Chapter Five: Huxley

BRIELLE's POV

The ride to Pierxly Corporations was a slow and somber one. I wished it would be slower as I felt like I was nearing a slaughter house.

Miss Daren ignored me completely, her perfectly manicured fingers typing away on her phone. I wondered what her role was in the company. Manager? Senior staff? The CEO’s secretary?

I wondered what the CEO was like. While I researched on the company I had hardly found any pictures of him, only a few shots of his hands, legs, beard- weird. It was like they were intentionally hiding him away from the public eye. What I did not understand was why. I had not bothered to make further research as I felt the type of work I applied for would not require me meeting the CEO. But here I was.

“H…how is he like?” I squeaked out, wondering if it was okay to ask such questions.

“Who?” Miss Daren dragged her eyes away from her phone to me.

“The CEO,” I said.

She shrugged. “He is alright. Why?”

Because I am about to shit my pants from anxiety, was what I wanted to say but shut up.

One of the rules of getting past an interview was not showing how nervous one was, Roxanne, my wolf reminded me. So I had to pull myself together and put in my best.

But what if I did not get the job? What if the Alpha’s rejection followed me again? I was close. So close.

YOU WILL BE FINE. NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GO OVER YOUR PITCH AGAIN. Roxanne growled.

Good point. I should not be caught grabbing straws, I needed solid points if I wanted to at least make an effort.

The car soon stopped before a building. As I got out, I realized that the building was the tallest building in the city. The building anyone could see from anywhere in the city. The Pierxly Tower.

“Whoa,” I found myself mouthing.

“Let us go.” Miss Daren told me, already waltzing into the building. How could she not stop and stare? I was sure that even working here for six months would not stop me from gaping at the wonder every morning when I resumed work.

The inside of the building was sparkly and spotless. I could not believe they wanted us to touch up the already perfect theme. Did they have that much money to throw around?

It was not my business anyway. My company needed this job and they were providing it.

The ebony woman punched in the numbers five and six and the doors shut close. In a split second, it pulled open again and we stepped out.

“Good morning, Kamara.” Miss Daren said to the receptionist. “Please provide this lady with whatever she needs. Is the boss in?” She inquired.

When Kamara nodded, Miss Daren tapped twice on the sturdy wooden door and entered. Kamara asked me if I needed anything and I replied in the negative. I was too nervous to think of anything else.

Miss Daren walked out a moment later. “The boss will see you now.”

I stood up as she ushered me into the tastefully furnished office. Everything scented of rich leather and money.

A man sat at the huge desk but his swivel chair was turned so he faced the wall behind him. He was making a phone call and even though I felt I was hallucinating, the voice sounded awfully familiar.

It could not be. I was definitely imagining things. Probably this was the bad luck again, trying to push me off my game. I would not allow it.

The man’s rich laughter resonated across the room. “I will let you know when I will be in town again. We should meet up then for business. And pleasure.” He added the last part after a pause. “Alright then. It is an honor, Cody.” And then he clicked the end button.

“Sir, the applicant from JB Polymath Venture is here.” Miss Daren introduced.

When he turned around in his chair, I felt all the blood drain from my skin. My chest constricted and it was getting harder to breathe by the second.

“Sir, this is Miss Brielle Levine. Miss Levine, this is our CEO, Mr. Huxley Pierce.”

My heart thumped louder in my chest as the realization hit me. I should have known. Pierxly was Huxley Pierce.
