MasukWe reached the pack house, where Matt was standing in the driveway, looking worried. Daphne was by his side, and I saw something that resembled pity in her eyes, but it was gone.
“Di, why did you run away?” she hissed, grabbing my right arm, causing me to wince in pain. My arm still hadn’t fully healed from the fall I took last night. Alpha Kennis stopped walking and slowly turned to Matt. “If that woman continues to harass and touch my Luna, I’ll have no choice but to rip her arms off,” He spoke in a voice that sent shivers down everyone's spine, icy and devoid of emotion. His threat made both my sister and Matt go pale. We knew Alpha Kennis could carry out that threat without flinching. He resumed walking, and I followed behind, leaving Matt and Daphne still looking like ghosts. My parents, whom I hadn't seen, had their mouths open in shock, and fear was written on their faces. I had just entered my bedroom when Kennis's voice came through my mind-link, ‘You’re sleeping in my room tonight.’ I was prepared to ignore him, but the more I did, the more I felt his aura pressing down on me, even though he wasn’t in the same room. A terrible headache began to form, and I winced.‘Okay,’ I finally conceded, and the headache relented—that bastard.
I put on the worst pair of pajamas I could find, and didn’t bother brushing my hair. It was a tangled mess. With a heavy, drumming heart, I made my way to his room. On the way there, I ran into Louis.
“I was coming to escort you to his room,” he said with a lopsided smile, but frowned when he saw my outfit. “Why are you wearing such unflattering pajamas? Don’t you want to get lucky?” he winked.
“Funny,” I exhaled. “I know, I’m hilarious, but I was serious,” I didn’t respond again. After what he did to Mark in the woods, I hated him, too. Louis opened the door to Alpha Kennis’s room, and I reluctantly entered. My body shivered at the thought of being in the same room as that ancient Alpha. He was sitting on the sofa, wearing an icy expression sharp enough to cut steel. I stood in the corner of the room. The silence was deafening, and my wolf whimpered inside my mind.“Come here,” he ordered, and my legs moved towards him. He grabbed my chin with his fingers to examine my face. His fingers trailed to my neck, where the mark I loathed lay, and then down to the spot where he had hurt me.
“Your healing is pathetic,” he muttered. It was true. I wasn’t the fastest healer in my pack. He pulled back and watched me for a long time before he spoke again.
“I chose you because you’ll give me the heir I want,” he said as though he was talking about today’s weather. Is that why he had been desperate to get a Luna all of a sudden? I jumped back. “Hell no,” I growled. His expression remained unchanged, ignoring my outburst, “An heir who will continue my bloodline.”
“No,"
“You have no choice in the matter. Your Alpha and family have agreed to it.”
“Not me! I’m sure many other she-wolves would be happy to do that,” I sneered, my anger flaring.
“Just you,” he said.
“Why?” I asked, at the verge of crying, but I refused to let tears fall again.
“Because I say so,”
Kennis's eyes dipped to my lips, and he suddenly pushed me against the wall, his huge muscled frame trapping me. He crashed his lips on me in a savage kiss. I gasped for air, and he used the opportunity to thrust his tongue in my mouth. The kiss was so intense and forceful. I’d never been kissed like this before.
I fought to be released to no avail. My head banged against the wall, making me cry in pain, but Alpha Kennis didn’t stop. His hand closed around my throat as the other went to touch my breasts. I thrashed, but that seemed only to drive him more. I shuddered at the feel of his cock against my stomach. When he finally pulled away and released the hand around my throat, I was panting for air, and my lips were bruised. My eyes glowed with anger. “You're an asshole!” “From now on, you’re mine” Kennis said in a low growl. He extended his knife-like claws to cut through my cotton pajama shirt. Fear, so much fear coursed through me, and the tears I tried to hold back escaped, streaming down my cheeks..He grabbed my breasts in his hand, gently at first.
Suddenly, he lifted me and threw me onto the bed, making me yelp. He hovered over me, but before he could do anything, there was pounding on the door. “Go away!” he roared. The pounding continued. Alpha Kennis growled and got off me. I escaped the bed, quickly gathering my pajamas and running to lock myself in the bathroom. I slid against the door and sat on the cold floor, crying. I wanted to mind-link with my parents to help me out of this situation, but they wouldn’t.The door opened minutes later, and I trembled, holding my mouth to keep me from sobbing. I was sure I had fallen asleep on the bathroom floor, but when I woke, I was in bed… Alone, thank goddess.
I mind-linked Mark to ask how he was doing, and I was relieved to hear he was healing, although the pack doctors were keeping him at the clinic for a few days to observe him.
I clambered out of bed. Luckily, Louis and that other guy weren’t at the door when I left the room.
I was about to open my bedroom door when a hand grabbed me and slammed me into a wall.
Daphne was glaring daggers at me. Her eyes were red, and for the first time, her appearance was a complete mess.
“You’re hurting me,” I growled as I pushed her away with force. Her nails clawed at my skin, but she slammed her back against the wall with a satisfying thud.
“You little bitch! What the fuck did you do? What did you say to Matt?” she barked, her eyes glowing with the color of her wolf. She was furious and losing her grip on her inner wolf.
“Watch yourself, dear sister. You don’t want my wrath, especially now that the lycan alpha has chosen me. I’m officially of a higher rank than you,” I warned, using this vile situation against her. Daphne was shocked, clutching her chest dramatically.
“How dare you threaten me? I’m your sister!” she yelled.
“Blood means nothing to you if you were able to let my boyfriend of four years ride you while you begged him to make you Luna. Yeah, I saw,” I shot back, I wouldn't let her guilt-trip me after what she did to me. Her breath shuddered, and her lips trembled, looking taken aback. She opened and closed her mouth, unable to formulate a response. We stared each other down until I sidestepped her, and that’s when she spoke.
