MEANDRA

I couldn’t stop myself.

It was as though the flickering awareness of my surroundings was blurred, and I was no longer in control of my body. Before I even knew what I was doing, my feet had begun to move. The space between us—once charged with uncertainty, and the silence of too many unsaid things—began to shrink with every step I took toward her.

Shantai didn’t move. She stood still, unmoving and unflinching.

My hands reached out before I could even think of why.

They hovered at first, hesitant, trembling. Then they touched her. My arms slid across the curve of her back, one hand rising to cradle her shoulders while the other pressed gently against her spine. She was here.

I pulled her body flush against mine. My cheek rested beside hers. I felt the rise and fall of her chest, the subtle tension in her muscles, the cautious way her breath caught between us. But still, she didn’t push me away.

My lips curved. A smile bloomed across my face before I even realized it. I coul

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   PROLOGUE/INTRO

For years, every kingdom suffered under the regime of tyrant King Elijah. He whipped women, took the men as nothing but drum fetchers. The entire eight kingdoms were under him and he did no good. He was a bad king to his own Kingdom, and a worser one to others. Until six years ago, when he was finally brought down and killed by Lord Alejandro, a child he had undermined so badly. As punishment for him not having a male heir, the Lords took his one and only daughter, Meandra, and declared that she suffers the sins of her father. She’s to serve each kingdom for a year, as a slave nonetheless, tortured and broken just like her father did them. But with one thing never to be touched. Just one.———————-PROLOGUE“Get up,” he sneered at the woman curled against the wall, her hair looking so unkept and covering the entirety of her face. Her head moved in a slow motion, her orbs looking so dead as she looked up at him, blinking once before staring into his eyes. For a moment, he let himself

MEANDRA’S POVI winced at the burning sensation that I felt on the palms of my hand. I don't know how much time had passed and I had no idea how much time would be left if I'm done with feeling the drums. I could hear the not so subtle snickers and the cackling of the guards in the background. I knew my hands were probably going to be swollen in the morning but I couldn't find it in me to care. If anything I anticipated the pain that would follow, each time I pulled the fetcher from the well. I could already feel my body becoming weak with exhaustion but I didn't allow myself to linger on the feeling. I don't know how long time had passed but from the look of the moon, I could tell that it was approaching the wee hours of the morning.“Should probably consider taking her in for the night. Been long since I had some entertainment,” I heard one of the guards laugh. Even though I tried to show no emotion, no matter how much I tried to feel nothing. I still felt the cold shudder trav

MEANDRA’S POVA gasp escaped me at the feel of the cold icy sensation that pierced through me. My eyes fluttered open almost immediately and I hurriedly adjusted in a sitting position. My heart was suspended in a state of frenzy and panic. When I was finally able to get a hold of my bearings. I raised my head to look up at the guard that glared at me like I was the filth of the earth. My eyes shut closed for a moment as I tried to regain some composure. I shivered as what was left of my clothes glued to my skin.I was soaked and drenched in ice water. I bit hard on my bottom lip to stop my teeth from going to have to get some sort of control. “Are you just going to keep sitting there or am I going to have to drag you out, my fucking self,” he growled, baring his yellow teeth at me. I was heavy with exhaustion and my muscles screamed in protest as I forced myself to rise up from the ground. This wasn't the time to allow my mind to linger on the exhaustion that threatened to consume

ALEJANDRO’S POVI was certain that I had stopped breathing for a moment. My heart raced within the confines of my chest. I could barely comprehend what was going on in front of me. My gaze lingered on the beautiful swell of her breasts and they trailed down her supple, soft, beautiful, pale skin. “What the hell do you think you're doing?” The words slipped from my lips, harsh and laced with growing frustration, as I tilted my head slightly to the side. My gaze swept over her, taking in every inch of her still, silent figure. But it was her face that held me captive—her expression, which was devoid of any emotion. No fear. No surprise. Not even a hint of hesitation or regret. It was as though she were completely indifferent to everything around her. That hollow, unreadable look in her eyes unsettled me more than anything. Something about it gnawed at me, twisting my insides in a way I couldn’t quite place. Why was she so... blank?I waited, expecting some kind of response, but she re

ALEJANDRO The longer I thought about it all, the more my anger intensified. As the minutes passed, it became more and more harder to contain it. I wondered how I was able to stop myself from exploding until now. The room was silent along with my two advisors who stood with folded hands, waiting expectantly for whatever I had to say next. “I want you to send letters to the lords. To all of them, requesting their presence immediately,” I said. Surprise flashed across Elias's face before his expression became neutral. “Whatever my lord wants,” he bowed slightly. “Don't you think that this would cause some odd tension between you and the other lords? Having sex with a slave is the most common thing anyone could do. It would be absurd to gather everyone here because of a slave,” Malachi said dismissively. I froze and turned around until my glare was fixated on him. Any anger that I thought I might have felt earlier intensified. Elias swallowed nervously and looked away from me immed

