Chapter 2

“HEY, MOM, it’s time for your medicine,” Carrie said, placing the tray on the side table. Scarlett took her medication and watched her youngest daughter.

“You don’t have to do this, Carrie. I have nurses to do their job,” Scarlett said. Carrie just smiled and adjusted Scarlett’s blanket.

“Has your twin come home yet?”

Carrie stopped at Scarlett’s question but forced a smile and shook her head.

“Not yet, mom, but don’t worry, I will find him okay?” she reassured her mother about her brother.

“He’s still mad at me. He hasn’t visited in many years. Is he alright? Is he still eating properly?” Scarlett asked with concern, covering her face because her eldest child still hasn’t come home.

Carrie panicked and hugged Scarlett to comfort her because her mother was still sad that her twin brother hadn’t come home yet, and she also missed their father even though many years had passed.

“Mom, I will find him, okay? I will find my twin brother,” she said, looking at her mother while holding back tears. “So, please, make sure to improve your health so that when Agustin comes home, he will be delighted to see you in good shape,” she added, kissing Scarlett on the forehead, who nodded and lay back down on the bed.

Carrie smiled as she held back her emotions while fixing Scarlett’s blanket. She stayed in Scarlett's room for a few more minutes before deciding to leave her mother alone because she had fallen asleep.

She took a deep breath and took one last look before turning off the light and finally leaving her mother’s room, but she almost screamed when she saw one of her uncles in front of her.

“Uncle Rios!” she whispered because one of her uncles always seemed to appear out of nowhere. “You’re back! Rio told us that you and Uncle Dane should stay in Madrid.”

Rios just grinned and invited Carrie to go to the mini bar to talk to her.

“Yeah, we’re back. But we will stay in my house. How are you doing?”

Carrie forced a smile and approached the collection of alcohol, pouring a drink for her uncle.

“I’m fine,” Carrie said, pouring a drink for herself as well, and they cheered. “I’m unable to find him, uncle. I don’t know where he is. I miss my brother.”

Carrie stared at her glass and tears began to fall, but she quickly wiped them away.

Rios looked at Carrie and took a deep breath. “There’s a saying that goes, ‘the person who doesn’t want to be found won’t show up.’” he said, smiling at Carrie and putting his hand on her shoulder, knowing that his niece was carrying a heavy burden.

“Do you realize that your brother is different from you?”

Carrie nodded and wiped her tears again. “Yeah, I know. I just miss him so much. He hasn’t come home or even called to let us know where he is,” she said, shaking her head and running her fingers through her hair. “He disappeared without anyone noticing.”

She clenched her fist, feeling useless for not being able to find her brother.

Rios grinned and shook his head, saying that Agustin is just like their mother when it comes to hiding.

“Your brother is wiser. He will come home soon. Agustin can take care of himself. He’s a Knight, and he will be our new chairman.”

Carrie smiled, but her smile faded as they were facing problems within the organization.

“Uncle, many still don’t believe in the abilities of the new generation after yours. Many are still trying to take the throne from Agustin,” Carrie said, looking at Rios, who was silent while drinking. “If Agustin doesn’t come back soon, they will appoint a new chairman for the organization. I have to find him as soon as possible because his position is in danger.”

Carrie bit her lip in anxiety, worried that someone might take the throne from her brother. “Even the position in the company, there’s still no chairman and president after grandpa died and mom left the position for us. The board of directors is saying that Agustin should be replaced, and they have someone else in mind for the position,” she added.

Rios frowned and held his chin, realizing that their children's generation faced more challenges than theirs, which was filled with drama.

“While Agustin is absent, you could temporarily take on the role of chairman, since you're Ven’s youngest child,” Rios suggested with a smile. Carrie’s eyes widened, and she shook her head firmly, feeling overwhelmed by the business and organization.

“No way. I’m a member of the organization, but to be chairman? As in N-O, no! I’m not as smart as Agustin!” Carrie exclaimed in surprise, as her uncle Rios always caught her off guard.

Rios laughed as he shook his head, realizing that only Carrie could take Agustin’s place, as he had not yet returned.

“You’ll just be the acting chairman of the organization to keep Agustin’s position safe when he returns,” Rios said with a grin. “Because when Agustin comes back, they’ll be facing a storm. Remember, Agustin has surpassed your mother, your grandfathers, and the entire Knight family in skill and intelligence.”

Carrie just looked at her uncle Rios and nodded.

“So what you should do is find someone to marry, so you won’t be stressed out like this,” Rios joked. Carrie playfully hit her uncle for his teasing. “Give your mother a grandchild so, she doesn’t hide in her room.”

Carrie’s eyes widened. “Uncle!” she exclaimed, but Rios just laughed and stood up.

“I’m going home. I’ll be back tomorrow with your Uncle Dane, and we’ll have breakfast here,” Rios said as he patted Carrie on the shoulder. Before leaving, he had one more thing to add.

“Don’t worry about him. I know he’ll come home. Because if not… I’ll drag him back here to the mansion!” Rios shouted and waved to Carrie before finally leaving the manor.

Carrie just laughed and shook her head at her uncle, realizing that even though they were old, their behavior hadn’t changed, and they were becoming more childish.

Taking a deep breath, Carrie went up to her room to start searching for her twin again. She wouldn't stop until she found Agustin.
