ADRIANS POV.

An arm shoved me aside, and I watched as the bullet hit Romano in the chest.

“Fuck!”

I quickly reached for the gun in my holster and fired at the man who had shot him.

The shooter ran sprinting for a black van that screeched to a halt near us.

“Cut them off!” I shouted, still firing. I landed a shot on the bastard just as Victor bolted after the van, which sped off recklessly to get out of the parking lot.

Gunshots echoed in the air. I aimed low and shot at the tires. The van jolted, one tire blown, but the driver kept going. Smoke and shredded rubber followed them just outside the gates.

They were gone.

My men and VPA security stormed into the parking area, but it was too late.

“Fuck!” I yelled, running a hand through my hair as I turned back to Romano. He was unconscious, the bullet hitting somewhere vital. I dropped to my knees, and put two fingers against his neck. Slow staggared breaths.

He was alive but barely.

His brown shirt was stained red, blood staining around

ADRIAN’S POV“Did you think I wouldn’t find out? An attack on VPA? What the fuck is wrong with you? Even the fucking children know we don’t take underground business to the front companies!”My father’s voice boomed through the speaker, loud enough to make the walls vibrate. God, how I hated his voice… always yelling, always posturing, like sheer volume could make up for the fact that he was a fucking coward. After that shitshow of a conversation with Kira, I’d locked myself in my study, hoping to drown my thoughts in a bottle of Irish scotch.I hate Irish scotch. Tastes like piss and regret. But that’s beside the point.I hadn’t even gotten past my second glass before one of my underbosses, Romarco, started calling. Unfortunately, my sperm donor was behind the call instead. Now I was five minutes into a one-man monologue about how I’d been dodging his calls and apparently plotting to destroy the empire from within.God, I really didn’t need this shit right now.“Answer me, boy! Was t

  • The Untypical Marriage    Chapter 78

Kira’s POVThis is bad. This is really bad.My mind raced as I stared at myself in the large bathroom mirror, my reflection looking just as wrecked as I felt. My hair was a tangled mess, my eyes were swollen, and every inch of my body ached… especially between my thighs, though that ache had a dangerous, shameful satisfaction to it.The last twenty-four hours felt like a fever dream. A really unhinged, crazy, what-the-hell-was-I-thinking kind of dream. If I went to a neurologist right now, I wouldn’t be shocked if they diagnosed me with brain damage. That would at least explain my behavior.I tried to push the thought away as I grabbed the hairbrush and began working through the knots on my head, but my reflection wouldn’t let me off so easily. The moment I glanced back at the mirror, everything from last night came crashing back… like a broken dam flooding over the walls I’d tried to build. The way I’d begged. The way I’d clung to him, desperate and unhinged, drowning in pleasure, an

  • The Untypical Marriage   Chapter 77

KIRA’S POVRing, Ring, Ring…“Ugh,” I groaned, lifting my head toward the source of that annoying sound.I woke up groggy and confused, blinking against the soft light in the room. What time is it? I thought. But the persistent ringing made me want to tear my head off. I looked around at my surroundings. This was Adrian’s room. How did I— Then it hit me. The car. The room… everywhere. The memories flooded in, and I instantly became aware of the soreness in every part of my body.I pushed through it and sat up, my legs aching. I located the sound to the foot of the bed… my phone was ringing on the floor. Without even checking who it was, I lazily reached for it and hit the end button. How did it even get down there? I wondered. Probably tossed during yesterday’s… activities. After that insanely mind-blowing sex in the car, Adrian drove back to the penthouse in complete silence. I don’t know what it was, but I suddenly felt ashamed. And that shame intensified when Adrian dropped me at t

  • The Untypical Marriage   Chapter 76

KIRA’S POV“You bought the bookstore??” I asked, turning to Adrian. “For me??”“I don’t want your clumsy hands messing up my archives in the penthouse,” he said with no emotion whatsoever.I scoffed, “Please. I wouldn’t touch your boring brown books even if I was bored to death. You don’t have to buy a whole bookstore to keep me away.”Adrian leaned lazily on the counter, staring intently at me in amusement. “Said the girl who spent half a million just to get my attention. How am I supposed to trust that now you know about my collection, you won’t attack it on your next rant or tantrum?”Low blow.“you might be right,” I muttered, brushing my hair behind my ear. “But just so you know, buying me an entire bookstore wouldn't protect your boring books, It’s excessive,” I said but he just shrugged like it meant nothing, casually twirling the car keys in his hand. Was he really being serious right now?Realizing he had no intention of continuing our conversation, I turned back to the store

  • The Untypical Marriage   Chapter 75

KIRA’S POVThe drive was slow and tense, maybe because I took thirty minutes to get ready instead of ten. But he didn’t seem pissed… or did he?I raised my gaze from the car’s dashboard to Adrian’s face, his furrowed brows being the first thing I noticed. I glanced at the road and back at him.“Soo…” I tried starting a conversation with him. “Who’s your favourite writer so far?”His furrowed brows eased up as he glanced at me.“So you just assume I have a favourite writer because I stood up for poor Shakespeare?” he smirked, tapping his finger on the steering wheel at intervals. “Or because I’m an unlikely bread and meat combination?” he chuckled softly. So he didn’t think I was going crazy with that explanation.“Maybe??” I replied, opening up my hands.“Pick one, Kira.”My breath hitched, and I turned out the window to hide the redness of my cheeks.“Which is it?”I smiled and turned back to him.“Both of them,” I beamed, maybe because he didn’t turn out mad at me… but I was still c

  • The Untypical Marriage   Chapter 74

KIRA’S POVThe rays from the sun were my not-so-silent alarm… The gentle but pinching feel on my skin stirred me awake, and I shifted away from the light, moving onto the side of the bed where I presumed the sun hadn’t gotten to.My hand comes in contact with something. Moving my hands around, it turns out to be someone.Wait, don’t tell me—I slowly pop my eyes open and stare at Adrian, peacefully asleep before me. He actually slept in my bed.“He ended up sleeping,” I scoffed.“So much for a bed timeframe,” I chuckled. My eyes slowly roamed his face, examining the features. What Antonio had said after Adrian the other day rang in my head. “What must have happened that cost him his trust in people?” I whisper, sitting up.I really wanted to know why he was like this…why he was Adrian. Why everyone was scared of him, and why he refused to open up to anyone. He was like a hard nut to crack, and I was running out of ideas to crack him open.My hand brushes over his body in an attempt to
