Vivienne quickly washed her anger away and smiled.

A spark of interest lit her face as she stepped forward to call him.

“Doctor, please excuse me,” she said calmly, her tone suddenly respectful.

Lina, her assistant, was shocked. Vivienne rarely addressed anyone in their circle with that kind of respectful tone—let alone some ordinary doctor who looked poor. She gave a small shrug.

Adrian paused and turned. His face looked like he had no time to waste, but his deep eyes rested on her as if he saw her for the first time. She looked stunning—her figure was the perfect blend of elegance and confidence. Adrian swallowed hard, feeling the tug of attraction at the sight of her graceful posture and glowing skin.

“Dr…?” she said, prompting him again.

Adrian didn’t catch what she meant at first.

“Doctor, what’s your name?” she repeated, a soft smile playing at her lips. Her dimples showed as her bright eyes sparkled, making every man wish he could see her smile just once.

“Just call me Adrian Foster, Mrs.,” he replied, coughing lightly as if to steady himself.

Vivienne’s smile widened as she noticed how her presence affected him.

“Oh, you’re such a simple person. And quite skilled. Your type of talent is rare.” She said with a smile. “How come you’re just a casual worker… I mean…” She tried not to sound rude, choosing her words carefully.

Lina leaned closer, cutting the tension.

“Mrs. Lancaster, there really is an emergency,” she chimed in, her expression urgent.

“What’s that?” Vivienne frowned, switching her gaze quickly from Lina back to Adrian.

A surge of inconvenience flickered across Adrian’s eyes, but he said nothing.

“John, your younger brother just messaged me—your father’s illness has worsened. He’s been coughing up blood even more,” Lina said, her voice low with urgency.

Vivienne’s face turned pale, her frustration clear. Mr. Alex Lancaster had been fighting a mysterious illness that even the top doctors of Verelux City couldn’t identify. Many had tried to cure him, hoping to earn the Lancaster family’s favor, but none had succeeded. Some even said it was beyond medicine. Even top doctors from other countries has tried but they could only leave with the word, it’s a serious matter than just a professional doctor could handle. He’s been battling with the illness for over eight years now.

“Okay, give me a minute,” she said, her voice tight with worry.

She’d always feared for her father’s health. The family had done everything they could—even Mr Alex Lancaster himself had told them to move on, that when the time was right, he’d leave. But Vivienne wasn’t ready to give up. She couldn’t let go.

She turned to Adrian and managed a small smile.

“Dr. Foster, I have a present for you personally,” she said with a chuckle.

Lina stood confused at Vivienne’s light expression. Vivienne wasn’t the type to pretend everything was fine, especially when her father was critically ill. She was never the playful type with strangers.

Before Adrian could speak, Vivienne interrupted.

“And since you’re a very skilled doctor, I’d need you to come by and see my father’s condition,” she added.

Adrian shifted, unsure if she was serious or just caught up in emotion. A part of him didn’t care for such invitations—most people only knew to praise the hospital or Dr. Franklin. They saw him as a nobody. But here was Vivienne, ignoring her own pride and recognizing him.

“Mrs. Vivienne, isn’t it too much to invite a mere doctor like Adrian to treat your honorable father?” Dr. Franklin said with a sarcastic laugh, his eyes filled with disdain. “Even I wouldn’t dare to lay hands on him—what makes you think a man like Adrian, who can barely feed himself as a lowly doctor, could do what I cannot?”

Vivienne raised a hand to silence him.

“I didn’t ask for your opinion, Dr. Franklin.”

She reached into her handbag and pulled out a sleek black card.

“Dr. Adrian, please—this is a token of my appreciation for saving my sister. I’d like to see you again to thank you properly,” she said, offering him the card with a warm smile.

Adrian hesitated. Most would have dismissed him without a second thought, but Vivienne was different. Despite her status, she didn’t ignore him. He took the card and slipped it into his pocket without a second glance.

“Thanks,” he muttered.

He had refused many people who offered him such appreciation whenever he saves their lives. They’d offer a token of appreciation sometimes as a mansion or expensive items.

David’s envy twisted his expression.

“What? Are you crazy? You ungrateful bastard—you should kneel and thank Mrs. Vivienne right now!” Dr. Franklin snapped.

The Lancaster card was a direct entrance to their empire. Anyone who had it was treated as a VVIP guest, a privilege even executives had to work years to earn.

Vivienne raised her hand again. “No need for that.”

She looked directly at Adrian. “And Dr. Foster, if my father’s health worsens, I’ll personally invite you to treat him. Please—can I have your number?” She handed him her phone.

Dr. Franklin, David, and Lina were all shocked. Even the city’s top elites had asked for Vivienne’s number, only to be politely turned down. But here she was, treating Adrian like gold.

“Mrs. Vivienne, he’s just trying to use you!” David barked. “This freeloader was dumped by his ex wife—he’s nothing but a coward who leeches off women. He’s only trying to get to you too!”

