Zara’s POV

I hugged my books close to my chest as I walked, my boots scuffing against the floor in a steady rhythm, but inside me there was no rhythm, only chaos.

I rounded a corner, lost in the tide of thoughts, only to stop short.

Talia sat perched on the window bench, light spilling across her frame from the fading sun. The moment she saw me, she shot to her feet like a spring, hands twitching, a guilty expression flickering across her face.

Before I could retort, her expression faltered. She stepped inside, closing the door behind her with an uncharacteristic carefulness. “Listen… I need to say something.”

That instantly set me on edge. Talia rarely got serious. If she did, it meant something was really eating at her.

I straightened and crossed my arms. “Okay. I’m listening.”

She shifted from one foot to the other, twisting the sleeve of her sweatshirt in her hand. “About the other day. When I… when I left you in the hallway.”

The memory hit instantly. I had been asking he

Zara – First Person POV I froze, breath caught in my throat, my skin prickling with a warning I couldn’t quite place. The Blood Moon was still climbing the horizon, not yet at its peak, but the air carried a charge that made my bones itch. Something was out there. Watching and waiting. Then the shadow shifted again. My stomach plummeted because I recognized it immediately, those burning eyes, the massive bulk, the thick pelt as black as midnight. It was the rogue. The same one that had attacked me in the hallway that day with Atlas. Only now, under the half-veiled moon, its form was sharper, darker, towering over me. Black fur rippled across its body, glowing eyes fixed on me. It was too big, nearly 6’10, monstrous in a way no wolf should be. Before I could even form a thought, the rogue wolf lunged. I didn’t think. Instinct kicked in. My legs pushed off the ground before the sound of its claws raked where my head had been a second earlier. My heart thundered as I sprinted, leap

Zara’s POV Morning couldn’t come fast enough, and when it did, I already hated it. Jace was the first reason why. He slid into the seat beside mine in class like he owned it, elbow brushing mine as if we were back to being friends again—like that kiss had magically reset everything. His smirk was there, sharp as ever, taunting me. “Slept well?” he asked, leaning closer, voice pitched low, like we had secrets between us. I bit back the urge to roll my eyes. “Why are you acting like nothing happened?” “Because nothing did.” His smirk widened. “Unless you want it to mean something.” Heat rose to my face, but not the good kind. It was the kind that made me want to rip his stupid grin right off. Aurora, my wolf, stirred under my skin, restless, sensing my irritation. I shoved my books into my bag and stood so abruptly his smirk faltered. “You’re not my friend, Jace. Stop pretending.” I stormed out before I could give him the satisfaction of seeing how rattled I actually was. I tol

Zara’s POV The sting in my cheek hadn’t faded, even with the ice. My whole body still thrummed with the leftover adrenaline from Kai cornering me. So when I heard Talia’s voice behind me, soft but edged with something I couldn’t name, I stiffened. “Zara?” I turned slowly. She stood at the end of the library row, eyes wide and glistening, like she’d been crying. My chest tightened anyway. “Are you okay?” she asked, voice breaking. I hesitated, then nodded. “I’m fine.” The lie was stiff, and brittle. Her lips wobbled, and before I could say more, she blurted, “Should I—should I report him? Should I get Kai expelled? He literally tried to harass me, and now he—he hit you—” Her voice cracked. My stomach sank. “Talia…” Her eyes filled fast with tears, spilling down her cheeks. “Zara, you should be talking about yourself, not me. He hit you. Imagine if Atlas hears—what he’ll do—” I reached out quickly, grabbing her wrist. “Don’t. Please. Don’t tell him. Don’t tell anyone.” She bl

Zara’s POV The slap had come so fast I didn’t even see it coming. One second, Kai’s voice was rising, spitting accusations I couldn’t make sense of, and the next—my cheek stung like fire, the metallic taste of shock already pooling on my tongue. I froze, my chest heaving, my eyes wide as whispers rippled around us like wildfire. The corridor was never forgiving, every secret turned into gossip before the sound even faded. And now, I was the latest scandal. “You think you can play innocent?” Kai’s voice boomed, hard and sharp, making me flinch even though I refused to lower my chin. “You leaked that video, didn’t you? Pathetic little liar—” “I didn’t!” My words broke through, my throat raw, trembling, but I made sure they were loud enough to carry. “I don’t even know what the hell you’re talking about!” Kai’s nostrils flared, his eyes shifting dangerously close to silver. Wolves that close to the edge always unnerved me. It wasn’t like I didn’t know how to fight, I’d been training

Alex’s POV I told myself I hated her. Yes, I do. I repeated it like a mantra while the teacher droned on about equations I wasn’t even pretending to solve. My pencil tapped against the edge of my notebook, hard enough to leave dents in the paper. I hate her. She betrayed me. She doesn’t deserve my loyalty anymore. And yet— Every time I looked up, my eyes found her. Zara sat two rows ahead, her hair tucked behind her ear, her shoulders stiff like she was carrying the whole room on her back. She wasn’t laughing with Talia today, but they sat together and for a minute, I hated it. And damn it, that soft ache pulled inside me again. I missed her….. I missed late-night whispers under blankets, the way we’d sneak snacks into our room at our former school, the way she’d drag me by the wrist down the hall like she always knew where she was going—even when she didn’t. I missed the person who had been my anchor when everything else felt too loud. But then the memory snapped sharp again