MEANDRA’S POV The guard's grip on my arm was unyielding, his face contorted with disdain as he propelled me through the dimly lit corridors. My mind was a whirlpool of confusion. First, the Lord had me dressed and refrained from touching me, a stark contrast to what I had known. Then, he had summoned me to inquire about the First Lord. And now, I was being escorted to an unknown destination. I was confused and quite anxious. We arrived at a grand dining hall, one of such overwhelming luxury. The guard gestured tersely toward a chair. "Sit!" he commanded, his voice dripping with contempt. Before I could ask questions, a maid approached me, her demeanour polite yet cold. "What would you like to eat?" she inquired. I blinked in surprise. Eating was a luxury I seldom experienced, especially not before completing my assigned tasks. The drum of water remained unfinished, and the thought of punishment instantly materialized in my head. "I'm not hungry," I replied cautiously. "Please,

MEANDRAMy eyes fluttered open slightly. I was not as weary and exhausted as I was before. Maybe I had gotten more sleep than usual. Normally, It would be a good thing but at this point, I'm just wondering why I had to sleep in for so long or why I was just allowed to.I caught sight of Alejandro and a woman talking and I quickly closed my eyes so I could listen in on whatever they were talking about.“She seems to be recovering slowly but there are signs of forced penetration from her last sexual encounter and lingering signs of an infection as well,” she sighed. Silence lingered for a moment.“But I'll look into further and we should be able to get it treated in the space of a week and some days,” the doctor assured Alejandro.“If you're planning to be intimate with her. She should be fully recovered anytime soon,” she said. The thought of Alejandro wanting to have sex with me, made my breath get caught in my throat. The thought of being in the same space or room with him always ma

ALEJANDRO“Thank you,” I hear her faint voice. It was barely audible, almost a whisper but I pretended not to hear it as I shot her an empty look except now that my gaze was fixated on hers, there was something about the way she looked at me.Her eyes weren't empty like they usually were, there was some sort of emotion in them. Some sort of gratitude. I raised an eyebrow in her in question as I glared at her.“Thank you,” she repeated again.“I'm not sure anyone has ever done that for me before. I-” she paused as she looked down at her hands nervously. She seemed at a loss for what to say. My jaw was clenched and I found myself unsatisfied by her gratitude, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her to me not so gently, closing the proximity between us.“Don't make the mistake of thinking I did anything for you so your appreciation is only waste of time. I did this because I like order and I don't like my rules being broken. This doesn't change what your father has done and this certainly d

MEANDRAIt could have been worse. I tried to reassure myself. It was not completely what I wanted but at the same time. It could have been worse.“Shantai,” before I could stop Belle from standing up too quickly, she hurried to the doorway where Shantai stood.Shantai had time to accommodate her in her arms before the both of them were knocked off balance, in a tangle of hands and legs. I held my breath. For a second, the whole room was shrouded in silence and then out of the blue, Belle began to laugh before Shantai joined in.There was no explanation for how it happened but the corners of my lips were beginning to tilt up into a smile. A much wider one that I didn't think that I was capable of. I closed my eyes and sighed. The confines of my chest felt very light.“What are you still doing there? Join us,” Belle stretched out her hand with a huge smile. Her eyes twinkled with amusement and delight. I wasn't so sure I could remember the last time I witnessed life in her eyes.I didn'

MEANDRAI could feel my heart pounding in my ears as I hurried down the hallway with Belle's frail hand in mine. I knew she was too weak to run but I couldn't, wouldn't take the risk of leaving her behind at the mercy of Jasquire. Not when I could feel the sound of her hasty steps hurrying behind me. I wasn't going to let Shantai be blamed for something that she had no knowledge of. Not when she mattered so much to Belle. Not when she had come to matter so much to me. If anything, I felt something shift within me. Calling it determination was a bit of a stretch but I could tell that it was a very strong emotion. One that I couldn't let go of.“Come back here this instant,” Jasquire's loud voice pierced through the silence of the hallway. But her command held no weight and thank goodness, that I still remember what freewill felt like because I was never going to do what she needed me to do.“Alejandro,” his name slipped from Belle's lips again. Louder this time. We could still hear Jas

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 51

MEANDRAAlejandro hadn’t been the same since Jasquire accused Shantai of drugging Belle.I saw it in the way his eyes dulled around her, the way his shoulders stiffened when she entered a room, even if she only came to collect something she’d forgotten. There was no fury, no loud accusations—just silence.A thick, impenetrable wall of silence that said more than rage ever could. He didn’t yell. He was simply silent and that was even more dangerous.Shantai had once been the only other person in Belle’s life who acted like family—not duty, not title. Just care. But now, Alejandro forbade her from even hrt Belle’s room. When Belle woke from fevered sleep, reaching for Shantai’s hand, it was mine she found instead. I had been the one to tuck the cool cloth beneath her brow. I was the one taking care of her.And Shantai had been sent to scrub linens in the laundry room.It wasn’t right.I watched her each time she passed Belle’s room on her way to and from the wash station. Her fingers wo

