AVA

My whole body was still buzzing from the way his teeth had grazed my skin.

The spot on my neck burned like it had been marked, though there was nothing there. I pressed my hand to it, but the heat remained, and all it did was remind me of how close Zade had been to sinking his teeth in.

His chest rose and fell fast against mine, while his breathing got really uneven. He didn’t take a step back or look away. His eyes stayed on me, and I couldn’t help but notice how wild and restless they looked.

“I almost did it,” he muttered finally. His voice was hoarse. His fingers were trembling as he skimmed them lightly over my neck. “I almost marked you right here.”

The words made me freeze. My heart thudded so hard it almost hurt. My body screamed yes, but my head was spinning with what it would mean. I would be marked and bound forever all while in the middle of the Council’s eyes and the pack’s whispers, with three bonds pulling me in every direction.

“Zade…” My voice came out weak and s

AXELAva’s hand was still in mine when we walked back inside. She didn’t let go right away, and neither did I. There was something about the way her fingers were wrapped in mine that made me feel like I had just pulled her back from the edge of something dangerous. I wanted to ask her about what Blake had said to her out there, but I could tell she wasn’t ready to talk. So I stayed quiet and let her decide when or if she would eventually tell me about it.By the time we got to her room, she looked exhausted. Her shoulders were slumped, and her eyes looked heavy already. She didn’t even argue when I told her to get some rest. She just nodded and pulled the blanket over her body. I took a seat in the chair by her bed, planning to stay only until she fell asleep. But she drifted off to sleep even faster than I expected. One moment her eyes were half open as she stared at the ceiling, and the next her breathing had slowed into a soft rhythm. Her lips were parted slightly, and her chest

AVAThere was nothing but silence after Roman spoke. His words made me freeze instantly. They felt deeper than any growl. My breath caught in my throat. The air felt heavier and sharper as both of them stared at me, waiting.I just stood there, shaking. My chest felt so tight, and all I could focus on right in that moment was their stares and the pull of the bond. The world seemed to shrink down to this single moment. My throat closed up and my heart pounded. Both brothers stared at me, waiting for something I didn’t have to give. I couldn’t breathe under the weight of their eyes. I couldn’t even think with their scents washing over me and overwhelming me, while their bond pulled me in opposite directions.“I can’t—” The words caught in my throat. My chest felt like it was being hammered in. I turned to the door before either of them could say another word.My feet carried me away fast, as I walked down the hallway and went out through the back exit. The cool air washed over me like

AVAA few days passed before I felt the change in the air. The whispers that followed me down the hall were soft at first, then they got louder when people thought I wasn’t listening. A lot of eyes scrutinized me as I carried on with my normal life in the pack house. Some of them were filled with curiosity, while others were full of judgment. The air itself seemed heavier because of everything that was going on.I knew they didn’t mean for me to hear all of it, but I heard almost everything they said anyway.“She’s too close to them.”“No girl should spend that much time with the three of them.”“It isn’t natural.”“She’s cursed.”“She’s way too favored.”The words played over and over in my head, tangling together, until I couldn’t tell which of them hurt worse. I kept my head up and pretended not to care, but deep down in me, I felt all of it. Somehow, their looks affected me even more than the words. Some pitied me. Some wanted me gone. While others just wanted to see what would

ROMANI told myself I was only taking Ava to the gym so she could train. That was the excuse I gave her, even though my hands were already shaking before I got to the door. The truth was, I needed a way to let out the storm inside me, and I knew sparring with her would be the only thing that came even close to helping. She walked in behind me quietly, watching me too closely. I hated that she could see through me so easily. I tossed her a pair of gloves, deciding not to say much. She caught them and then lifted her brows like she knew we weren’t just here for training.“Put them on,” I said. My voice came out rougher than I wanted it to, but I didn’t take my words back or apologize. She hesitated for a second but she eventually slipped them over her hands, anyway. “You’re mad at me again,” she muttered.I didn’t answer. I just directed all my attention on pulling my gloves over my own hands. I wasn’t mad at her, not really. I was mad at myself. At Zade and Axel. And most especially,

AVAThe silence after we heard the footsteps stop in front of the library door stretched on for too long. My heart kept beating hard against my rib cage fast like I’d just run across the training field, but all I had done was kiss Roman and Zade until I couldn’t breathe. Their warmth still clung to me, their touches felt like they had been burned into my skin, and my lips tingled from being claimed in more ways than I could explain. My body went still, and my heart kept racing. Zade shifted, his hand tightening on my waist like he was ready to fight whoever dared walk in. Roman’s whole body was tense. Finally, the knob turned, and the door creaked open.Blake stepped inside as calm as ever. His blond hair fell into his eyes, and his mouth was curved up into a smirk. His eyes roamed over me first, taking in my flushed face, my swollen lips, and the way I stood in between the people he thought to be his rivals. When his gaze moved to Roman and Zade, he looked almost bored.“Well,” Bla