“Matt challenged Alpha Kennis to a duel. He did it so he wouldn’t take you.”
I froze, my eyes wide. Why would Matt do that? It was such a huge risk. He wasn’t as strong as Alpha Kennis; no one was!I refused to feel bad. It was his choice, not mine. “He’s a fool to do that,” I said.
“You have to stop him, Di, please,” her voice took on a pleading tone.
“Why?”
“Because it’s your fault!”
“I didn’t ask him to do that,” I retorted, " I don't care about what Matt does."
I entered my room. She started banging on my door like a crazy woman, crying and begging me to save her mate. Even though I had implied to my sister that I wouldn’t do anything, I couldn’t just stand by. I couldn’t let Matt die because of me. My conscience wouldn't let me.
Kennis’s POVWhat the hell did I do? I entered the office, still unable to believe what I had confessed to Diara. Every feeling I had was genuine, but I wasn’t supposed to say any of it. Panic set in after the rogue attack, seeing her surrounded by those rogues and thinking she could have died, and now, seeing the look she gave Emrys when they were alone outside at night, paralyzed me.I couldn’t even blame my confession on Alistair; it was entirely me, Kennis. I didn’t want to lose her, not to death or to my friend. I guess I was selfish like that.I remember the first day I saw her walk into the old church, her sweet smile and kind eyes instantly drawing me in. But I was stubborn. I didn’t want her, so I kept my distance. I forced myself to hate her after she arrived, but that didn’t work. Slowly, she carved out a space in my life. For so long, I denied her. I forced my hatred and hurt her because I thought that being
"Alpha Kennis, what is this I’m hearing?" Ella cried, her voice trembling as she scanned the room, as if everyone had betrayed her. Sofia rolled her eyes, and the rest of them looked fed up with her outburst.Kennis stood up and reached for her arm, trying to coax her out of the room, but she screamed and yanked her arm away."How could you do this to me? You lied to me!" Ella's sharp gaze landed on me. "That woman was only supposed to be here to give you an heir, and now you’re playing the perfect family and bringing that stupid kid?!"I growled at her when she spoke about Ana, and she growled back, her eyes glowing with anger."Take Ana from here," Louis, whom I hadn’t noticed until now, said beside me. I grabbed Ana’s hand, but she was still staring at the screaming woman. I led her to her new room, where she changed into her pajamas. I tucked her into bed."Mommy, why was that woman angry?" she asked finally.
Kennis“Thank you, thank you, Alpha!”Hearing the scream, Ana ran back to us. Diara released her grip on me, and I whimpered, well, Alistair did.“Why did you scream, Luna?” the little girl asked, eyeing me.“Because I’m so excited! Alpha said I could be your mommy! That’s if you want me to be,” she quickly explained to Ana, who lit up at the news.“ Forever?""Yes, forever," i answered."I’d love for you to be my mommy!” Ana exclaimed as she hugged her. Diara pulled away and then looked at me with squinted eyes.“If she’s my mommy, does that mean you’re my daddy?”I paused, realizing I hadn’t thought this through. They were both looking at me with nervous anticipation. When I didn’t answer, I felt a gentle kick in my leg, prompting me to nod.“Yeah! Daddy,” Ana said, extending her arms
KennisI was shaking with rage. My mate was exposed to danger; she could have died today had Alistair not sensed her distress sooner. Diara was crying and trembling; the adrenaline had worn off, and she looked pale and weak. I took her to the shower and placed her in the tub filled with oils to help her relax. She didn’t protest. There was blood on her body and in her hair. I sat at the edge of the bath with a sponge in hand, gently cleaning her. I’d never bathed anyone before, but she looked so sad and unable to do it herself. I noticed that she took pleasure in caring for her hair. I loved her hair; it suited her and fell beautifully against her back. As I washed her hair, I massaged her scalp. After I was finished, I helped her change into fresh clothes and took her to bed. I sat at the edge of the bed, watching her. She held Ana tightly, and a foreign emotion took root in my chest. I could have lost her tonight, and if that happened, I'd have begged death to take me, too. I leane
Kennis'We are under attack!' someone screamed through a massive mind-link, alerting the officials. I didn’t move, but she jerked from her seat and sniffed the air."There’s a strange smell," she said, sounding worried. I caught a whiff of rogues; there were many at the border, but a few managed to infiltrate.“Shit.” I grabbed her hand to pull her toward the safety of the bankers, but she tore it from me.“What do we do? Rogues are coming to the pack house; I can smell them.” Their scents weren’t strong enough for natural wolves to detect, but she was a dire wolf with keen senses.“There are bankers for safety.” Before I could finish speaking, a fight broke out between the warriors and the rogues in the compound. Someone sounded the alarm, and members hurried into the hall we were in, so many of them.“Go! I’ll take care of this and make sure
Diara“Yes. You were my mate with alpha dire wolf lineage. A big win for the pack and my pup,” he said casually, and I felt a pain in my chest. Those were the only true reasons he wanted me, me being a dire alpha wolf and him a lycan alpha. Our offspring would be formidable and powerful.I closed my eyes momentarily, forcing myself not to cry. But the truth hurt, and a tear escaped my eye. I quickly wiped it away.Feeling tired and cold, I slowed my pace, making him wait for me. Suddenly, I felt myself being lifted. I gasped and looked up at Kennis as he carried me like a baby.“You're delaying me,” he grumbled.“Rushing to see your mistress?” I teased, and he stiffened. When he didn’t answer, I continued, “By the way, shouldn’t you be with her after what happened on the field?”He ignored me. I wondered how he felt when I beat her up. The last time Nina did it, he was furious
