Chapter 79

Maddox’s point of view.

Back at the bunker and I’m still sitting in the meeting room when everyone else has left, still trying to get my head around everything that's going down, but it's hard, knowing that this is going to be a really tough rescue operation; quiet possibly a suicide mission. I hear Jake’s phone ringing as he walks down the corridor heading to his office; his footsteps stop as he talks to someone, and a couple of minutes later, he pops his head back around the door as he says to me, “Maddox, you really need to hear this, buddy.”

I raise my eyebrows as I ask, “Why, what's happening?”

Jake walks into the room as he says, “I have a government agent on the phone, and apparently, he has just taken a call from a security guard at the Mansfield hospital. They are connecting us on a secure line now!”

Jake places the call on the loudspeaker as we both gather around the phone.
