Chapter 5: Damien finds out the truth

"No I know what I saw," he said and proceeded to his room.

Back at the hospital, Chantel went to see their father and Ruth tried to eat something after Chantel's coaxing. At ICU, Chantel stood behind the door looking at Mr Brown from the glass window. She frowned wondering how he was still alive. He had wanted to kidnap one of them to torment and run the other person bankrupt but this outcome was also good. She just needs to cover her tracks so nothing is traced to her. 

She left the ICU and joined her sister in the ward. At 10 pm, Chantel left for home with what was left of the food as they agreed to take turns spending the night with their parents. Chantel called Ruth to inform her she had safely arrived at home and told her she will be at the hospital by 8 am in the morning with breakfast. 

She took a shower after the call and lie on the bed. Her phone rang and checking the caller ID she smiled. 

"Hello," she said with a smile

"Hello my angel, how are you doing," asked the person from the other end of the call

"I am doing very well. Just waiting for everything to end so I can leave this hell hole," she said making a disgusting face

"Patience my angel. You just need to put up with them a little longer. I would find a way to get you out of the house without," said the person

"I look forward to that. I am tired of this pretence. If I have to see those two evil people again, I am afraid I terminate their life. I will be spending the night with the woman tomorrow," she announced 

"No, my angel. If you do that you will mess up our plan and you will end up in prison. I don't want that for you. I want everything to look as natural as possible. Just trust me on this one and be patient. I will send you some money, get the boys to execute the next plan," the person said

"Sure, but I call them with clear instructions do they don't mess this one up too like they did the first one," she said 

"Okay, get some rest and know that in a couple of days, they will get what they deserve and you will be free," assured the person and the call ended. 

Chantel covered herself with the blanket and drifted off to sleep. 

The next morning, Chantel was awakened from her sleep by a phone call from her sister. She checked the time and realized it was 9 am. She answered the call

"Hello Sis, where are you?" came Ruth's worried voice

"I am getting ready to leave the house. I couldn't sleep last night so I took some sleeping pills. I will be there soon. How are Mum and Dad?" she asked 

"I understand. Dad woke up this morning and the doctor said he is recovering very well. He just needs some time and he will be fine. They are running some tests on Mum. She is getting a red patch on her right eye. Aside, from that they are fine but I received some bad news this morning," she added 

"What happened," Chantel enquired 

"You remember I mentioned I filled out a form for a charity foundation to help us pay the medical bills," she began

"What? They say they won't support?" Chantel asked with traces of anger in her voice

Ruth was used to her by now. She easily gets angry when things are not going her way

"Well, they have said nothing about that yet but their investigation revealed the accident was planned. Someone wants to harm our parents," she announced 

"What!" Chantel exclaimed 

"What did they say?" Chantel asked trying to understand how much information they have gathered from the investigation and if any of their findings linked her to the crime. 

"Well, nothing much. I was invited over to their office this morning and all they told me was the driver of the track was found dead this morning. They also found out that prior to the accident, a huge amount of money was paid into the driver's account but the source of the payment could not be traced," she informed her

"You don't say? What else did they find out?" she asked very interested in the outcome of the investigation

"Well, they have handed it over to the police to continue seeing it's a case of attempted murder and not a normal accident," she replied 

"Wow, I can't believe that I will be there shortly," she said and ended the call. 

She immediately dialled the number that had called her the night before.

"Hello, the issue have being reported to the police. The driver was terminated as planned but they could not finish carrying out the money revisal. They already suspect foul play. The police have been involved. What do we do?" she said as soon as the call connected

"Don't worry, I make a few calls. That investigation is going nowhere," the person said 

"I am getting ready to go to the hospital. I will let you know if I found out anything," she said and ended the call but heard some noise. 

She quickly move to the window to check but saw nothing. She opened the front door and scanned the environment but saw nothing. She went back inside and closed the door shut but stood behind the door and checked the peephole. She Damien sneaked out of the compound

"You had to get yourself involved," she said slapping her forehead. 

She quickly typed a message to someone and went to get ready to leave for the hospital. She orders some food for breakfast. 

Damien hailed a taxi back to his house processing what she had just heard. What is Chantel up to? He had heard the news of Chantel and Ruth's parents' accident the previous night and he came around with the hope of finding out which hospital and what happened only to hear the conversation between Chantel on someone about terminating a driver. 

"So Chantel has something to do with their parents' accident?" he thought on his way home. 

Just a distance away from his house another car crushed into his car making the car summersault a couple of times and landing on another side of the road. Damien was not in a seat belt and hence was thrown out of the vehicle resulting in his death. 

Chantel was on her way to the hospital when her phone buzzed. She answered the call

"It's done," she heard the person say after the call was connected and the side of her lips curled upwards.
