The truth was that I'd never liked desserts.

"Thank you," I said softly.

Satisfied, Liam left. He never came home that night.

-

The next morning, Chloe posted a new update.

It was only a photo.

She showed a peace sign. At the edge of the frame, a sliver of white lace peeked into view.

I recognized it instantly.

It was the lingerie that had been hanging in my closet yesterday.

The comments quickly went wide.

[So hot!]

[Congratulations, girl! Your dream finally came true!]

[Was the Alpha amazing last night?]

Chloe replied with a blushing emoji.

[Of course he was!]

Feeling nauseous, I locked my phone right away.

Back in my office, I motioned for Finn to sit down. The wound on his arm looked severe."Don't move."Holding his wrist, I carefully tightened the bandage.Finn's tall frame immediately went rigid. He looked like a soldier awaiting inspection."You heal quickly, but Liam is still an Alpha. This injury shouldn't be taken lightly."Go soak in the Silver Spring later."Noticing the faint redness creeping over his ears, I tilted my head."Are you feeling all right?"Finn cleared his throat."I'm fine."His ears turned even redder. After tying off the bandage, I reached for the medical kit to put it away.Suddenly, he spoke, "Aurora.""Hm?"A long silence passed before he finally found the courage to continue."H-Have you really moved on from Liam?"My hands paused for just a moment.I smiled."Of course."Finn let out a sigh of relief, but almost immediately, he became even more nervous. He clenched the fabric over his knees until his knuckles turned white."W-Well, s

I simply shook my head."Liam, what happened one night was never what made me give up on you."It was every time you chose her and abandoned me."As the color slowly drained from Liam's face, I let out a sigh of relief."I'm actually grateful you gave Chloe the marking ceremony."Every time I think about how close I came to becoming the mate of someone who tolerated people bullying me, it makes me shudder."Liam, becoming your mate would've been my nightmare."He stood there completely stunned. His eyes were filled with disbelief when he looked at me."Why?"I looked at him in confusion."What do you mean?""W-Why are you so cruel to me?"I couldn't help but laugh."Because I don't love you anymore."Back then, I was willing to act dumb and play the role of an ordinary shewolf in love."But the play is over."Tears rolled down his cheeks. It was the first time I'd ever seen Liam cry.He hadn't even cried when Chloe broke up with him years ago.Yet my heart didn't sti

As the future Alpha, I began taking over pack affairs. Every day, I traveled between the council chamber and the training grounds. After finally settling a border dispute, I took a walk alone through the hunting grounds to clear my mind.Suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist and dragged me outside. In just a few days, Liam looked like a different man. He was haggard, and his eyes were bloodshot."Ella. No, Aurora."Come back to the Silver Moon Pack with me."If you come back, I'll pretend none of this ever happened."Slap! His head snapped sharply to one side.I slowly lowered my hand and looked at him calmly."Have you come back to your senses?"The side of Liam's face I had slapped quickly turned red and swollen. His eyes welled up with tears too. He actually looked wronged."How could you hit me?"Are you going to choose the throne over me?"I almost laughed."So now you finally understand what it feels like to be abandoned?"His voice softened."T-That's different."

Liam's mind went completely blank."That's impossible."Aurora was a name every werewolf knew.It was just like how everyone knew that the Frost Moon Pack was the most ancient and powerful pack in werewolf history. It was the birthplace of more Alpha Kings than any other.Meanwhile, Aurora was Frost Moon Pack's only princess and its strongest successor. The room fell silent. Finally, someone spoke with a trembling voice."Alpha, if that's true, then what we did yesterday–"Crash!Liam kicked the table over.Bottles shattered, and crimson liquor flowed on the floor like fresh blood.By the time everyone came to their senses, he'd already sprinted out of the manor. He sped down the highway in his sports car while calling me repeatedly.Every call went straight to voicemail. With a frustrated growl, he slammed his fist against the steering wheel. The car accelerated even faster. He went to the place where the convoy had last been seen, but the place was empty by the time h

Some time later, Liam cursed under his breath. He yanked open the front door and chased after me, but outside the villa, there was nothing except the dark night.I was long gone. One of his friends sensed something was wrong and cautiously asked, "Alpha, should we send someone to bring Ella back?"Looking out over the empty manor, Liam felt an unfamiliar sense of unease. He'd never imagined that I, the always obedient shewolf, would actually leave. The feeling disappeared almost as quickly as it came. With a cold chuckle, he said, "Why bother? She'll come crawling back within three days."In the entire western territory, where else could she possibly go besides the Silver Moon Pack?"If she misses the next full moon, I won't mark her even if she gets down on her knees and begs."Everyone burst into laughter when they heard that."Exactly. Without you, Alpha, she can barely survive.""She's probably hiding somewhere crying right now."I had just checked into an inn near the

I stopped moving."The smell of alcohol is too strong in here. I'm allergic to alcohol. I really don't feel well."Liam set his glass down and looked at me with an annoyed expression."But Chloe is sensitive to the cold. What if she falls sick?"Everyone's having a good time. Don't ruin the mood."I fell silent for a moment before asking softly, "How much longer will this go on?"Liam was beginning to look impatient."At most another two hours. Just hang in there."Fighting back the dizziness, I shook my head."I really can't take it."His expression didn't change in the slightest."That's your problem."He picked up his drink again and drained it in one gulp.An awkward silence followed.Just as I was about to speak, Chloe suddenly smiled, pulled out her phone, and connected it to the living room speakers."What's the fun in just drinking? It's a party. We need some music."The next second, deafening music blasted through the villa.Everyone immediately raised their g
