DAXTON

I tucked her in gently, brushing her hair away from her beautiful face. Then I leaned over to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. I didn't know what exactly had happened that made her pass out. But it was a relief to know that she wasn't in danger. It was also a bigger relief to know that the walls between us had come crashing down. So much that she'd been willing to let me feed on her.

I let my gaze roam over her stunning features. Her long lashes were wet and she looked so vulnerable... too small for all the wars she'd fought and the ones still coming.

Gods, I wanted to climb in beside her. But my mind was still hazy from bloodlust. She needed rest. So, I slipped out of the room and shut the door behind me, quietly.

My study smelled like old books and burning sage. I hadn't been in this house for almost a year. Soren was waiting by the window, gazing at the night sky, sipping something from my favourite mug.

"You're drinking from my 'I bite' mug."

ARYA My hands shook violently as I traced my fingers along the scars hidden underneath his tattoos. I couldn't stop the tears. He just sat there, watching me grieve, his eyes filled with pain. So much pain. "Does it hurt?" I whispered, and he gave me a sad smile. "Not right now," he replied, and my heart sank. "Why? It doesn't make sense that I would do something so inhumane to you unless...unless you were my enemy..." I croaked. "You didn't have a choice. You weren't strong enough. You were just a pawn in his hand," he told me and I looked up at him, blinking back my tears. "Who? Theron?" He stared at me for a few seconds as though he was worried that I wouldn't be able to bear the truth. "It was him," I uttered, my voice laced with utter disbelief. I pulled away from him, tears running down my cheeks. Right then there was a knock on the door. Daxton rose to his feet and unlocked the other cuff on my wrist. "She's here," he said, and I frowned, confused. Just then

ARYA I awoke with a loud gasp, jerking upright, only to freeze when the cold bite of metal dug into my wrists and ankles. I was cuffed to the bedposts. What the hell? Panic kicked in, only to double when I saw him. Daxton. He was curled up beside the bed, his head resting by my side like he belonged there. His eyes were closed, his breathing slow and even. The bastard was asleep. My heart pounded against my ribs. This had to be a joke. It was clear that he'd kidnapped me. Bloody hell, I'd been stupid to nearly get swayed by his sugary words. I'd unexpectedly met Theron at Maren's place. Apparently, she called him because she couldn't reach me. I couldn't believe I'd turned off my phone for this blue-eyed jerk. Now here I was, shackled like some villain's pet project while he slept peacefully beside me. Unbothered. Smug. Still infuriatingly gorgeous. There was no way in hell I was going to let him enjoy that nap. So, I decided to be noisier, yanking at the chains r

DAXTON I froze when I saw the terror on her face. Slowly, I released her, trying to tame the sudden blood lust that had surged inside of me. I didn't want her to think I was a rabid dog. It was bad enough that she'd arrived when my phantom pain had kicked in. Swallowing hard, I turned away from her, ignoring the shards digging into my feet. "Go...wash that blood off," I croaked. She didn't move right away. She hesitated. "Your feet—" "Ignore it," I deadpanned and she stepped away from me, her gaze fixed on me the entire time. The smell of her blood lingered, making me feel dizzy. So I headed to my bedroom, lowering myself on the bed while trying to breathe through my agony. The pain spiked up and I curled up in bed, clutching at my mid section with my eyes squeezed shut. I must've dissociated from my surroundings. When I opened my eyes again, Arya was sitting by my bedside. I could smell her scent but I could barely see her through the blur in my vision. She was speaking to

ARYA Alarms went off in my head, and my panic levels shot through the roof. But before I could say anything to keep the situation in control, the line went dead. Overcome with a rage so hot, it scorched my insides, I kicked Daxton in the shin, hard. If it caused him any pain, he did not show it. Instead, he pulled the phone away from my ear with a bored expression on his face. "I guess Lover Boy got impatient and maybe...pissed." Right then, I thought of my relationship with Theron. At first, it had been rocky, especially since I had no memory of our previous years together. But he'd been patient with me, even when I'd pushed him away. He was the only family I had. The only man who truly understood me. Without him, I wouldn't have become the powerful, affluent woman: Rhea Stone. I'd thrown away everything. I'd thrown away my peace, my future, and my life for this creature in front of me. And suddenly I regretted it. I regretted leaving the bar with him. "Get your hands off me," I

  • The Tribrid Alpha’s Nemesis    70: HAVE YOU BEEN STALKING ME?

ARYA Nothing could have prepared me for the sight of the scars hidden beneath his tattoos. They were from stab wounds. I didn't know how I was able to tell. But I could. Images of my dream from earlier flashed in my mind, nausea sweeping through me. My hands were trembling so hard now, and before I could pull myself together, I was already sobbing hard, my knees giving out. I couldn't understand what was happening to me at that moment. My chest felt like it was collapsing in on itself, and I couldn't breathe. There were emotions twisting in my heart, invisible knives stabbing my insides. Guilt, terror and an overwhelming sadness. They surged inside of me, hot tears rolling down my cheeks. Daxton must've thought I was going crazy. I could see the panic in his eyes as he slid his shirt back on and rushed to my side, kneeling beside me. I clawed at my chest, unable to breathe. Everything was spinning, but somehow I could still hear his voice. "Breathe, angel. Breathe. You're okay."