How did he find out so soon that Lyra had divorced him? Adrian thought. It's not thhhat strange in Vereluxe city, a city where information competes with the speed of lights.

But he fell silent as Vivienne’s dangerous gaze met his. He knew better than to push her further. Gritting his teeth, he walked away.

After typing his number, Adrian handed the phone back calmly.

“I’ll leave now,” he said, his voice steady and low as he turned and walked into the operating room.

Vivienne’s smile lingered, her eyes soft with something unspoken. She looked like she’d just discovered a treasure as she hurried away to check on her father’s condition.

A few days ago, Lya sat alone in the parlor, just staring blankly at the chandelier hanging from the ceiling as if she wanted to inhale the refreshing air that blew around her. Her mind was unsettled as she kept looking up at the ceiling, and then a string of tears started to form in her eyes. “What the hell is wrong with me?” Lyra muttered to herself as she laughed a nervous laugh meant to hide her reasons for tearing up at that moment. She just couldn’t help it sometimes. She would always end up thinking about it over and over again, as though her memories would never let her forget already. It had been four years now since the day Lyra met Adrian for the first time. They didn’t know each other yet when she stepped out of her car that day after being summoned by her grandmother, who had become a bit obsessive while standing at the verge of death. Lyra couldn’t complain, though—after all, it was the least s

The reason Lyra was the only granddaughter Mrs. Lane had left was something Lyra herself didn’t understand. The old woman was cruel to all her children, and she disowned each of them as though they were never a part of her family. In fact, she could say the only reason why her mother was still able to remain in the Lanes’ property was because of her. The kind of connection that existed between them was something Lyra couldn’t understand, but it seemed as though the old woman was trusting her with everything she had built. After the forth and back of their little argument, Lyra grew tired of it. She really didn’t want to make things more difficult for the old woman who was fighting critical health issues. “Okay, I’ll think about it,” Lyra said to the old woman, hoping these words would help her get off the hook at least for the rest of the day. “Ah, I know that you’re always a good girl. Be quick and prepare

Adrian and Steve finally entered the parlor after they were done discussing the matter. Steve felt this was a very serious situation they were in right now, and that’s why he believed discussing it in a more secure place was a better option. He just wasn’t sure how the others would react to something like this anyway. But with the way Adrian, as usual, disregarded his concerns as though they were nothing but mere worries, it even made him feel like he might have just wasted Adrian’s time bringing him here—when he’d expected something important, and clearly what Steve told him now wasn’t even a bother to him at all.If only Steve could change Adrian’s mind about staying here any longer. He really had a feeling that things might just take a worse turn with the enemies from other kingdoms. To Steve, he always saw those people as enemies no matter how Adrian would say that they were friends as well because they were all the same humans after all. Once Adrian arrived with Vivienne, Steve quickly approached him.“Master, there’s something I must show you,” Steve said in a worried tone.He only slightly nodded his head to greet Vivienne. She’d anticipated how she’d greet Mr. Steve once she met him, as though she’d been preparing the smile she’d use, but his reaction totally caught her off guard, and she couldn’t help but stare at him, wondering what got him so worried.“Just head into the parlor. Seralyth and Amanda will keep you company. I’ll be back soon,” Adrian said to her.And that’s why she was the only one who entered the room without Adrian by her side.Adrian followed Steve as he led him to the vault room where Adrian had trained Seralyth and Amanda. The space was wide and vast, with many other sections apart from the one that looked like a sparring room where weapons like swords and shields could be seen placed on the wall.“It’s come to my notice tha

In a dark room that had almost no source of light except a candle that flickered under the pressure of the air that subtly blew.Despite the day being bright outside, the room was completely covered from the sun.Mr. Ronan sat on a one-sitter chair at the edge of the room. His white beads made his face recognizable even in the poor sight of the room.“You failed to invite him over. Do you know how important this is to me?” he said in a deep tone as his face tightened.Mr. Antony stood a few feet away from him, looking helpless and unable to speak.“Just one single person, and you can’t handle him.” Ronan groaned in a deeper tone as his anger grew even more.In truth, Mr. Antony had anticipated that it’d be the easiest thing to get Adrian to come down to his house if he wanted. After all, he had once gotten Adrian to come by, and he was sure that Vivienne’s name was enough to make him curious. So, he thought that just ca

The bright ray of sunset cast its glimmering glow over the window as it penetrated the curtain that covered it, brightening the atmosphere.Waking up to the brightness of a fresh new day, the smell of anticipation could be felt in the air. After dinner yesterday, Vivienne had finally decided to leave for the city with Adrian today, and she woke up with that energetic anticipation for the new day. In no time, she prepared all she needed. Her bag was ready as she finally stepped out of her room. The scent of bread that Emily’s mother was preparing filled the whole place.Everyone was up already and working in the house.Adrian also got himself into assisting Mr. Simon, who was clearing the grass in front of their house. The guards joined in as they all cheerfully worked together as though they’d all been family for a very long time.“You really are a gentleman. But I just want to tell you, please, no matter what, don’t ev
