"It was him. He's waiting for me outside in the car. I gotta go!"

"Wait! I'll come with you!" I insisted. I didn't want to leave her alone right now.

She nodded, sniffling. "Alright, let's go!"

Once we were outside, we found him in the driver's seat

FYI, only a few substances can be determined as intoxicants by scent. A white powder could be anything. Having worked at a hotel I’ve witnessed a former druggie “test” a white powder, and it wasn’t by scent. They rubbed a bit of the powder against their gums.
