Thirty Eight

Asher’s POV

I stood at my office, staring sightlessly out the window as I thought about what Brent said to me. He was sitting right behind me in one of the chairs from across my desk, but right now, I didn’t want to face him.

“You really shouldn't turn away from me, you know that right?” he said behind me and I almost grunted. What was he talking about? I didn’t turn away from him because of his words, I just turned to think about it.

Or maybe that was what I did, but he shouldn’t blame me. He would have probably done the same thing if he was in my shoes.

“I'll keep telling you this, May isn’t the woman you think she is. I'm sure you can already tell from the void she's left in you, except you don't want to admit it,” he said.

“What void are you even talking about,” I asked, turning to look at him over my shoulder. I was looking at him as if he didn’t have an inkling of what he was spewing out of his mouth.
