Zara

The bell rang, sharp and final, to remind everyone that freedom was only a doorway away. Chairs scraped back in a wave, voices lifted in low chatter, books snapped shut. I slid my notebook into my bag with deliberate slowness, pretending not to notice the eyes that flicked toward me from across the room.

Seraphine’s mouth was twisted into that cruel little half-smile of hers, Nova leaned closer as if whispering a secret, Alex’s gaze burned like a blade trying to pierce my skin, and Talia tapped her pen with the rhythm of suspicion. They all looked… unsettled. Uneasy, even.

I stood, smoothing the strap of my bag over my shoulder as if they were nothing more than shadows passing in the corner of my vision. Zarek was at my side in seconds, tall, steady, his presence a wall between me and the rest of the room.

The corridors were crowded, students spilling into the hall with laughter, complaints, hurried footsteps. I moved through it all with Zarek a half-step behind me, like al

  • The Top Boy Is My Mate   Chapter 120 ~ None

Zara – First Person POV The restroom door creaked behind me as I stepped out, my palms still damp from where I’d pressed them against the cold sink. My reflection wouldn’t leave my mind—Talia’s calm face, her voice, those words that didn’t add up no matter how I tried to twist them. The corridor was quiet, only the faint hum of voices drifting from distant classrooms. I took a breath, hoping the air would clear my head, but instead I nearly jumped when a familiar voice cut through the silence. “There you are.” I froze. Zarek leaned casually against the opposite wall, one ankle crossed over the other, like he’d been there for hours. His gaze swept over me, sharp but unreadable. “Been looking for you.” I forced a weak smile, tugging at the hem of my sleeve. “Sorry. Got caught up.” His eyes narrowed just a little, flicking toward the door I had just left. “I saw Talia coming out of there a minute ago.” He pushed off the wall, stepping closer. “Don’t tell me you two talked?” My sto

Zara I didn’t sleep. The night dragged itself out in fragments—tossing, turning, staring at the ceiling as shadows shifted across the walls. By the time dawn began bleeding through the window, I gave up entirely and dressed, deciding to head to class long before anyone else. At least the silence of an empty classroom was better than the silence in my head. I dropped my bag on the desk, slumped forward, and let my cheek rest against the cool wood. The exhaustion finally dragged me under, though it wasn’t peaceful—it never was. This time, Kai appeared. His body hung suspended from a tree, his hair swaying like a broken curtain in the wind. My throat closed as I reached for him, but my feet refused to move. The killer. I strained to see, my heart clawing at my ribs, and then—just for an instant—darkness swallowed her again. I jolted awake, breath ragged, sweat cooling at the back of my neck. My eyes darted around the classroom, disoriented until the blur sharpened into desks, chalk

  • The Top Boy Is My Mate   Chapter 118 ~ A weight I can’t shake

Atlas’s POV The moment her hand slipped from mine, it felt like she ripped something out of my chest. Zara’s eyes—flashing with something raw and dangerous—burned into me as if she saw more than I wanted her to. More than I could ever explain.. I didn’t call after her. Couldn’t. My throat had locked shut, my wolf pacing in circles inside me, restless and unsettled. What the hell just happened? It wasn’t just that I’d embarrassed myself with that question—Did you ever like me?—though that humiliation still burned hot in my veins. It was the way she’d looked at me after she almost tripped. As if something had cracked open inside her. The image played again in my mind: her pupils dilating, her breath hitching, her fingers stiffening around mine before she yanked away. The flash of recognition in her face wasn’t something I imagined. I’d seen it clear as day. And that was the problem. Because I didn’t know what it meant. I leaned against the cold wall, dragging a hand through my h

Zara’s POVI pulled my hand free from Atlas as if his touch burned me. My chest tightened, air slicing in and out like I’d been sprinting laps.“Zara?” His voice was soft, questioning, almost desperate. “What’s wrong? Did I say something? Did I—”“Don’t.” My voice was sharper than I intended. Too raw. I forced the words out before he could try to close the space again. “Don’t… don’t touch me.”His mouth opened, then closed, jaw clenching. A flash of hurt crossed his face, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t. Not with my heart hammering like a war drum and my mind screaming that I’d seen the worst I could ever imagine..I turned away, walking fast. Not running—running would look like fear, and I refused to give him that—but fast enough that the air sliced across my face, cooling the heat prickling under my skin.My thoughts screamed. Why would his wolf attack me? Why did I break up with him back then? Was this it? Was this the real reason I couldn’t stay with him?By the time I reached the d

  • The Top Boy Is My Mate   Chapter 115 ~ The blood that burn

Jace The scratch of chalk against the board should have been the loudest sound in the room. The professor’s voice droned, steady and monotonous, lecturing about ancient territorial treaties between wolf packs and the fragile alliances that bound them. Pages turned. Pens scratched. Someone yawned a few rows down. But none of that touched me. Not when my gaze had been caught—snared—by the girl who sat two seats ahead, her back straight, her pen motionless against her paper. Zara. It wasn’t unusual for me to look at her; I had been doing that more often than I wanted to admit. But lately, staring at her left me with an ache I couldn’t name, an instinct that coiled low in my stomach like a command I couldn’t ignore. It was attraction—yes but no, it was sharper, heavier. Protection. A wild, bone-deep urge to shield her from every side as though the air itself was a threat. And then there were her eyes. I’d noticed it first during breakfast today when I stared at her. A molten yellow