JASQUIREImmediately after stepping out of the room, my heart began racing and it became hard to hide my expression. The weight of what had just happened still pressed down on my chest. I walked quickly but not too quickly, careful not to draw attention to myself. My feet barely made a sound against the old wooden floor.“Father,” I called softly, my voice barely rising above a whisper. I glanced around, hoping no one had heard me. “Father...” I repeated, a little louder this time.I hesitated when I heard the sound—a faint shuffle. My breath caught mid-step. It came from behind me, close, too close. Every instinct screamed for me to turn around, to see who—or what—was there. But I didn’t.I forced myself to remain still, eyes fixed aheadTurning too quickly would only confirm suspicion. Whoever was behind me might already be watching, waiting for that one flinch, that one giveaway glance. So I stayed rigid, pretending not to notice.I shifted slightly, just enough to seem casual. My

MEANDRAHis loud, hasty footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing louder with every passing second. Relief swelled in my chest like a tide. I knew that sound better than I knew my own name.Alejandro.I bent over Belle. Her head lolled slightly, her breath shallow but wrong—too slow, too forced, like her body had to remember how to keep going.“Alejandro is coming,” I whispered, voice catching in my throat. I reached out, brushing back a stray lock of hair from her damp forehead, then gently tapped her cheek with the tips of my fingers. “Hey, stay with me, Belle. He’s almost here, alright? You’re going to be fine. I promise.”Her eyelids fluttered. She didn’t speak, butshe moved her head in a sluggish nod. A low, airy hum slipped through her lips—a soft, desperate sound that nearly shattered me. Her eyes weren’t completely shut. She was trying.Trying so hard not to give in. To stay awake. To stay alive. The door behind us banged open.Alejandro burst in, his chest heaving, his ey

MEANDRAI took in multiple breaths, finally being able to breathe properly. The hallway outside Alejandro’s room was silent, filled with only the thud of my footsteps as I rushed away. The air felt thinner here, less suffocating than the thick tension I’d just escaped. But I wasn’t steady yet.My mind still reeled from the sight of Jasquire, her calculated smile, the way Alejandro had shoved her hand away — the sound of it still echoed behind my ribs. I moved down the hallway with slow, measured steps, the worn floorboards creaking faintly beneath my feet.Would she come after me? My mind was still stuck on what had happened, wondering..Would Jasquire storm down that hallway, furious and entitled, simply because she had seen me with him? My mind circled around the image—her eyes narrowing, lips twisting in that too-sweet smile that never quite reached her gaze. I had seen that look before.I didn’t even realize I had stopped walking until I felt the cold bite of air on my skin. M

  • The Tyrant’s Broken Princess   CHAPTER 47

MEANDRAThe silence in the room was thick, almost suffocating, pierced only by the sound of heavy, uneven breathing — mine. Then came the sharp crack of a door slamming.I flinched violently. The sudden noise echoed through the quiet, jolting my already-frayed nerves. My head snapped to the side, eyes darting toward the source of the sound. The bathroom door — just slightly ajar now — glowed faintly from the light inside. He had gone in there. I saw his silhouette disappear behind the frame, followed by the hush of running water.I looked away facing the door.I blinked, letting out a shaky breath, though it did little to calm me. If anything, the air tasted stale and bitter, like I was breathing in guilt. My shoulders sagged with relief, but it was short-lived.My hands still trembled. The fear hadn’t yet worn off. I could feel it in the way my fingertips twitched when I tried to brush my hair out of my face.I was trying to gather myself, to feel normal, but my body refused to obey.

MeandraI snapped my eyes open. My eyebrows furrowed immediately I stared up at the unfamiliar lights above my head. I didn’t have these types of lights in my room.A deep, uneasy feeling stirred inside me. I wiggled my fingers, clenching them tightly into fists and then relaxing them, trying to gain control of my body, trying to make everything feel real.Everything started coming back to me in fragments, flooding my mind in blurry flashes. Panic gripped my chest as I struggled to push myself into a sitting position.I passed out... I remembered that much.I had been holding onto someone — someone warm, someone breathing — but who? Who could that have been? My mind raced, trying to piece the puzzle together, as my eyes wandered around the familiar yet unfamiliar room.Everything wasn’t exactly clear, but it wasn’t blurry either — just a sickening, foggy in-between.My head pounded, every throb sending sharp waves of pain through my temples. But despite the hammering inside my skull,
